  1. idk what their plan is but not signing Reinhart is their easiest cap fix as he's the most expensive. They sign Reinhart they probably have to let several others go.
  2. If this is true it's f'n ridiculous. You're one day before the draft and a few days from free agency and you haven't made a final decision on something this big? So the "plan" is no plan.
  3. That's part of it. They just need to look at the teams at the top and the cup winners to figure it out though. You'd think.
  4. Absolutely, much as I wanted Rick Dudley hired years and years ago (and again later) but Pegula doesn't want a guy in that job. He sits in on the meetings himself instead. Terry's our Czar.
  5. Absolutely, but it's what they do. I didn't say I agree with it, I just don't think it means there's an impending trade brewing. There might be, but they might have just thought, hey another pick cool as they have a number of forwards ranked up to 15 that they like. San Jose wanted to move up for a D man, that's obvious. Adams just likes shiny new prospects.
  6. I think all it means is San Jose definitely wants a D man in the draft and so they wanted to move up and Buffalo didn't want a D man so they should still get their forward choice(s) a few spots back and snag another pick. Means nothing more. Nothing less.
  7. and he's smart enough to get out at the moment of reckoning, avoid all the pending cap issues and before Draisaitl decides to "explore his options".
  8. If McGroarty would want to play here I'd give them a 2nd and 3rd in a heartbeat. Trouba is interesting. I'd say yes. True, he's slipping and slowing and not what he was so he's pricey, but he is a contrast to what we have, he's a leader, and he strikes fear into a lot of players about cutting into the middle. Adding him and then trading Jokiharju would give us a VERY good D.
  9. So no player for the pick, just more picks. Whatever. Now it makes flipping current prospects for a player even more desirable but I have my doubts it'll happen. Doesn't change my first round pick. Still Liam Greentree.
  10. Well, if you could add a McDavid, I'd also think you could add a new goalie too.
  11. I honestly think it's too many years of sucking and all the fans here have to talk about is drafts and future prospects. Some of the younger people here have never even seen a winning Sabres team. Anyone under 30 was a teenager at most the last time they were in the playoffs. With that mindset they are very focused on winning the trade and other statistical possibilities and probabilities. Every year at the deadline I laugh as fans here go "oh that was an overpay" and so forth for other team's deals and then I go over to the Bruins board and they complain "Sweeney didn't do enough. he could have moved his first rounder from 2030......." etc. (exaggerating slightly here for the effect). It's just a mindset difference about winning now or not. A 2C would be far preferable I agree, but a 3C is a bare minimum. If it's Krebs kiss another year goodbye.
  12. Bruins are one of those teams but I do not see how they make it happen.
  13. Giving up "too much" is meaningless for the present if it's picks and prospects. Pretty simple logic really. If you gain NHL players on your roster and gave up nothing from your roster you got better. Maybe years from now you say oh that was a bad trade if prospect so and so does well somewhere, but if it made us a playoff team now SFW? We can start worrying about prospects and the "future" again AFTER we are good.
  14. I personally don't care if he gets fleeced in every trade if the trade makes us better.
  15. Levi seemed obvious to me and I went Benson because he hasn't disappointed me yet. (Peterka fits that as well for the most part)
  16. No they're not though. We aren't adding pieces, we're just shuffling so far. Mitts out creates a gaping hole at 3C. Until Adams fills that hole adequately there's no reason to be excited about Byram in Mitts out. We had Montour. They decided they had no use for him. Byram is just Montour lite. There's no addition so far. At the moment, we are not a better team on paper than the team that started last year's season. We are in fact worse. So there's no moves improving the team so far. Except for the coach. I deal in the realities of what's actually happening not in the maybes.
  17. "may" The only May that will make us better is a new Brad May.
  18. 48 hours after the cup is awarded and it ends with free agency starting.
  19. I will keep this simple. Which of these moves if any made the team better? Maybe hiring the new coach. That's it. I wouldn't call that doing much compared to others but the final assessment comes after free agency, or at least after all the good free agents are gone.
  20. Don't forget Ottawa getting Ullmark. Now there's questions on Ottawa's D being part of why Korpisalo was so bad and Ullmark without Boston's D might be worse, but he will be playing for a final contract and goaltending was their biggest weakness. Add New Jersey if you're thinking wildcard. A lot hinges on what happens over the next week. Staying the course won't get it done, even with the new coach.
  21. The problem really is the Con Smythe is for best player in the entire playoffs, not just the final. It's hard to measure what Barkov or Bobrovsky did to Boston against what McDavid did to LA or Vancouver so ultimately it almost always comes down to a big goal scorer or a goalie who stole the series. Florida didn't have a point getter that was comparable so McDavid gets his name on the whatever trophy.
  22. Hold on hold on, what's this I hear about us having a system last year? This is the first I'm hearing of it.
  23. Ullmark didn't let Boston trade him at the deadline. He adds even more teams to that list on July 1. Ottawa's worst case is Korpisalo puts up better numbers than Ullmark next year, and they gave up a gritty 4th liner and another draft pick for yet another guy who walks on them at the end of his contract. I think this move is their desperate attempt to appease Brady Tkachuk.
  24. omg this is a joke right? Is Sabres history that forgotten that you don't even know about winning the spin of the wheel?
  25. That seems super weird if true. I believe that as much as I believe he interviewed double digits worth of coaches.
