  1. "S'all good, man!"
  2. 2-1 Calgary. Fun times.
  3. The drip drip drip is awesome but the final nudge felt hollow. Through the course of the season we've seen Kim decide not to accept his offer to join him as a partner, Jimmy lose his money and his fancy new office, and Jimmy find out that his brother had turned his back on him without him every knowing it (and while Jimmy was taking care of him). But Jimmy decides to completely embrace "Slippin' Jimmy" at the exact moment he has a six-figure income and steady work in grasp? It's not like he gave in to temptation after a string of indignities; it was more like he turned his back on success in favor of....nothing. I'm nit-picking. It was a so-so ending to an incredible first season and this is the best new show I've seen in years.
  4. Right there with you. This show completely won me over in its first few episodes and had some episodes that can go toe to toe with Breaking Bad's best: Mike's episode and last week's, especially. Last night's was just OK. I didn't think all the stuff with Jimmy back in Chicago was all that compelling and I even thought his turn to the dark side in the parking lot was a little weak as well. The long bingo freakout scene was more uncomfortable than it was interesting too. I guess last week's blowout led to Jimmy going back to Chicago for a week of re-living his past as a con man and that week-long binge, coupled with his friend's death, made him unable to even try to play it straight anymore. I guess I was hoping for more in terms of what would finally, completely push him over the edge.
  5. Yes, so far. But 5 days left to go. The broader point stands that trying to do this without having everyone on the same page was a bad idea. It might still work out.
  6. Something that occurred to me last night is that it wouldn't just be losing McDavid or Eichel and drafting Strome/Hanifin/Marner instead. It would be 15-20 years of "What if's?" Every time we play those two, every time they make an all-star team, and, worst of all, if they win the Cup at any point in their careers -- there's going to be a reaction in Buffalo and it won't be good. People still talk about the Devils missing out on Mario Lemieux but they managed to neutralize that by winning Stanley Cups of their own in the 90s. Would the Sabres be able to whiff on McDavid and Eichel (after two years of tanking, mind you) and still win the Cup? What happens in the next 5 days is going to change our team and our fanbase for a generation.
  7. Murray's master plan of trying to finish 30th with a head coach who was 0% on board with that plan *and* 0% a part of the franchise's future probably wasn't the greatest. Although I imagine Pegula probably wanted him around since he was a fan favorite from two decades ago.
  8. You've said this before. I don't remember promising anything so you're going to have to show me that post. As far as other times the Sabres have been in "this situation", I think it's pretty safe to say losing in the second half of the year would have been better for the team than winning in the *three years* leading up to last year. There's a reason the phrase "glorious run to 8th/9th place" caught on long before "Tank!" did.
  9. What is your basis for this? What legitimately positive thing have I ever been negative about? Before Tank skepticism, the main thing I did on this board was talk up Thomas Vanek and get into slap fights with nfreeman about how good he was in my view. (Gosh, Aud Club, don't you long for those threads?) And maybe the other thing was following prospects. Neither trait is especially negative. I was pretty negative about Regier and his complete lack of a plan to ever win us a Stanley Cup but that just seems accurate in retrospect -- especially when you think about how horribly this team botched things with Grigorenko. As far as this season, I stand by my gloom. The Sabres have a knack for this. I'm not confident the Coyotes are going to win again, and the Sabres have two games left against teams that might not show up. The funnier part of his signature is that he has a quote about "objective truth" from a guy who got caught fabricating George W. Bush quotes in his Science presentations. Nice role model, bro.
  10. Buffalo Sabres ‏@BuffaloSabres 8m 8 minutes ago Strachan: We battled. That's 20 guys working together. We have a lot of character and Teddy's a great motivator. #CARvsBUF Totes awesome! Can't wait to see where all this "character" and "motivation" takes them!!
  11. It's going to be a long week.
  12. Yeah, but it'll do wonders for team culture. <_<
  13. This is a pretty selective stat. For the month of March, he has 9 points in 13 games: 3 goals and 6 assists. In April, 2 points in 3 games: 1 goal and 1 assist. He's been very good for us from March onward. The day we acquired him, he was compared to Mikko Koivu. For the last five weeks, he's looked like maybe he could be that type of player.
  14. Evander Kane was 4th overall, FWIW. I'm not sure how meaningful the stat is either. A first overall pick is almost always a great player. Picks 2+ depend a lot on the draft year. Ristolainen was 8th overall in a loaded draft.
  15. The fact that both games were as close as they were was unnerving.
  16. If you went back in time 15-20 years and showed a 90s Sabres fan last night's game or, especially, the Blackhawks game without any context, I doubt they'd have any idea that we're a 30th place team. The Sabres aren't playing poorly at all these last few games. They're actually playing pretty well. It took a Toews miracle on Friday and a lucky stick bounce last night to get us to where we are this weekend.
  17. The downside to last night is that the Sabres are now perfectly positioned to blow this in the very last game of the season. Would the gods be that cruel? We've seen Buffalo seasons end with missed field goals, trick play kick-off returns, illegal goals scored in the crease, top defensemen lost to staph infections, goals scored through the side of the net..... I'm bracing for another nasty surprise. We're due. Value added. :)
  18. Beat me to it. I'm OK with starting Reinhart in the AHL if we think that'll help him develop. (My main concern with that is that I think there are more goons in the minors; both Girgensons and Ristolainen were concussed via cheap shots in their first pro seasons in Rochester.) And I'd be happy to have Larsson and Girgensons as my top 2 centers to start next season. They've both looked very capable this season. Reinhart is a rookie and anyone we draft (not ready to pencil in our dream scenario yet) would also be a rookie. Let's ease these guys in and put them in a position to succeed. Another benefit is that if we play Larsson as a no.1 center next season with Kane and Ennis, maybe his PPG stays really high and he becomes a great asset to trade if we want to go that route. Same goes for Grigorenko if we get him playing time next season.
  19. It still feels insanely plausible -- especially when you consider which opponents for the Sabres/Coyotes might show up or mail it in for their final 3 games.
  20. Back to this season, we're down to just two possible outcomes: 1. Sabres finish the tank and finish 30th. 2. Sabres beat incredible odds to finish 29th, resulting in the literally the worst ending of any Buffalo sports season ever.
  21. Still here. Still skeptical. :P
  22. Sabres are making this way too interesting.
  23. He's also 19.
