This is likely coming anyway. Best case scenario they have a horrible start to the season and realize this has to happen. They likely get it wrong again but this path is not viable. They will never win like this. I'm already looking around to see who might be fun to watch this year. I like hockey too much to give up on it because of the Sabres. I'm just going to watch other teams that might provide entertainment.

I'm not worried about Benson but the problem is there's overlap in the waves of futility so each time, the next wave wants out and next up will be Dahlin. Peterka kind of jumped the gun early on the usual pattern.

No I've got Chicago, San Jose and Pittsburgh below them in terms of the standings. Anaheim and Seattle might drop just below them to put them around 6 but that's about it. There's a few other teams that might deconstruct or crash and burn but I'd expect Sabres to be near bottom, around 4-6 from the lowest point total. Lottery wins could change that list a little like this year. Most everybody around us got better (even if only a little). Sabres on the other hand are not better. Likely worse.

Excuses and apologies. Been hearing this sort of crap for years. Never pans out. Kulich is young but we're rushing him. Could be a drop off or a jump forward. Impossible to know which way it goes. Placing him in as top line center would be continued ridiculousness. Quinn was not hurt last year. He just sucked.

Who's ranked 4th overall in next year's draft? Cause that's who we are getting (unless we win the lottery) barring any still to come radical changes that are positive.

Sure but you can't really go around tossing money at guys who don't earn it either or you get into big trouble without achieving anything. Quinn is overpaid for what he's done. Trust me, I'd rather they spent to the cap.

I couldn't decide where to put this comment and didn't feel like making a new thread so here it is. I've been watching a number of GM press conferences today talking about their day and what they did and there was one commonality in all of them. Every single one of them (especially Sweeney who stressed it as vital) said they wanted to make sure they created an environment where the young kids had to EARN their spots on the roster and not be gifted them. They all said this was essential for their culture and growth. Meanwhile Kevyn creates holes so players won't be "blocked". 15 years. Go figure. As for what he said to Pegula? "Terry I will do whatever you want. I'm your puppet". and Terry makes ALL the big and final decisions. He is the de facto GM.

So this is the one good and reasonable thing they've done so far. No complaints. After the Quinn overpay I expected this to be an overpay as well but it actually seems just about right.

Don't think Ehlers would make a difference. Barring a season of unexpected major injuries (which can happen) I can't see anybody beating Florida as is.

Most definitely true. I'm a little confused with what Boston is doing (other than signing Jeannot to be Hagens bodyguard) but they aren't sitting pat that's for sure. Detroit and Montreal definitely better.

I have come to the firm belief this wrong. Terry is in fact the actual GM. Adams is merely his puppet who handles the paperwork, makes the calls, does whatever he's told. Terry pulls all the strings and that is why he didn't fire Adams. Good puppets are hard to find.

So to recap so far, Florida will win the cup again, probably beating L.A. in the final since they signed Corey Perry.

I saw him in these playoffs with Abbotsford and he was the main reason they won the Cup. I think he has an NHL future. I'd have preferred Vladar to Lyon but I'm okay with the signing. At least they didn't just roll with UPL Levi.

That's all they do. Hope kids become something great. Other teams go with proven veterans, but the Sabres know better.

Well I disagree with that but we may never know. imo Dahlin, as good as he is, caves under a heavy forecheck and Byram is just too soft.

Yes I agree and it's just a 1-2 year stop gap for Levi to be developed properly. Personally I'd see if I could get Silovs away from Vancouver (assuming they are going Demko) and make Levi and Silovs compete and if they are both good later ditch UPL. I saw some Abbotsford Canucks and Silovs was really good. Adams would likely see this as blocking Levi. Just get a goalie.

So your bottom pair is Samuelsson Timmons and your 7th is Bryson? That'll make them one injury away from total collapse on D.

You don't think Florida will win the division this year? Toronto should regular season slip back without Marner. Might be a better playoff team in the end but regular season his loss will mean points int he standings.

Free agents disappearing by the minute. There's not going to be much left except a Boeser/Ehlers bidding war tomorrow. I doubt the Sabres do much of anything.

Okay sure, except we didn't win but whatever. So what's your Sabres D for next season? 7 or 8 D. What you got that will "win"?
