This statement you won't be able to prove for years.

Defense Next Year - Could we see major change?
MakeSabresGrr8Again replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Seems like he's getting the old Bogo syndrome. -
Never said it wasn't. I was only correcting a post. But seeing that you mentioned it....what did we win with ROR?
-
Haven't even.....at the time of the trade the career numbers on Berg/ Sobotka/ TT were: Berglund ...averaged 19g/38pts a season Sobotka....averaged 8g/27pts TT..............averaged 6g/18pts (small sample projected over 82g) So combined....33g/83pts is more than ROR production. Then throw in a 1st and 2nd rd picks. The 3 of them "should have" been able to more than match ROR. The fact that they haven't done so is why everyone knew it was a bad trade before it happened. FO% is another trait of ROR that needed to be address in the trade....with the Sabres Bergy was over 58% and Sobotka is over 52%(mostly in the left dot..LOL). These are very respectable numbers and close to ROR (Sobotka performing under his career average of about 55%). I'm sure there are other stats that can prove this to be a bad deal....but I and many others that still aren't into advanced stats could easily see a plus at the time of the trade. Pierre LeBrun ✔@PierreVLeBrun 1st 2019. 2nd 2021. Tage Thompson. Sobotka. Berglund. That is a major return for the Sabres. I get why the Blues did it, they add ROR and Bozak today and they're a better team. But given the midnight pressure to deal ROR, impressive by Jason Botterill 1,744 7:51 PM - Jul 1, 2018 brock @Brock_Seguin A late 1st. Likely a late 2nd. Two salary dumps and a decent prospect for O’Reilly. Good deal for both teams imo. 2 7:52 PM - Jul 1, 2018 Just a couple tweets from the first article I looked up about the trade.

ROR contract.....$7.5M x 5yrs = $37.5M Berglund/ Sobotka/ Thompson = approx $24.5M, +1st rd pick, +2nd rd pick. we gave up ROR and his $37.5M contract and took on (3) contracts worth $24.5M , a 1st, and a 2nd.. If ROR stayed here and we don't make the trade it would cost us $37.5M.
-
That's not how it would work if he kept ROR. It would be $7,5M/yr that ROR was on the team. 5 years at 7.5M = $37.5M.

Looks flawed and grasping for something not there, IMO.

I agree, there just isn't too much to be excited about if we end up in the 8-13 range. Looks like you either have to hope that someone falls enough or you might have to over-draft a player. My thought is that trading the pick might be a better option this draft. Maybe we can work out a deal with Anaheim....they get to move up and we get another player from them, either a roster player or prospect such as Benoit Olivier Groulx.
-
It's funny that when I look at the drafted and think about how I felt when they were drafted, I feel like everyone of JBotts picks has at least a chance of making the team. Never really felt that good about Murray picks outside of a few. I think this years draft (1st rd especially) might change that a bit. I don't think we'll fall far enough to get what we want/need. Where we likely fall to the mocks and rankings have a lot of LHD and small C/LW. Might be able to get a Newhook or Turcotte. I'm thinking that we could sell off that highest pick (depending on who's available) and maybe get someone decent to help immediately next year and maybe pick up some extra picks.
-
You pretty much sunned up what I was gonna say a couple hours ago but I got pulled away for awhile. I might just add that Murray lacked in another area.....how would that locker room of a sh***y team been able to deal with Pu in their stall?

The playoffs haven't started yet ....what will he say if they miss out on them? They have lost 3 of their last 4 games and are only in by a couple points right now. -
I was just curious because the post you responded to was all about the Senators. Your response confused me as to what it had to do with the Sabres. Wasn't sure if it was sarcasm or maybe you didn't realize it was about the Sens or whatever. Just wanted to clarify. The revolving door has got to stop at some point hopefully. I like the idea of building the team to mimic the Preds and other successful teams. It will take some time though.

Definition of "new member".....anyone with less than 40,000 posts to their credit. And with comments like this you wonder why???? I could find a crap load of negativity from the "old guard" on these boards, but please be my guest and blame the "new guys". What a joke. You guys chase away the new guys just because they don't agree with you or stand up for what they believe in. Not in the "click" your not welcome or at least not made to feel that way. Where's jame when you need him!!! -

Most people say two things about the coaching..... 1. HCPH is too inexperienced 2. We need a "players" coach and NOT a teacher. Then you post this. Wow do you live dangerously. -

I agree but the best part is that they're not so talented that it can't still be up-graded if need be. Right now I would say Dahlin is the only untouchable and that's due to his potential upside. Over the last couple weeks haven't we all been talking about the trade deadline and possible trades involving Risto, Scandy, McCabe and Bogo? Montour would be likely staying. If the right deal and player comes available I would expect Botts to still make the move. With that said, I'd be happy if we started next season with this group. It sets the bar for developing our youngsters on D at a level that they have to be pretty good to supplant a roster player but not a level that makes them think they'll never break the line-up. -
How bad is Tage? Should he be in Rochester?
MakeSabresGrr8Again replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I think he meant inversion table. -
No but he was caught out of position and couldn't get there in time...LOL

You can "teach" in many ways and I think Nolan was great at it. He taught through wisdom and life experiences instead of X's and O's.

You also mentioned the talent he had to work with.....did you look at Team Canada roster? pretty impressive. You also have some good points. I disagree with a young team not needing a teacher and feel that's exactly what a young team needs. However, that could be on the assistants and not the HC. I'm sure that all would depend on the individuals involved and how they respond to each aspect.
