Package deals, I do not believe Botterill is in a bad position here. There is an overwhelming arms race in the Eastern Conference. He will do just fine I suspect.
Penguins already gave their 2018 1st rdr, I don't see them giving 19 and beyond right now given they have armed up already.
Kane and Lehner both 50% retained, Girgensons to Philly
for
St. Louis 1st rdr 2018, Philadelphia 2nd rdr 2018, Arizona 5th rdr 2018, Lehtera, Neuvrith, Read, Sanheim, Ratcliffe
My first thought as well lolPhilly has 2 1st rdrs, they have an LHD and RHD prospect to covet. They have some movable cap as well. Lehner and Kane make sense for them.
Calgary has no 1st or 2nd rd pick this yr, but, they do have Sam Bennett and a couple of D prospects of interest.
I like both as trade partners, and depending on price, would be happy with either, but a slight edge to Calgary due to roster player potential.
Sounds about right. I keep wondering if there is a larger type package in play here. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
And since the Flames were mentioned, go Philly, then go Flames. Those are the 2 I'd like to deal with anyways.
Philly makes so much sense for a Kane "package" trade. At least it does if your a fan looking through the window from the outside, like myself.
All you need do is look at the moves being made in EC so far and it appears as though the arms race in the East is in full swing.
So far it looks like the Devils and Penguins are pushing with a handful of other teams securing front and back end depth.
The Nash, Kane and McDonough shoes have yet to fall.
This is one of the more exciting dead lines I can remember.
The arms race has swung in to 5th gear now.
I can see a package leaving Buffalo for a haul as teams in both conferences start countering the Devils and Penguins moves.
Their play has settled down. They look more like they are playing a support style game where aggressive forecheck and d zone puck battles and control are priorities 1 & 1.
I don't think this is all coaching staff, some, but I believe it's the players who have finally woke up to the fact that they must commit to compete.
Probably tired of being laughed at and screed at as well.
Its either that or Botterill threatened to trade them all to Arizona.....
