Other nuggets I found interesting: Sports Logic stat on Loose pucks recovered in the O-Zone - Vic finished #18 on Sabres last year. This meets the eye test where he seems timid and constantly losing puck battles - if ever engaged in the first place. Skinner was 4th last year, which somewhat confirms Marty's posture that Skinner is not just a goal scorer. Second on Sabres in Shooting percent - over 17%. Marty believes a good return for Vic is a second round pick, but most likely only yields a third. Only positive (+/-) player he played with all season was Dylan Cozens (validated on Natural Stat Trick). Note that Vic's time with Mitts was awful. I remember some of those games where both were stapled to the bench in third period. I wouldn't want to risk him playing 2nd line minutes with Cozens unless there was an absolute beast on the left. JJP is not there, yet. Agree with most he will settle into the third line somewhere until Quinn is back.

The craziest part of the Ricky Williams deal is that if he was just very good, not game changer great like Ditka thought, the trade wouldn’t have been all-time bad. Williams was an interesting cat, and was never motivated or aspired to be elite. In hindsight, if the Saints didn’t finish 3-13 and the next years first turned into #3 overall (LaVar Arrington) it would have just seen as swing and miss trade. And like the Williams deal, this trade will depend on what Jeannot becomes in Tampa. If he is Hagel 2.0 or Tom Wilson for the Caps then it’s a win. Agreed he was a flop down the stretch and in the playoffs, and the assets given up to attain look bad, but Tampa is Cap strapped and this deal keeps Jeannot hungry for a real contract when the cap goes up. The Sabres signed Victor, as a 40 point player with significant downside in comparison to Jeannot on two separate occasions to contracts of $3m and $4.5m. So $2.6m doesn’t seem bad at all for a player seemingly built for the playoffs.

Did you have LaNova at the arena? I was in Buffalo a few weeks ago, and brought my son to LaNova (west side location). We had a variety of slices for lunch. Three cheese, sweet peppers and Chicken. Pepperoni with sesame seed crust. It definitely did not disappoint. His favorite of the trip. That was my go to when I lived on Elmwood some 30+ years ago. That and Mister Pizza. I had a Mister in 2022 and not as good as I recall. My parents live in Kenmore so they are loyal to Bob John’s La Hacienda on Hertel. There are only 3 active because teams are locking up young D after their EL contract ends (Fox, McAvoy, Makar). All of those contracts would be larger if they bridged. Go back ten years and see there are many, many examples. Chara, Lidstrom, Boyle, Campbell, Jovanosky, Subban, Suter, Weber, Pronger to name a few. Some of these are 15-17% And dozens more where it’s 10.5%of the cap. In 4 years (my scenario) Power will be full prime, and a top 5 D in the league, which would warrant $12m. The $100m is realistic. After the $1B from Covid loss is finalized this year, they are talking of it jumping to $92m by 2025. So $100m is probable in 2027 if this conservative estimate for 2025 manifests. your dismissal of this happens at 1% is wrong. The bold, it’s our only leverage. If he signs a 3 year bridge like Dahlin did, based as some insiders cap estimates of ~$100m+ in 2027, a 12% of the cap total would yield at least $12m for his next deal. I advocate $8m *8 after July 1st.

FWIW, my parents stay with us (wife and two boys) from December 15th through Jan 15-30th each year to escape the harsh Buffalo winters. Then back to Buffalo for two weeks, and a month in Florida rental. It can be stressful but I recognize that our distance prevents a lot of frequency to our visits so they are usually longer. I’ll bring one of the boys back this summer and work two weeks (remote) and add a few days of PTO knowing I won’t see them until Christmas. My wife loves the visits bc they add value by shopping, cooking and helping me with my oldest who is disabled. Sounds like your situation might be a little different. Three months can be a lot, so I would recommend you try one month. See if it works for all parties. Maybe he could AB&B another month. If he is a POS (inference only) and is a hindrance not a help, it would manifest within 30 days. Your wife will see it and probably think twice about the following year.

I get it, Petersen rejected another leadership team, but Terry was the common denominator, and Adams as we know is extremely loyal to TPegs. Plus, Cal is just not good. The Kings D wasn’t bad this year and Petersen had a really awful stretch of games. And the year prior was pretty bad too. Hart could improve the team. It’s more probable than not Petersen wouldn’t.

Petersen exemplifies “not wanting to be here”. He literally did that in 2017 by not signing. Zero chance.

The fact he is playing in a Stanley Cup final game speaks volumes about the Florida defensive depth, or lack thereof. If the Sabres can secure a true #4 RD to play with Power, and Joki slides down and Stillman is a #7, why would our defense not be playoff caliber?
