Drew Stafford

I think that trading Bernier was a signal to Stafford that they are expecting him to come through this year. I wonder if he will show a lot more of his potential this year

Man, I sure hope so. I think he will improve even more so this coming season.

I said this last year...

lol

Exactly. I think last season was the "breakout" season for each of Connolly, Stafford and i think Max had to have another year like he did two seasons ago for us to have success, no matter what Vanek, Roy and Pommer did. Each guy failed IMO. And this season, each needs to get back to their good days. I don't know if i would call this the "breakout" season for Stafford, but maybe the "Break or make" season.

Connolly is a bit different because he's a great player when healthy, he's just made out of glass.

That was nice but it was just him busting it down the wing and then it was a tap in... these are the ones that encourage me ...

http://www.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?hlg=20062007,3,115 - first goal of game

http://www.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?hlg=20062007,2,1096 - his second of the game

He has much more skill than Bernier and the first one shows he has the strength to get it done down low also ... Bernier may have been stronger but didn't produce much with it.

The name on the back of his jersey definitely is "POTENTIAL"

I like the way he sticks up for his teammates. Never backs down, remember Neil-Drury? He seems to be the type of player the FO wants, team player, goal scorer, Buffalo-esque. Vanek and him seem to be on the same wavelength most of the time. I hope they line up together this year.

A make-or-break season for a 22/23-year-old with all of 105 NHL games under his belt and in just his third year as a pro? Tough crowd around here.

When I think about Stafford's potential, this GWG comes to mind...

PS This may be the best regular season game I've been to in almost 40 years of following the Sabres!

I turned that game on when it was 4-1 and I was having a beer with a friend while I was visiting Vancouver. Well, I was not happy of course but kept the game on. And then..........the onslaught began. He hates the Leafs as much as I do, so we enjoyed the final 14 minutes quite a lot.

ahhhh the good old days.

It was definitely the best game I was at, made sweeter by the abuse I was able to give back to the Leaf fans in front of us. However, a couple of Bruin games from an earlier time come to mind as the best regular season games I've seen. The 7-3 victory made famous by Schony blasting Cashman through the zamboni doors and the 7-6 comeback game when I believe Mal Davis scored the winner after breaking down the right wing boards while practically running on his skates.
