  1. Buffalo finished with 62 points (6-7-4).

Edmonton finished with 61 points (2-12-3). Their schedule is BRUTAL (St. Louis, Anaheim three times, San Jose twice, LA, Colorado)

Calgary finished with 65 points (3-10-5).

New York Islanders finished with 66 points (2-9-5).

Florida finished with 63 points (2-10-4).

Man last night was great for the tank. With Buffalo up 1-0 early and Edmonton down 2-0 early I thought here we go, we will only be up by 4 points with us having to play an extra game. But the Tank prevailed and we got a huge comeback shootout win by Edmonton last night!!

Just out of curiousity, if you have Buffalo beating those 3 bottom feeders (Isels twice) who do you have as Buffalo's other two 'upsets'? I see Carolina as a very beatable team, New Jersey as a reasonable chance for a win and Vancouver is in a tailspin and can certainly be beaten. On top of that we have 2 more against the Red Wings who are banged up and not a very great team this year.

  2. Sure, but it'd take a lot for it to go down like that.

I guess that is true but it just goes to show it certainly can happen and the way we've ruined draft spots in the past is probably contributing me to thinking it has a better chance of happening than it really does.

I never thought we would have had a chance against Boston and San Jose a couple of weeks ago but won those. Really I didn't think we had much of a shot against Tampa either but pulled that one off. Then I think ok, we've been on a bit of a run but we will probably get beat by Chicago by 5 goals. We did lose obviously, however there was a Sabres shot to the net late in the game that had a decent shot of tying it.

  3. Updates 3/10/14

    Michael Dal Colle: 38g, 56a, 94pts, 65gp = 40g, 59a, 99pts, 68gp

    Sam Bennett: 36g, 55a, 91pts, 56gp = 44g, 67a, 111pts, 68gp

    Samson Reinhart: 34g, 64a, 98pts, 56gp = 41g, 78a, 119pts, 68gp

    Jake Virtanen: 42g, 25a, 67pts, 68gp = Final.

    Leon Draisaitl: 35g, 62a, 97pts, 60gp = 40g, 70a, 110pts, 68gp

And Oshawa wraps up 1st overall in the OHL Eastern Conference!! Largely on the backs of Dal Colle and Scott Laughton. Can't wait to see how Dal Colle performs in the playoffs. Having said that it looks more and more likely he will probably go around 5th and he won't really be in our conversation unless the Isles give us the 2014 pick.

  4.

    More on Leon...

    16g, 25a, 41pts since WJC (21 games)

    11g, 16a, 27pts in last 11 games.

He will be considered at length by whomever for #1 overall pick.

I had to do some driving this weekend so I was listening to I think either 590 or 1050 but they interviewed Leon and he seemed very mature and humble. He was asked what he thought of being called the German Gretzky and he shrugged it off by saying a friend started calling him that after putting up a bunch of points one year but called it rediculous to be compared to one of the greats. Kid appeared to be well spoken and has his head on straight based on that one interview.

  5. Lets just get through this year and then one more. These drafts are huge to bring in star players. We're already well underway with turning this thing around as far as legit grade a prospects on d in our pipeline. Plus Murray is doing things like he did at the deadline will hopefully pay dividends in a couple of years. We just need a couple of top line forwards and I think we will be very competitive in 2 to 3 years time.

Also, as has been said mcdavid would be amazing but based on write ups of next years draft and seeing some of those guys at the world juniors this year there should be no less than 4 or 5 real game changers in next years draft.

  6. A cursory look at the UFAs suggest to me that the Sabres could, if they signed the right guys, ice a relatively competitive team. I know the team and lots of fans are looking at the 2015 draft, but, is there some mandate to ice the best team they can? I wonder if the Sabres tanked another season, if other teams would complain that it was intentional (especially since not only had Black said that, but the organization all season has said as such, even though the main voice of that, Regier, is gone).

Even with Black saying that I think it would be pretty hard to prove intend on being intentionally bad. Especially considering the coach seems to want to get the best out of his players and wants no part of the intentional losing. I'm assuming all or atleast 95% of the players would not sign up for that either.

I would not be surprised one bit if they change next years draft lotto so that maybe you can move down a couple of spots in the draft or have an even lower than 25% chance at the number 1 pick if you finish in dead last? There have been whispers about this and with a draft containing this much talent, I could see it happening.

  7. I don't care if we have 1 and 3, you take Reinhart. He has the look of a star forward, to me. The rest look like they're going to be key contributors at best, but not game changers. Reinhart is the ultimate goal in my mind.

The most hilarious thing I've seen today:

"The NHL gave the New Jersey Devils more today than the New York Islanders got for Thomas Vanek."

    :w00t:

  8. IMHO, our big problem next year might be goaltending. The tandem of Enroth/Neuvirth doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I think that is by design with Murray. If we're going all in on the tank we almost have to have below average goaltending. If Miller wasn't here this season we would be a clear cut last place club rather than one that is just probably a last place team. Don't forget, I'm sure we won't be the only ones tanking next year.

Having said that, I wish we had or I hope that Murray intends on bringing a very good goaltending prospect to our farm system. Demko with the late first we would get if the Blues make the conference finals?

  9.

Give Tallinder a one year $25 million extension.

    Haha nice.

I don't know if it's because of him or not but Christ Myers is playing so much better the past couple of months that if it was due to him then pay the man!!

  10.

I can already say that it wasn't phenomenal. Whether it was good (minimum) or very good (max) depends on the details of the Moulson deal.

I agree it hasn't been great but looking at the deals completed today I'm really liking what went down on Friday.
