    If your GM is bad enough to put a bad team together after having been in the Oilers draft position, that team would be worse if it had been in Boston's draft position. You want a Boston-like rebuild finding talent in low 1st and later rounds, you have to have the GM for it. Now let's assume (for the sake of argument) TM is the type of GM that could pull that off. I'd rather give that GM a couple years of top 5 picks to work with on top of his talent finding depth throughout the draft than to handicap him with worse picks because I wanted the team to try to be 9th in the East a year sooner.

    It's not trading for a pick you already have. It's trading for the pick to be on your schedule rather than the islanders schedule. You want the islanders to give up their right? You have to give them something. I also disagree with trading them something to get the pick sooner, but you're misrepresenting it to make it sound like a worse idea than it is.

    So these folks https://mobile.twitter.com/NHLChampBelt have been tracking who beat the team that beat the team that… beat the team that won the cup last year. Montreal currently holds the belt and Buffalo can hold it if they win. The Sabres held it at one point earlier this season after beating Phoenix I think but then lost it to Colorado I believe. Just a fun thing to track.
