How is it that we score maybe one lucky goal a season whereas at least 20+ go in on us?
We made Dallas look bad and yet we still lost because of their damn goalie. We should of ran the bastard, play dirty its not like the refs are going to cut you any slack. WTF was both those 5v3 penalties? Felt like the fix was in with that Clifton penalty especially; on the PK how many times have we seen Sabres take blatant crosschecks with no call. Benson got literally dumped twice in the 1sst in front of the net with the puck nowhere near him and they weren't "I'm stronger and taller" falls; they were crosscheck style falls.
This year has been a freaking test in anger management; the Sabres have bad games where you're angry and then you have games like these where they play great and yet lose anyway.

Would you trade Cozens and a protected first? If all the responses are quick yeses, we aren’t offering enough.
Most likely no. But this make me wonder - without looking it up - how far were the Sabres away from being able to draft Jiricek? And what would the cost have been then to move up vs. what we’re kicking around now?

Give them Savoie and this year's lottery protected 1st.
REALLY wanted Jiricek when he came out.
This is probably what it would take. And I would do it too.

With as far as the Bills have gone into their D depth I wonder how that has impacted the kick coverage units. I suppose Bass could kick everything thru the end zone (5 or 6 times? 😀).

Monken firmly believes in half time adjustments.
He’s really good. Gotten Jackson to another level. I’m a bit surprised he hasn’t gotten any interviews in this HC hiring cycle. He’s better than that guy from Detroit, who seems to be talked about a lot.

What’s funny about this is my boss doesn’t even want a phone call. A text is all she needs. That would be an easy text to send.
Cough emoji?

It will help a little that the Bills will be home for both games.

Son of a bitch, I have to work on Monday. I bought tickets, cold weather gear, food for tailgating and so on......
After all your thoughtful preparations for the game, I see a 24-hour flu bug in your future, starting at about 8AM Monday. Just be sure to cough a lot (for added effect) when you make the phone call in.

No sufficient emoji response @Scottysabres. What you are doing is simply fantastic. I hope you and your step-dad have an awesome and memorable day. (Weather aside).

Imperfect though they are, the Bills are among the league’s hottest teams at the moment. You have Josh coming off a 425 total yards game.
And now it appears likely that the weather will turn this game into a randomized toss up. Sorta sucks.
Agree. I would have felt a lot more comfortable if the Bills could run their offence unhindered by the weather and TJ Watt out.

I have a beer league game... hallelujah.
What a coincidence. So do the Sabres and Sens. (Apologies for the gratuitous cheap shot).

Been meaning to post this for over a week now re: Strbak. This is from Tony Gasparini, GM of Strbak's USHL team. Notably, Gasparini was a longtime scout in the LA Kings organization. (From The Athletic).
“His biggest strength is competitiveness and willingness to engage himself in the game physically and defensively. He moves quite well,” Gasparini said. “And I do think there’s a secondary offensive element to his game because he does shoot it so well. He’s a very direct and assertive offensive player. He wants pucks to the net. But the primary of his game is going to be a shutdown, very hard and physical leader type defenseman with some secondary offence.”
@LGR4GM does this fit the description of what you hoped Muel to be?

LFG! Get ‘em before they get more healthy in a week. Finish them. Emphatically.

Recently turned 68. Let’s get moving on that parade thing Bills/Sabres. I’m running out of time!

Bold prediction for next week’s game. McDermott burns his first timeout just before the coin flip to discuss strategy

I think if Robinson is good to go he should be in there. A big body that goes to the net will be welcomed tonight .. 😎
Agree completely. Shesterkin (or however the hell you spell his name) very rarely gets beat by shots he sees cleanly. The Sabres need to be in his grill and get a couple greasy goals. Robinson would certainly help in that regard. Otherwise VO will need to do it. 😀🙄 (I find humor in the absurd).

So @Contempt had it in the right order. The way I originally listed them (helping hint) best to worst.

To the players you whipped. I don't blame Power for anything as he's a young kid and he's not being developed properly so what do you expect? You can't just throw every baby in the pool and expect them to swim. I don't blame Clifton because I have seen him succeed in the right system. We don't have a proper defensive system so he's lost. I don't blame VO because he's always been what he is and the expectation that he'd be something different is kind of silly and lastly I don't blame EJ as he's an old veteran who is past his prime so once again what do you expect?
I could whip on some of the "star" players for their inconsistencies and deficiencies and lack of effort at times but again, what would be the point? Thompson is never going to hit anybody. Skinner is never going to play defense. and so on. At least they won't under this coach/system/philosophy.
For the record, I used the players that seem to take the most heat on this board. And I couldn’t find the +/- for the people on your list. :-). Organizationally, I agree with you tho I would switch Appert and Ellis.

Wrapping things at work up before the holiday weekend so I thought I'd start my first thread.
I realize +/- is a maligned metric as to its usefulness but its simple. So, without looking, rank the following Sabres in +/- best to worst, through last night's game.
The candidates: E Johnson, VO, Clifton, Power.
I'll post the numbers later this evening but go ahead and peek after if you're curious.
Surprising fact: only one of the four are minus on the season to date.

Yea, I can recall it like it was yesterday. Tyrod Taylor playing in a playoff game and sucking giant balls.
Me too. And I remember thinking we had just seen the team's ceiling with TT at QB and Greg Roman as OC - which never was going to be near good enough.

Just great. Rudolf, the leader, is old and slow. Dancer and Prancer are out with lower and upper body injuries, respectively. Donner and Blitzen have been replaced by calves who have never flown around the world. There will be no gifts this year - even though we were told there would be. Maybe in 2025. But starting in ‘26 they will definitely be delivered every year thereafter. Sustainable success.
