    Field trip?

    Hahaha very nice.

I agree with all of this. Right up to the last period.

My guess is that the Isles finish just outside of a top five pick. Somewhere 6-9.

I'm just so glad I didn't have to read the famous 8 to 14 everyone and their grandmother use on this board. I bet they finish 7th last just to spite them all.

  2. Imagine for a moment that the Islanders give us their 2015 and the Sabres and Islanders finish last and 2nd last (or vice versa) in 2015.

There would then be a 43.8% chance that the Sabres would take the top two picks, presumably McDavid and Eichel. 43.8%! That's huge! The only simile I can muster is that it's like getting Crosby and Malkin in one draft.

I think we want that 2015'er and I think we want both teams to be a flaming ###### trainwreck next season. I mean, it's so wishful, but it's so rewarding to think about.

Bingo. Hope you saved some more tank pics for next year.

  3. They were 22-30-8 at the olympic break, good for 52 points in 60 games (0.87 points per game).

They went 12-7-3 after the olympic break, good for 27 points in 22 games (1.23 points per game).

So they actually put up more points after losing Tavares. So their problems go way beyond his injury. Fixing those is an awfully tall order, especially the goaltending. I don't agree with this assumption that it is given that they will improve next year, especially with Snow calling the shots.

edit: I hand counted that pre-Olympic record, so it is possible that I messed that up.

Wow, I had just looked up the stats on this and was going to reply with this exact same thing. Then as I'm scrolling down I see you had already done it. Nicely done. The Isles sucked last year with Tavares (and Vanek the majority of the time) in the lineup.

  4. Imagine the Islanders defer, suck bad next year. So the NYI finish say 7th and then win the lottery... we finish last and therefore own the 1st overall and 2nd overall picks in 2015.

Dal Colle is going to be a good player in this league. It's the dream of a slim chance that the above plays out that makes me more than ok with the Isles defering the pick to next year. If that were to happen the Buffalo Sabres would be a dynasty for the next 10+ years.

  5. I kind of like the idea that i will have another huge interest in watching a team next year…ill probably be rooting for them to lose more than I'm rooting for the sabres to win…in fact, ill probably be rooting for both teams to lose! :w00t: I also think it would be awesome if the sabres and the isles were the two worst teams in the league next year. Not only would it guarantee us one of mcdavid/eichel, and give u a 50/50 shot at both, but i think it would be hilarious to watch the lottery on tv and possibly have it come down to the top 2, which would both be the sabres haha. So, we have the sabres and the sabres, who's it gonna be folks?

I know it's very highly unlikely but let's not forget about that Blues pick. Maybe Miller doesn't resign.....

  6. I think it's myth that this board favours a "tank for McDavid" strategy.

Just because many posters desperately want McDavid doesn't mean most of them think he is likely.

Most of us understand that even under the unlikely best-case scenario of us and the Islanders finished 29th and 30th next year, chances of getting him is still less than 50%

I think what the "tankers" really favour is acquiring first-line forwards, with the understanding there is a better chance of making that happen with a couple years of picking in the top five than a couple years of picking 13th.

But when the Blues end up in third last.......

Thanks. Interesting that Nylander isn't in there...wonder if teams are really concerned about his frame.

Agreed. Also surprised fleury is 10th. I was thinking of him going a bit lower. Although maybe with the lack of d in the top half of the draft some team will reach.

  8. Check this man child out...

Being from Oshawa I watch him a ton. I love his size and he's great in front of the net on the PP but....the kid can not skate. I'm serious. Like brutal skating. If you can get a stream of the OHL Eastern Conference finals watch it; it begins Friday. I love his heart but not sure how he will translate with his foot ummmm 'speed'.

  9. After watching the Petes/Gens series and even a bit of the Kingston/Petes series I don't want Ritchie. He takes a ton of really dumb penalties. He reminds me alot of Kassian which some here may really want. To me he plays more closely to actual Zach Kassian than the legend of Zach Kassian. Was that the term we used for him? It's been a couple of years.....
