I would characterize the sabres as halfway through a rebuild starting with when they drafted jack. I think the sabres are a solid, consistent goalie and a more defensive minded defenseman away from making the playoffs. I think the defenseman needs to have good size and not afraid to hit people. Obviously they will need to replace staal as a too 6 center after he leaves/retires. The addition of staal is huge to the sabres. I think he will make a big difference

Thus is my opinion only The owners of the Sabres would not trade jack because they would end up with like 6 people that still rooted for the sabres afterwards. I suspect it would be a mass exodus because nobody would think the sabres owners cared if they traded their franchise player without getting another guaranteed franchise player and then some more

I felt the same way about evan Rodriguez Tage Thompson seems like the kind that if you doubt him that he will not only prove you wrong but smile at you once he proves you wrong

this is a great deal for buffalo. staal is old and will probably retire after this season, but he is good. very good. will probably be top 3 on the team

i fully agree with this. how many years has it been since the tank and the sabres are still horrible. tanking is not worth it. its not like the nba where 1 or 2 players will completely change a team.

its very interesting that the nhl gives the #1 pick to a team that makes the playoffs. call me conspiracy theory guy, but i dont see one of the low market teams getting this #1 pick. also why change the way its done. i understand the format was different for this year, so why not do it the way it was always done and take the teams total #of points, and average it to what they would have had and use that number. its odd that they are giving a team that is considered "good enough" for the playoffs a 1 in 8 chance at #1 (or 1 in 2 if you are edmonton/toronto)
