  1. Well this is interesting. Kaprizov apparently can't get back into the U.S. because he has no work visa (and I would surmise is afraid to go through Russian government channels perhaps due to his possible fake military service). Crazy stuff. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/report-wild-star-kaprizov-twice-denied-entry-into-the-u-s-has-returned-to-russia/
  2. He's been my dream signing since we first started talking about free agency but I'm not going to give any of these rumours credence as we were linked to Husso. Agents could just be "linking" us to get the bidding up.
  3. My conclusion is based on the rumour of being "linked" to him. Detroit isn't exactly a top team right now either. Arguably better than us with this goaltending addition but not by a lot. Husso signed a 3 deal with them so he's not exactly signed up with a cup contender so I can't see how he'd feel we were any different/worse, especially if we offered him 5 or 6 rather than his 4.7
  4. I want to believe he will still add a good goalie but the realistic pessimist in me thinks it'll be somebody like Rittich at best, and maybe even just Tokarski.
  5. Exactly, I mean we were "linked" to him. That makes me think Yzerman simply made a better offer than KA OR that KA was just going to wait until free agency and Yzerman read about him being "linked" and swooped in with the 3rd rounder and quick offer. KA caught napping.
  6. not dropping them. Maybe guys that can drop them if they need to, but that's not the league any more. I mean guys that hit people and seek out contact rather than avoiding it. Guys who are more likely to "accidentally" bump the goalie than get pushed out to the perimeter. I know some of these guys are not shy of contact and they keep coming , but it remains to be seen if that holds at a higher level where the opponents are bigger. These guys aren't Gauthier types. As always, depends what they do at the NHL level.
  7. Pity he's not a Marchand or Barnaby type, he's got "rat" built right in there.
  8. Don't get your point. You want him to switch sides and play RHD? I was really happy when they drafted Samuelsson. A number of people here said it was a bad choice. I think you wanted someone else too and said he was too slow or something. Not sure, but I gave that pick a big thumbs up and said just wait 3 years. I wanted basically the same thing this year with Warren (or Lamoureaux or both) but for the right side. That's 2nd rounders, not 5th. This pick is a maybe, but it's a guess. Warren was a sure thing.
  9. Centers generally develop faster though. D men take 3, 4 even 5 years. The LHD we have now need better partners.
  10. It was a typical Sabres draft. Speed, skill, not overly concerned with size or grit, clearly analytically based, lots of Euro, and numerous players with potential upsides . I'm just not happy that they passed on Warren and took the goalie. That was bad.
  11. There's definite upside. Has potential. Good value pick as others have said.
  12. I'd much rather have him AND Lamoureaux AND Warren in the system. Let them compete it out and let us be as stacked in RHD as we are in LHD. I will feel better if we sign 1 or even 2 RHD in free agency, but if not, the hole remains now and in the future.
  13. Exactly. Any of those goalie deals would have made us better, but this one was the best. A 3 year deal for a veteran is perfect too in terms of development curves for UPL and then Levi or Portillo . Holtby? Not much left. Toronto and Edmonton cleared cap room so I would guess that's Kuemper and Campbell to one or the other. Doesn't leave much else. It's looking like they have no immediate playoff plans. It's not a tank for Bedard, but they might want to be in that lottery.
  14. Well that's certainly a name and a half. RJ probably looked at that one and was glad he retired.
  15. Yes, this definitely seems like an analytics based pick. Guy loves to shoot, that's for sure. We will see if he can learn to play a complete game. Might turn into an Afiniganov or Satan type.
  16. I like this one. Big upside potential. With his age and frame he can still grow into being bigger and stronger. Good pick for the 6th round.
  17. I don't hate this pick but I also don't know that much about him. I think there is potential here, but he will take quite a bit of development and even then maybe yes maybe no.
  18. I hate this pick. I'm not against drafting a goalie. Matter of fact I'm all for a goalie every year, but Kokko would have been fine or even gambling on a guy like Dyck in a later round but this just tells me the plan is slow and long and we didn't try for a goalie now. Any of those goalie deals would have been okay imo, Yzerman knocked it out of the park on Husso, why didn't we do that??? The thing that really annoys me is Warren was right there for the taking and we passed. We will regret this big time unless this goalie is spectacular.
  19. Which would have been the same argument for us. I personally don't think he takes 6 years, more like 4 maybe 3 to be able to slot in to the bottom and keep developing. I'm actually more pissed that we passed on Warren too. So I can accept passing on Lamoureaux in the first round, we picked a skill guy so fair enough, but then also passing on Warren in the second? I'm not happy with that.
  20. I think they said something similar on Sportsnet. Should put fans in the seats or something. Definitely has a fast exciting skillset. Considering who was already taken in the first 8 I didn't see a better option. At one point many scouts had him in the top 3.
  21. I wish we'd done a Dach trade more than a DeBrincat trade, but I'd have liked either. Ottawa is trying to take the leap forward that I felt we were ready for. Will be interesting to see what happens, but the immediate playoff competition got stronger even if our long term potential might be greater.
  22. I think it's always possible that Thompson goes back to being a winger. I know we all saw the leap forward at center, and I personally would leave him there, but maybe Granato et al always saw this move as temporary? There are a lot of possibilities, depending on how development goes. We should have depth though, that's almost certain.
  23. I hope we see some size, some grit and some D on the second day. Just to balance things out a little. BPA all the way though.
  24. maybe the Murray thing was leaked onto twitter to push the trade forward? I wouldn't put it past teams these days to leak rumours onto twitter for their own ends and deal making.
