Philly - Biron - Campbell - Hatcher - Streit

I could have given him more credit here in the past. In my defense, I will chalk it up to his European game. no contact! But he does have a turtleneck ala Zednik!

A turtleneck a la Zednik is no problem in my book. A turtleneck like the Sens wear - Yashin, Alfredsson, Spezza - that seems to be more fashionable than functional? Way too meterosexual, IMO...

Wait, a team more metrosexual than the Sabres? Impossible. I guess they do miss Campbell more than we thought.

Sure he can "freeze a defensemen". What does he do when after the d-man is frozen. He is not a great finisher. He has 70 goals 438 games and is only averaging .55 points a game. That means you are willing to pay $3 million for his 45 points. I would like to have a better return on that investment.

It's time to move on for Connolly. If there is any team willing to pick up his contract the Sabres have to make the deal even if it's for the dreaded future considerations. Right now the salary is far more valuable than the player. That's $3 million that can go towards getting a top four defensemen.

one of the cheapest cost per point

Matty Norstrom. I've been saying we need him for months now. He fills a lot of holes.

At least in newspapers in Dallas, he has said that his family is back home in Sweden and he will be thinking seriously about retiring. But he has alluded to the fact that if he stays, he might stay in Dallas on a series of one year deals. As a Stars fan, I'd like that, but if he wasn't interested in anything but making money, he'd be a great fit in Buffalo. The only problem is that if he does decide to go the free agent route, then he made himself some serious money this April and May. He could be more costly than you think...

Looking at that chart I wouldn't call him one of the "cheapest per point." He looks to be at about the median of the team's finances, since Roy, Pominville, Hecht, Stafford, Mair and Kotalik all make less per point than Timmy.

Besides, missing salary info for 7 players makes it kind of tough to take that chart seriously.

Of the forwards listed(not counting Peters :D ) only Max and Vanek have a higher dollar per point number than the tin man. Not something Connolly would want to use during his next contract negotiation.

To follow up on that, I went to NHLNumbers.com and filled in the missing players' salary info (Bernier, MacArthur, Paille, Gaustad, Pratt, Kalinin.) With the chart complete Connolly is 14th out of 25 players to play in Buffalo this year (based on $$ per points.) Six of the 10 players below Connolly are defensemen, one is Peters and one is Kaleta.

I was hoping someone would do this.

I retract my earlier statement and in its place put"Connolly, you piece of meat get us some points out there you m-f'r or we ship you off to Portland :chris: arg".

Yeah I know it can't happen.....

Back to the thread. I heard that during negotiations with Darcy and Campbell, Biron called to say that Brian was a lazy defenseman and always stuck his tongue out at him during practice. My source, a girlfriend who played golf with him at an event, wanted to sleep with him, but Marty said no.

Campbell and Biron are not close friends. Biron didn't think Campbell took the game seriously when they were teammates in Buffalo.

"Brian is a single guy and likes to have fun," Briere said. "But I think he takes the game seriously. To get to where you are, you need to be. I don't think it's an issue."

Very interesting.

i thought so, too.

as for connolly, i know this is the off-season talking, but damn it if i'm not looking forward to watching the guy play again.

How much lower? Two inches...six inches? :o

I know I shouldn't have done it, but once I laughed at a guy. He was a real nice guy but...

The square root of 12 is just too low a number.

Do we need to get into a girth conversation? Briere vs Biron to stay on thread?
