Bills have done this several times. Floyd was signed to rush the passer. Joe B in the Athletic has an article on this today. Vet cuts coming. $ 10.2 Mil more come June 1st ( T.White). Don't know the draft pool total needed for contracts but $ can always be moved if there's a desired player.

Mini-camp will give them an idea if the depth chart has actual quality in certain areas. They have the physical bodies now. Can they grasp the O or D ?  I'm sure with the draft picks, that was already determined with the higher selections. All part of the deal marching forward towards September. Not playing a game this week.

BB has alluded to this on more than one occasion. 'We're a long way from September'. I truly believe there will be another vet WR added via trade or FA. And will not be surprised to later learn that's it been lined up for a while (including general terms) just waiting for the cap space to open up. Beane doesn't take a crap without having a plan. We just won't know what that is for a while.

  2. Congrats @inkman. Sounds like a great turn of events. 50% pay bump after 2 years? Not shabby at all. I'll go out on a limb and say your salary wouldn't have increased at that rate had you stayed there for these two years. And yes, get the notice in ASAP.

Good luck and enjoy your new-old job!

  3. Not to prolong this debate but I’ll stand by what I wrote. The Sabres aren’t good enough to get into the playoffs and are not built to be successful there if they did get in. The Leafs are plenty good enough to get in but not built well to succeed once they get there. I say the Sabres are trending towards being like the Leafs because it’s top prospects - Savoie, Kulich, Rosen, Östlund - are not going to change the general makeup of this team. As written originally - KA needs to make a course correction. I think we all agree there. I think maybe KA sees that now. Archie, to your point I agree that the Leafs have a bigger issue in that the distribution of cap dollars is disproportionately allocated to fewer players who spit the bit come playoffs.

I would've liked them to have drafted another WR.  Another shot at the dart board.

However, I trust BB and McD and on paper I like the guys they drafted.

And Ray Davis, the RB from Kentucky they took in the 4th round, presents just an incredible story of overcoming hardship:  https://theathletic.com/5293529/2024/02/29/ray-davis-nfl-draft-kentucky-vanderbilt/

Re:Davis. That’s gut wrenching on so many levels. Hope the kid can have a career because you just know he would helping his siblings before all else.

I have issues with our roster construction, but strongly disagree we are headed in the Leafs direction (setting aside the obvious, which is that we should be so lucky as to have a team that has been as good as the Leafs the past 5-6 years). We are built from the back end out. Our young D and goalies are, potentially, dramatically better than anything the Leafs have had during this stretch. Also, I think many of our top players (Dahlin, Byram, Cozens, Thompson, Tuch, Benson) do have more jam/grit in them than Toronto’s big 4. Our guys just haven’t been provided with the down the line-up toughness that allows the higher in the line-up guys to be a-holes and get away with it.

Big picture, do you see this Sabres team having enough jam/grit to be successful in the playoffs if they got there?

  6. Meant to post this last night and I’m sure many saw it. Between the second and third periods Biz absolutely destroyed Mitch Marner for his play in the game and the series in general. Pointed to his salary and lack of compete. Leaf on Leaf crime. Hate to see it. (No, not really).

  7. Great write-up in the Athletic this morning about the Leafs-Bruins series. Talking about the roster makeups of each team and their respective viability in the regular season vs. the playoffs. KA needs to make a major course correction because the Sabres are showing signs of heading in the direction of the Leafs.

  8. I’ll be interested in seeing what the offense looks like this season. I imagine there are only so many changes that can be made on the fly in-season. Brady will have the whole off-season and training camp to implement his system and really put his stamp on the offense.

The hype on the receiver issue on the roster is reaching ridiculous levels now.

The Bills lost Diggs, who was irrelevant the last 6 to 8 games, including the playoffs where he dropped a Josh Allen in the basket touchdown pass with 8 min left against the Chiefs, and Davis who dropped passes or couldn't get open so often that no one knew he was playing 80% of the time.

The passing game will be fine.

    Georgia C/OL Sedrick Van-Pran Granger

    What you got @LGR4GM

That just can't be a real name.

You replaced Davis with the  rookie  who will likely have 600 yards +

But who is replacing diggs who's going to be the "guy"

May possibly see another vet WR added (FA or trade) in June when Tre's $10M comes off the books.

So ... Beane and his scouting team and coaches, really do know a lot more about football than the fans - including the alleged experts at TBD.

Just wait until the Sabres get good, which could be next year, more TBD'ers will flock to this site and enlighten us all how to play hockey too.  Bank on it.

There's a part of me that hopes that doesn't happen. (The flocking, not the Sabres getting good. Obviously.)

  12. We’ve already entered the part of ‘draft season’ that I absolutely detest. ‘Draft Grades’ or ‘Winners and Losers’ written by the ‘draft experts’. The comparison is made between their evaluations and those of NFL teams. And when they match up the team is an A+ winner. When not, the team screwed up. Forget about the folly of evaluating player picks just hours after the draft. The hubris of these guys is unbelievable. They do not have the resources NFL teams do to gather all the necessary information. Just once I would like to see one of these guys to a self-evaluation using the actual teams’ selections as the measuring stick. ‘Mel Kiper gave himself a D+’.  But that’s as likely as the hair growing back on my head.

Lastly, it’s an inexact science. The hits and misses will become apparent in due time. But I will always favor the opinion of those with the most information in these conditions.

Rant over. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. 😄

I know one thing. I hate the way DeJean pronounces his name.  That is Dijon all day every day.  Regardless, I’m calling him mustard if he’s on the Bills. For my money, they end up with both DeJean and Tha Honky.  Big “process” guys. Also, very high motors and smart. 🤣

There's one thing rarely mentioned about DeJean as a fit for the Bills. McD loves position flexibility in his secondary to disguise coverages. Think Micah Hyde in earlier years where he was a safety playing a M2M coverage role post-snap at times. Certainly not advocating he will be the pick at 33. But it wouldn't shock me.

I'm also guessing/hoping BB will be active tonight. Can't see him going into tomorrow with all those picks in his pocket.

  14. Whenever I watch other teams play I always try to make comparisons to the Sabres. Last night the Bruins played essentially 19 minutes of the third period with a one goal lead. I'm pretty sure they iced the puck only twice.

As much as I despise the Bruins (mostly because of where I live) they seem to very rarely make dumb mistakes. Again .... contrast.

    3 things need to happen:

    1) Ruff gives us some insight into filling out his staff

    2) Adams gives us some insight into his offseason plan to build this roster to make the playoffs next season

    3) Harrington asks a stupid obnoxious question and Lindy lights him up.

    4)  Paul Hamilton asks three questions, thus causing the press conference to run 45 minutes longer than planned.
