  1. New from The Struts! I'm a fool for these fellas.
  2. Is this the first time ROR came up in this GDT? I feel partly responsible because, early this morning, I just dropped a lil' note in the Around the NHL thread about STL's record. Are we obliged to do so? Is anyone? You are more than alright, fella. I think there is a lot of truth in what you've extrapolated. I think there's also some truth in the team being in a better mindset (albeit not as strong on the ice, by the numbers) with ROR on another team. I've heard a few stories -- 2 to be precise, actually -- about ROR and his time with the Sabres. Not really stories, even. Just ... characterizations, overviews. I think there's something there. Now. It's very much a fair question of whether the benefits of moving on from that are outweighed by the disadvantages of losing such an effective hockey player. It's a bit like a study I once read (because reasons) about child-bearing women who were eating a good amount of fish with high levels of mercury and maybe it was also PCBs in them. The study's authors went in assuming that the data would come out one way. But it wound up sorta mixed. Apparently because fish is really, really good for you.
  3. "Skipping" is when you don't show for something -- without good cause and generally without prior notice. There's no indication that Eichel skipped practice.
  4. McCabe had a funny/interesting quote on that topic -- about what a complete PIA Skinner is to play against, if you're defending.
  5. Terrible idea in the immediate-term. Long-term, though? Such a move might finally, totally, and completely dispel the pall cast by ROR's mopey miasma. (Sorry, not sorry, @Randall Flagg)
  6. Your takes are good ones. But what the hell is happening here? Over the line? Sheesh. I think you're use of that phrase in this regard is ... over the line. You're right to point out that how you experience a game (or anything, for that matter) is affected in large part by how things are going in your life. I certainly didn't mean to take a shot at someone who might be having a bad time of it personally. If I did so, I apologize @Kruppstahl My point was: That game was objectively good for the home team, by any measure. And it was even more definitively fantastic for fans who have been starved for that sort of thing. If you're a Sabres fan and didn't see it as a good, fun game, and with the caveat immediately above, I'm not just not sure what you were watching. Good contribution. Maybe so. It's perfectly okay for people to disagree on stuff like this. Eeesh. C'mon, man.
  7. God bless you, sir. Good stuff. Also, I still sorta think the team having a better vibe is helping matters. 10 internet points to you. DeLuca .500!! The whole being less than the sum of its parts. That sort of thing seems to follow ROR around a bit, innit? very much worth reading.
  8. Good post. Generally, I agree with ^ this ^ sentiment specifically, but then I always get tripped up on the fact that many men who've been radicalized in the name of Islam are highly educated.
  9. A-freaking-men. I don't know if this aspect of his play was undersold as a prospect, but it is surprising me just the same. He likes to take the body -- and seems to know how to do it with good technique.
  10. Bro. If you think a game where the Sabres play MTL, get 40+ shots, come back from 1-goal deficits three times, and win with a minute to go is boring — it is time for some genuine self-reflection.
  11. Blues are 2-4-3 through 9 games.
  12. Had to catch this game on a combination of radio and phone-stream. We knew that the Sabres were improved. It now looks like they might be good. So exciting.
  13. The United States has had a marked and definite shift away from being a stable democracy. The issue was treated with some seriousness here: https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/is-america-headed-for-a-new-kind-of-civil-war And, really. The fact that we are living in a country where a significant portion of the electorate, possibly a majority, operates in post-factual/a-factual manners -- I'm not sure where else we could be as a nation. (I would note here: I think there are people of various inclinations and persuasions who operate in this way, although I think the largest contingent are the disaffected white voters who support Trump regardless of what he says or does.)
  14. Good reco's - thanks.
  15. I can actually abide the slug logo when it's presented in fun, capricious variations like the one above. My daughters still have their light pink watch caps (is that what they're called?) with a slug on them. They're cute. The caps, I mean. The kids too.
  16. I was gonna say Quoting an entire original post like that in a GDT is what sucks.
  17. I thought MTL was supposed to stink this season? WTF? Don't be too f###king slow tonight, boys. Let's Go, Buffalo!
  18. Truth! Especially when you're toggling tabs, jumping around, mostly doing work, etc.
  19. SO good. If only the player could live up to it.
