We want them to beat us up without Eichel instead of beating us up with Eichel. Something about getting hit with your own shoe hurts more?

âTankâ implies a careful plan to finish at the bottom of the standings in order to acquire high level draft assets. I donât think thatâs what this is. I think itâs more reactive and reflexive. The Pegulas have poured money into this franchise for a decade and have nothing to show for it. (Itâs their own fault, of course, because theyâre addicted to rookie GMs who wonât challenge their authority, but thatâs another matter.) This is just: âWhy spend all that money to finish last and have a roster and fanbase full of ungrateful pouters, when we can spend a fraction of that amount and do no worse?â Theyâre just ripping it down to the studs to conserve assets. Maybe itâs to position the team to sell (or sell a part of it) as you suggest. Maybe itâs just a misguided effort to replicate the culture-building program the Bills went through (nevermind that it wouldâve likely been for naught had they not struck gold with the QB). But what itâs NOT is a purposeful attempt to lose in order to eventually win. I suspect they truly think they might be more competitive next season - because theyâre complete morons. All of them. Giving them the benefit of having a plan is not something they deserve. -

Thatâs all well and good but then donât use your marketing department to lie to the fans. I am fascinated to see what theyâre selling and how. -

It's better than allowing players to dictate to the GM that they need to be moved for peanuts or else become a "distraction."

The Bills had that approach for years and we know how it shook out. Every single time they tried to outsmart the rest of the league it blew up in their faces. -

Tbh girth is more important than size. -
Theyâre probably hoping to replicate what the Bills did, tearing it down to the studs to build âculture first,â then slowly adding pieces who buy into that culture. The problem is that you need to acquire the right pieces and have a plan to evaluate and develop them. You need a quality scouting program and you need to hit on several key acquisitions. Not sure theyâve got the right team for that approach.
