Yep.  50% of the remaining 50% is 25% of the original contract.

Another 50% of the original 100% would have the guy playing for the other team for free.  Which, as @LGR4GM points out, is not allowed per the CBA.  The CBA also wouldn't allow another 50% of the remaining 25% to be retained in a 3rd trade.

Oh... so if we got Leblanc and wanted to trade him, we could retain 50% also and his salary would be just over $1 million for the other (third) team?  Interesting concept.

Yes, third party team would get VO or Lebanc for 1/4 of their $, which brings way more teams into play. Cap hit would be just over $1M instead of $4M, which only a couple of teams can take. Retaining on two guys is similar to a buy out but you get an asset back.
The league would probably close this loophole after this deal.
