NHL trade & FA rumors (Sabres & Non-Sabres)
PerreaultForever replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
This is a very logical argument, but I still don't understand it. I mean really, how many rehabs do you give a guy like that? I thought LA was gambling when they got him (a gamble they lost) and now Washington is willing to go again? Crazy. -
Jeff Skinner rumors, trade and buyout speculation swirling

So it's not a quote? You really can't expect me to pay enough attention to notice satire during the off season do you? If you do, you'll be disappointed. -

This is a super odd sentence. I'd be okay with it if he'd said "he epitomizes what we want it to mean to be a Buffalo Sabre" but the idea that there's already a work ethic in place and that being a Buffalo Sabre has any meaning at all is questionable at best. -
DeBrusk is definitely not what we need. While at times he is elite, he's a streaky player who goes cold for long stretches and kind of pouts and quits at times. This is why I think the Bruins have kept their offer on the lower side and it's a red flag. Not a guy I'd spend big bucks on and it'll take big bucks to get him.

Flyers fans are getting very excited.

In the fall no, before that yes. A lot. There is enough parity in the league that I think a number of GMs think this is a good time to make a push/surge and get in the playoffs for the teams that were on the outside looking in or to get over the peak for the top teams that fell short. Some GMs under pressure but mostly just thinking it could be them. I think they saw how Vancouver leaped forward last year and really think this could be us. That might be bad for Buffalo if one or more of them get that right and Adams will have competition for assets. This is why I think we will have to overpay if we are truly serious about making a leap. I think a number of trades might be waiting for draft day itself. There might be a framework in place but teams who want any of those high first round picks might have specific players in mind and if the guy goes early trade might die or move to version 2. For example, there's 2 strong Ullmark versions currently ongoing. One with Ottawa that likely involves Chychrun but it seems an extension is involved in that. On the other hand Detroit wants Ullmark but without an extension so presumably with a smaller return for Boston but Yzerman looks like he wants to make a try for playoffs now while his younger goalie develops. Point being that there's lots of talking going on but one thing hinges on another thing and really who knows what finally happens at this point. Honestly, I think the salary cap (even with the Vegas style cheating) has finally given the league what it hoped for and there is enough parity to make things very interesting. In that regard, best thing I heard this week is Leaf management watching Edmonton is starting to think maybe they should stay the course and stick with the big 4. Just add grit pieces around them. That made my day.

idk I might be living in a delusion of hope but it feels different to me this time. We shall know soon if I am fully deluded or not.

Nope. Not in the slightest. If he did, that would mean he cares about winning and I just don't think he does. He'd waive his no move clause. He'd sweat after games. You know what I mean? Just don't see it. I see him as a guy who is fine to sit on the bench as long as you pay him. Would he love a buy out so he can then leave? Sure. Best of both worlds. Good for him. But also good for the team. -
2024 Stanley Cup Final - Edmonton vs Florida
PerreaultForever replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
I don't really care who wins but I'd prefer Florida because: 1. I don't want to hear about McDavid all next season. 2. I do not want to hear about "the genius of Ken Holland." 3. Corey Perry does not deserve another cup to end his career. 4. Evander Kane does not deserve a cup, period. 5. I don't really care one way or the other about Okposo getting one (or Montour for that matter), it would be slightly annoying for Reinhart to win after Eichel, but ERod I'd be happy for. 6. Lastly, it's a copycat league and I'd just like to see more Florida next year than Edmonton style wise. That's a personal preference obviously. But really whatever. After Monday there's only one winner and it's on to what we do for next season and I sure hope Adams does something. -
I imagine most of you have already seen this, but I thought I'd post it for the few that haven't because he says all the right things and it gives me hope.

The difference this time is Ruff.

Yup. I suspect once July 1 hits we won't get any more trades until the fall. The big deals will happen before those no move clauses kick in and before teams turn to free agency. Then deals will be re-priced after some free agents go and needs/wants are left over.

Can't see LA trading Danault, especially after ditching PLD. Could be Monahan. Heard that one before. Toffoli will be an in demand player for plan B when teams don't sign guys like Guentzel. His name gets mentioned all over.

2024 Stanley Cup Final - Edmonton vs Florida
PerreaultForever replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
Getting it out quickly and up ice is indeed a strategy, but you have to balance that with having some degree of control around your own net. That's the area we really lack right now, as well as losing puck battles, as you indicated in the second sentence. -
The Thompson one was strange wasn't it? I guess there's a few places he really doesn't want to go 😉

Point total won't matter as much as what happens relative to the rest of the division. Winning on home ice has to become a thing, we need to get some loser points instead of losing in regulation and we win to win season series with Detroit, Ottawa, Boston, Toronto, Tampa, etc. -

and this is where I get to do one of my favorite things and critique Reinhart 🙂 He is their PP scorer around the net and he is not getting it done like he did in the regular season. Huge drop off in Florida scoring from him and Tkachuk. ERod should not be their top scorer in this round and yet I think he still is. -

2024 Stanley Cup Final - Edmonton vs Florida

I don't think Paul Coffey is getting enough credit. The Edmonton D has managed to adapt fairly well to the Florida forecheck and they are getting the puck out fast. They are the first team to manage that in this playoffs and it's made all the difference. I have to figure Coffey has a hand in that as an assistant. -

Ya, at this point maybe you can say too many Sabres on one team and they look like they are headed for an unbelievable choke. Hard to believe but there it is. I figure his performance in this final has knocked a million off Reinhart's deal. Anything can happen in a game 7 but they look cooked. -
OT- Teams re-branding without relocating

Thrashers was actually a good name though. Somebody should use that one again. Pelicans is the one that makes me laugh. That's almost as bad as The Mighty Ducks was when Disney owned them. -

BUT, to be fair................ we do love maple syrup and we do say eh. I mean how do you spell Canada? It's C-eh N-eh D-eh. In the Ottawa valley it's not eh, it's eh-f#ck. I kid you not. Go there and you'll hear the local add eh-f#ck to the end of any sentence. Like "boy it's cold today eh-f#ck". So, yes, but Shorsey is more accurate than you think as well. -
This was amusing. Who in Buffalo will open up their house? https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/michael-buble-makes-hilarious-offer-canucks-guentzel?utm_source=Daily+Hive+-+Vancouver&utm_campaign=418727bd71-daily_buzz_vancouver_COPY_02&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-cc264ed5f5-[LIST_EMAIL_ID] Note the rumored price for Guentzel though. That's a crazy number imo. I mean he's good, but he's not that good or else we'd be watching Carolina in the cup right now instead of Florida.

"deluded" no, "naive" maybe. I do think you have to have played hockey to truly understand locker room dynamics and team culture. Watching Shorsey isn't entirely accurate (although it has it's moments). -

Some of those "casual fans" and others who don't understand the game, some kids, people who enjoy the comedy videos, they might wonder and raise an eyebrow but the minute the team starts winning and is good everybody will agree (reluctantly or willingly) that they guess there was more to it than we know and Skinner was a problem. Of course if Ruff fails and the team loses, well then it'll be added to the Sabres incompetency list. I think we will find out what Colorado really thinks of him when they offer him his contract.
