I did. See that thread. Bylsma wasn't as proven as the guys I'm thinking about but we all know he was a second choice and although his hockey was boring, I think he was better than everyone we've had since. Don't think he was wrong, but the roster was pretty weak back then.

Get to know Rikard Gronborg - like it or not
PerreaultForever replied to MODO Hockey's topic in The Aud Club
Well I read it and watched it and I appreciate your effort, but I'm not convinced. There's still too many Ralph similarities in the sales pitch imo and he's simply not proven in the NHL. I want a sure thing, a coach I can be sure knows how to win in the NHL so that if they still lose it's all on the players and we don't go through this yet again in a few years while contemplating what the disconnect between Dahlin and the Sabres is.................. As for Granato with him that'll never work. Cannot imagine Granato being okay with being an assistant to a new HC that has similarities to himself after being the interim. I'm sure the man has too much pride for that. Recipe for dysfunction imo. -
It's possible, but I'm just losing my patience with this team. I want a guy I know for sure can win in the NHL not a guy who maybe can win in the NHL. I want a situation where I can check things off the list so we can move on to fix other things. Like the RK thing, too many people just think all we need is a new coach and it's all fixed. I want a situation where we know for sure it's not the coach and then everyone will know these players are a bunch of crap once and for all (especially if we don't trade the "core"). So 1. get an established good coach and implement the proven system 2. Get a goalie 3. Either start winning there, or start getting different players. In that order. My mind's pretty much made up on some of these players, but with a good coach I'd be willing to give them a final chance. If Rikard doesn't win, in 2 years we're right back where we were. Or rather you will be, I'll be on a Kraken site.

Money and term (and maybe a little control over personnel) and anybody's interested. Those guys love building something from nothing, but you need to give them a little freedom and security. Pegulas won't be willing to make that sort of commitment so its a moot point but I would if it was my team.

So what I think you're saying is a guy with MODO in his user name has a pro Swedish slant, what a shock 🙂 You might be right about him, but idk if I want to sit through another season of a coach with his own learning curve. I don't think Euro hockey will work in the playoffs, or even in the second half of the regular season. It's a failed idea imo. Gallant, on the other hand, knows how to get the most out of his players and he can win in this league.
-
Well this is where we fundamentally disagree and that won't change. To me Torts hockey is winning hockey. he gets more out of less. Not many of our players have shown me they have what it takes so I'm ready to move on from almost all of them. Others have alluded to this thought, but if we don't fundamentally change and we hire some untried swedish college whoever I think I'm well and truly done. If I want Euro hockey I can watch the IIHF..............where a guy named Gallant has once again gotten a bunch of nobodies to play way over their individual abilities, and yet he's not already hired by us, go figure.

Should the Sabres move on Jim Rutherford?
PerreaultForever replied to PASabreFan's topic in The Aud Club
I think we need a guy in this role. Rutherford wouldn't have been my first choice but I do think we'd be better off with a veteran experienced hockey guy in a role like that and all the clout that goes with it (which also means the owners stepping away and we know that won't happen). -
Well yes, sadly, it is still possible to get worse. It seems like they are looking for a coach to fit the players rather than bringing in a new idea and building around that. It is doubling down on what is already proven to be a failed idea.
-
I'm really not liking the direction this seems to be heading................
-
I think it's only 2. But yes, he is fully formed now so to speak. Dahlin can still get better, but at this point I'd say it's unlikely he turns out to be more complete than McAvoy. Better offensively possibly, but his D game has a long way to go and McAvoy is strong too. Much better all around.
-
I understand that, but our 2nd is almost a 1st so it's possible. We get it we get it, you love him and would draft him. Okay, I think I got it.
-
Also a team that if I'm not mistaken gives up the most or near the most shots on their own goal.
-
personally hoping L'Heureux falls to round 2 but I think he will be gone. Maybe trade a 2 and a 3 to grab a 1 and take him. Or to put it differently, add some grit and feistiness. Turn this team's character around.
-
Well we play solid D and win 1-0. We will score. There are FAs out there. There are people we trade for. A solid D will free up our existing forwards more. It changes the way you play the game and the type of games you have. thee are a bunch of guys in the draft that MIGHT become good NHL scorers, but there is nobody imo that will instantly turn your offense around.
-
I've wanted Power all along so I personally wouldn't, but if the Sabres in their infinite wisdom do not plan to draft Power they certainly should consider it.
-
Don't need a source to figure out this one. Ah twitter, what a wonderful creation................... I saw another tweet said something like "Sabres draft Power, go Owen-82 on the season." Sabres shade, but I did have to laugh.
-
McAvoy sure has become the complete package hasn't he? That guy is dominant. Oh man, that draft still bugs me so bad. He was the guy I wanted. Bruins definitely have their star D man that they always seem to have.
-
If you're watching the playoffs at all, you'll notice how good the D units are for the main contenders. If we draft him our young D could become one of the best in the league, and D depth is also very necessary in this league.
-
The trick is can we develop him properly and patiently enough to become what he should be. There will be a push to bring him in too quickly, before he has developed the skills to handle those things you mention above. If we are patient and develop him properly, the left side of our D could be one of the best in the league.

phht! Red Kelly Red Story...........it's a hockey name with a punctuation point. Hockey don't need no snowflake wokeness thank you very much.
-
The marketing is built right in isn't it? Power play. Power to the people. The Power's out (hopefully not often). Power's back on.........and on and on it can go. The only hockey player name I like better in this draft is Red Savage. That one's too good to believe.
-
No it wasn't a penalty. That's my point.
-
Disagree but it doesn't speak to favouritism either way.
-
You want me to give an example of something I'm saying isn't there? sure.
