  1. One complaint about playing in Dunedin is that every game was an away game after the Canadian snowbirds went home. In Buffalo, will there be people actually cheering for the Jays? Likely not against the Yankees, but how about the other teams?
  2. No... The pepperoni is the most unique feature which defines it regionally. Read the posts earlier on about the Rochester vs Buffalo pizza.
  3. Without the characteristic cup pepperoni that Buffalo pizza is known for, its tough to call that a legit review.
  4. Would this be more SDS friendly?
  5. Sorry, what i meant to say is the heap loads of cheese that might be throwing you is similar in over the top richness as an alfredo or other respected foods.
  6. After following this thread, I've learned that there's a lot of history and multiple generations of people making pizza this way... mostly from Italian immigrants. It's more than a chef boyardee cardboard crust and a bag of cheese made by cousin Eddy A simple alfredo sauce which no foodie would turn their nose to is just mainly whipping cream and butter. Just before the lockdown here in Niagara Canada I had a chef prepared porchetta at a winery that was likely no leaner than a slice of La Nova. Ummm... pork belly!
  7. Yeah... Where's the cup pepperoni?!?! 😁 SDS... My guess is you're naturally very lean. I have some friends and acquaintances that would be grossed out by WNY pizza like you. I always say their ability to stay thin is not a function of their incredible discipline, but rather a complete distaste for foods that make you fat and/or an ability to feel legitimately full after eating small portions. A couple guys i work with bring in the sorriest-a$$ plain-jane lunches and when they eat its almost a daily routine... and not something they look like they're enjoying. Yet they're perfectly happy that way... and very lean despite not really exercising too much.
  8. If you're going as far west as Ellicottville, Tim and Bonnie's is really good legit Buffalo pizza. The first Tim and Bonnie's was in Springville and used to be a Blasdell pizza. That was our usual stop on the way back from Holiday Valley. When the switched over to Tim and Bonnie's, the food all tasted the same. When they opened the Ellicottville location we started going there instead. One hockey connection is that Bonnie told me Rob Ray bought the bowling alley next to the pizza joint in Springville and closed off the door that connected the two. Apparently that caused her to lose their bowling alley customers. Now the Ellicottville location has its own bowling alley and arcade attached. Edit: I just looked at their website and it looks like they're now advertising the Springville bowling alley in connection with the pizzeria.
  9. The combination of cheese, sauce/spices, crust, and pepperoni are what make it good. When i eat Buffalo pizza, i definitely try to eat less slices, than if I'm eating a Neopolitan or a Margherita style you describe. Like 3 slices of Buffalo style would make me extremely full whereas I'll eat a good 8 slices of thin crust after eating some antipasto apps. Problem is, I'm also likely to knock back 10 wings dipped in Bleu Cheese to go with my 3 slices of Buffalo pizza.
  10. Did anyone else here have Sammy's in the Falls back before they went downhill (maybe 12 or 15 years ago)? I still maintain they were the best ever.
  11. I'm surprised there would be a discernable difference as close as Rochester. Does Rochester have a style?
  12. He deserves zero credibility.
  13. The grease is from the cheese... Not oil in the pan like at Pizza Hut.
  14. I've had Imperial before. It was great... Holy cheese!!!
  15. I made mention of WNY pizza in another thread. 🤤 In my opinion, pizza from the Buffalo area is the best anywhere. Cup and char pepperoni is the main factor, but the cheese (lots!), sauce, and crust is also the best. Back when i was a kid, Sammy's in the Falls was our family's go to. Up until maybe 15 years or so ago, it was still my favourite, but then the quality dropped off. Since then we've hit Gagsters and Mr B's in the Falls and a whole ton of places around Buffalo but don't have a go to spot yet. The closest would probably be Pearl St Grill, but thats partly due to the location by the arena and my son liking it so much. The chicken finger and the stuffed banana pepper pizzas are really good though. That said, I'm betting there are better places out there, given this is somewhat of a tourist trap. We also really like Tim and Bonnie's pizza in Ellicottville. The steak sub there is probably my favourite too. So let's hear it... School this hungry Canadian on where to go first once the border opens up! 🍕
  16. As a Canadian that hasn't had WNY pizza in over a year, do this! [End thread] 😁 I've taken to making my own to try to emulate the style. We don't have the legit cup and char pepperoni here or the US mozzarella, but there's a place that is maybe 80% there on the pepperoni, and I've found a cheese blend thats ok. My crust is a work in progress, but getting better... I think the key is proof in the fridge. I'm still shooting major blanks on the sauce though. Any tips? Sorry about the hijack.
  17. But while a normal Oh Henry is good, the PB is next level.
  18. There's the PB Oh Henry. It's a Reese peanut butter core surrounded in peanuts and caramel, covered in chocolate. They were making a PB Oh Henry Blizzard for a while at DQ. My wife doesn't even normally like DQ ice cream, but she was all in on those Blizzards!
  19. For the Canadians here... Where does Coffee Crisp rate in your families/circles in popularity? As i mentioned, i don't know anyone that eats it (though some people must since its been around for ever).
  20. If it wasn't chocolate, we'd just call it what it is. Like an Eat More would just be called an Eat More. Same thing if it wasn't in bar form.
  21. Another thing i just noticed... in Canada we always say chocolate bar, not candy bar.
  22. Here in Canada, I don't know anyone who considers Coffee Crisp their favourite. I've always wondered why people from the US like it so much. One tidbit about Canadian chocolate is that its higher in cocoa and cocoa butter than US chocolate so most would say it tastes better. Head to head, I'd say most stuff in the US is better but chocolate is one thing Canadians can lay claim to. In Europe, the chocolate would be even higher quality than Canada. I'll take a Peanut Butter O'Henry as my favourite with Skor not far behind.
  23. I know people from Buffalo really love the Bills and may have been raised more on football than hockey, but the sports are too different to make comparisons. Hockey is more of a team effort. Thats why the top QBs are always in Superbowl contention, whereas McDavid is lucky to win a round.
  24. I based my answer of" Quinn cracks the lineup first but Peterka is better long term" off the world juniors. Quinn struggled at times when Peterka was one of the better players in the tournament. It helped that Peterka played with Stützle, but Canada was pretty stacked throughout their entire lineup.
