  1. I'm heading to beautiful Nova Scotia tomorrow. I'm flying in with my wife and one year old (God I hope the little guy doesn't have a meltdown on the plane) to do some sight seeing from Saturday until Thursday and then have a conference in Halifax from Thurs evening until next Sunday.

We've got plans to do some whale watching and will spend a couple of days on the Cabot Trail. My personal favourite items are a tour of Keiths Brewery as well as a tour of the Glenora Whisky Distillery. Should be good times with some great fresh seafood.

  2. I understand the Isles don't want to give Buffalo a good player next year so it may change their thinking a bit into going for a win now approach. However I don't think it's in their best interest to trade the 5th overall. If the Isles do trade the pick they will not have a first rounder in this years draft or a first or second rounder in next years draft. That sounds like a horrendous idea for a team who does not appear to be on the cusp of serious contention. They shouldn't let that Vanek trade completely dictate their future. That's such a Darcy way of thinking. Just my 2 cents.

  3. Well the 5th would have been nice and I'm a bit disappointed they were able to sign Halak. Having said that we now own 3 1st round picks in what is suppose to be an excellent draft year. Here's hoping for a Sabres, Isles and Blues tank in 2014/2015!!

  4. So with the Wild being eliminated I believe their second round pick is now determined to be 49th overall. If Miller does not resign with the Blues before the draft I believe the Sabres then retain Minni's 49th pick. Assuming Miller doesn't sign we know the picks through the first two rounds are:

    2. Buffalo's 1st

    5. NY Isles 1st (If Isles don't defer)

    31. Buffalo's 2nd

    39. Jets 2nd

    49. Wild 2nd

Someone please correct me if I'm off.

  5. Ok guys (and gals)

Mother's Day is this weekend and I have no idea what to get/do for my mom and wife. I was thinking of breakfast in bed along with some flowers and a card for my wife and maybe flowers and a card for my mom. Just sounds so cliché though. Anyone else with any good ideas/plans for mom/wife on the weekend? I may need to steal a couple.....

  6. There is a good chance for Leon Draisaitl to make the german team for the world championships in belarus... another chance for him to showcase his talent... An opportunity that Ekblad,Reinhart, Bennett... will not have

Out of all the top guys that need another shot to leave a lasting impression it's him.

  7. Not sure why my quote feature doesn't work but I'm completely on board with you NS regarding those damn trampolines!! Neighbour has one in the house behind us and half the neighbourhood of kids show up everyday yelling and screaming. I let my great dane out to run around for a bit and they just try and torment her. Damn kids lol......

Also, great news about your wife man.

  8. It indicates that as a franchise they have done it. I understand most if not all the players have changed but as a franchise you can say hey we did this once and this was the result. I really think Florida wants to trade out because they want a forward not Ekblad.

If Florida wants a forward and not Ekblad then I really hope they do trade out.

To WildCard, I agree that both Sam's seem to be rated fairly evenly but we brought in Tim Murray mainly for his talent evaluation and I want him to have the choice.

  9. Imagine this... NYI defer. They are terrible next year and finish 2nd to last. We finish last. The Blues miss the playoffs and win the lottery. We draft 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall in 2015... I would actually just have a heart attack if that played out.

Oh I know. 1, 2 and 3 would be incredible. Based on the depth of next years draft I would sign up for 3 picks in the top 10. Even if we pick 2nd, 4th and 8th or something that will set this franchise up big time for the next decade.

  10. I generally agree with you guys. I don't know how likely my scenario is, I was just pointing out that it was possible.

And that the Blues waiting until after the draft to sign Miller isn't necessarily that bad a thing.

Ya I agree it won't be much worse if they wait until after. Personally I hope they don't sign him at all and just take the 2016 3rd and pray that having a rookie goalie next year may lead to a down year. The big prize in this trade was the 2015 first rounder and I want that pick to be as high as possible. Likely they miss the playoffs? No but I would rather them have a rookie and someone like Elliott in net versus Miller in the regular season. You never know.

  11. My interest level in the second round series: LA-Anaheim, Boston-Montreal Chicago-Minnesota

    Pittsburgh-New York

I was surprised hearing ppl bash the Philly / NYR series, I thought it was a great series.

I'm also pumped to see how NYR stacks up against cry baby Crosby. If there's a series I could take or leave it's probably Chicago / Minn as I don't think the Wild have a prayer. But you never know.

As for my picks I'm going:

    LA

    Chicago

    Montreal

    NYR

  12. An ideal situation would go like this:

Blues keep their pick, we trade the Minny pick and our third to (for example) Anaheim for their first.

Then Blues sign Miller, and we get their 2016 second.

Under that scenario, we would be giving up a second and a third for a first and second.

If Miller signs before the draft we would giving up that first and second for just a first.

I'm still not sure if that's the right logic or not. You could still make a trade up with the Ducks using our Win 2nd and a 3rd if you wanted.

If you ignore the proposed trade which may or may not happen you are arguing a (2nd) > (1st less 2nd and 3rd). Not saying you are right or wrong but myself I would prefer that 1st knowing I have to give up my 2nd (Wild) and 3rd to get it. I could still trade up again if I wanted using the Jets second and something else.

  13. If he signs with the Blues after the draft, we get their 2016 2nd.

If signs with them before the draft (or if they trade his rights) it's our our 2014 third and Minny's 2014 second for the Blues 2014 first.

If he doesn't sign with them we get their 2016 third.

If he doesn't sign, I'm betting Murray packages two of our four picks between 31 and 61 to move back up into the first again anyway, so Miller resigning with them after the draft could actually be better for us than him signing before.

What? Can you please explain that. If Miller signs before we are back in the first round again and don't have to trade anything other than one second and one third. That's better than trading at minimum two seconds to get back up there.
