I saw a commercial airing during the game yesterday -- with the sound off though -- it looked like a Bills-produced piece, but I don't see it on their site or YouTube channel. It looked like an overview of the team's history, and that insane 90s era fan was featured several times in it -- this guy: Anyone know where there's a link to the commercial?

It's 11, and the reasons are obvious. I remember Eichel talking about numbers, and referencing a certain number being a "good, low number." Maybe he was talking about 9. I loved that way of putting it - a good, low number. And there's really something to that. I have a significant background in soccer, and, in that world, I think about how, days gone by and even sometimes nowadays, numbers were issued based on where you ranked in the pecking order and where you played on the field. Thus, Pele' and his coveted "10." Wearing the 10 in soccah means something. As does wearing 2 or 4, etc. So, it's funny. The "11" would fall outside the footy paradigm (because the keeper is "0" and your last field player forward is 10). I still love 11 -- sufficiently low. And I love its symmetry. And of course I love Bert. Good stuff.

@PASabreFan it's funny how the passage of time can affect how you feel about things. i feel i'm now secure enough in my fandom, or whatever, to conclude that the hockey team under TG was excellent - some of the best years the franchise has ever had - and that most fans' feelings toward ownership (to include LQ) were/are fairly negative (mixed, at best), and that the hockey team under TP has been an unmitigated tire fire - the worst stretch the franchise has ever had, i believe - and that most fans' feelings toward ownership are pretty positive. there are tons of variables that play into all of that. people are weird. also, i really do think that luck, fortune, randomness play a significant role in how good TG's teams were and how bad TP's teams have been. i think that's true for all owners of pro sports teams.

Now reading the piece. It’s a fascinating thought project: which is the better way to run a team, like a business run by someone who doesn’t know or care about the game and who will insist on turning a profit, or as a fan with limitless resources. As said above, I think there was a lot of randomness and good fortune at play when TG’s teams became really good. +++ “I was not a hockey fan, but I was a business fan,” he recalled during his interview with the News. “I ran it like it was a business. I’m stuck on two things: (1) Monica Seles?! (2) It’s better to be lucky than good. Further on 2, the planets really seemed to align for TG-owned teams. That said, TG strikes me as a much sharper dude than TP.

Always disconcerting to hear of the personal leave -- because it usually means bad news in the family (illness, death). IIRC, teams disclose the reason for a leave of absence if it's for a good reason (i.e., a birth)

Re Honka. No idea who the guy is. Quick look at hockey-reference, and I see a guy who has not yet played full NHL seasons (although he is a young d-man), who's had pretty good possession numbers, but nearly 60% o-zone starts.

I wanted to give this a bump and tip of the hat. And, yes, I continue to be fascinated by what Jurgen Klopp has done at Liverpool. He's as much as a guru as anything.

He's lost 15-20 pounds, among other things. Yikes on his insistence that all of his injuries - including ~20 concussions - have been "fixed."

This seems about right. I mean, if you have $5M sitting around and don't have grand designs for it, you can almost certainly generate a steady, significant flow of investment income off it.

I recall now that this was the reason for my Britney WTF face .gif: If the implication of "drunk" was something closer to unconsciousness (blacked out), then my sense is that there are many jurisdictions, including in North America, in which intercourse with such a woman would be a crime.

Overthinking it, or having an over-developed sense of their own competencies, or being greedy as a mofo. Or a combination of those three. Or all three.

Annuities aren't really an investment, fwiw. At least not like a bond or equity. My simpleton understanding is that you basically fork over some of the value of your principal so that the person holding the money and paying the annuity can make bank on the margin. So you give some to get some.
