Just remember, league average goaltending last season would have given them 45-50 (can't remember the exact number) goals allowed. It's not outrageous to think Halak performing around his career average puts them outside the top-10 picks.

True but no vanek or moulson as of now. Also, even with jt back they were bad last year with him. Could they end up in the teens? Sure because there is a lot of parity in this league and three point games make a huge difference but nothing they've done yet screams a drastic increase in standings. As of now I'm going to say 6th to 12th with just as good a shot at 6 than 12 IMO.

We will be picking in the teens with their pick. Mark my words!

Based on halak? You've been preaching all offseason how the isles are going to do everything in their power to improve. Although it's still early literally all they've done to help them is sign a middle of the road goaltender. Boyle already gave them the ol f u and no real other signings as of yet.

  3. To grade the draft, I took my model, www.limedata.us/blog/40.php, and selected what it thought was the top 50 or so players, then see who got those players. This is really rough, no goaltenders, it does a bad job on weird leagues, I never got defensemen scaled right, but according to the model, the better teams, generally, picked better players

    Team Picks Total Score

    TBL 4 1500

    LAK 4 1000

    STL 2 1000

    NYI 2 1000

    TOR 2 1000

    CGY 1 1000

    BUF 1 1000

    FLA 3 900

    DET 3 900

    EDM 1 900

    PHI 3 700

    VAN 2 700

    AZ 2 700

    NSH 3 600

Most everyone else got 1 of the top 50 or so, some, like New Jersey got zero.

The model loves Barbashev, but Tampa Bay traded down instead of taking him, which gives me pause, since Tampa Bay knows this stuff. Barbashev will be my most watched player from this draft.

Tim Murray arrived in town with the second overall pick, 3 seconds, and the ability to take dead money from other teams, and left town farther away from Tampa in talent then he was before. I believe I am the first off the Tim Murray bus.

So your off the Tim bandwagon because he did poorly based on your model that seems very flawed? I would have preferred barbi to Lemieux as well but I think you are one of the first to say he is not a top 50 player in this draft. Several even had him pegged as a first round pick.

  4. And, any one of you who are for the tank and are bitching about this move? You're a hypocrite. With all due respect and all of that, but, seriously, you can't want the tank and not be giggling yourself to death over this move. If you aren't, your opinions and judgments are fundamentally compromised.

Oh I'm alright with this move for the points listed above. If there's any reason to tank it's this year and this move helps achieve the goal. Even hoping they leave risto down for atleast half the season so we can go with a Rudy pysyk second pairing.

  5. Those upset by the quality of our d next year I say this helps the tank. I know you can't put all faith in one young prospect but there are a couple potential franchise guys sitting at the top of the 2015 draft. This helps us get there after watching one more terrible season. Besides I like the attitude of Tim. If you don't want to be here then don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

  6. I'm not ready to write this guy off. Tim's strength is in talent evaluation. I'll trust him until he gives us a reason not too.

From the sound of the scouting reports, he sounds like a 3-4th rounder... this sounds like a reach, or perhaps GMTM knows something that we don't?

Button had him ranked 40th and I think iss had him like 25 for na skaters.

  7. I'm also on the reinhart bandwagon but that interview with I think central scouting was very interesting. They said Bennett was ranked first on their list and sounded like it wasn't even really close. Interesting that they had him also ranked first on their midterm rankings and said it was a closer decision on the midterm ranking then what ended up as their final.

  8. In my humble opinion I hope we keep all of our D and take a Sam at two and then trade 2 or all 3 of our seconds to move back up for another mid round first and take a forward. It takes D much longer to develop than F and by the sounds of things next draft should be absolute franchise changing. I want our D to be ready when we pick McDavid (or one/two of the other highly ranked forwards). This way I think we are atleast competitive come 2015/2016.

What do you guys think of DeAngelo?

In a defence-poor draft, the kid has a world of skill.

I'm thinking an arrogant, defence-poor team (like the Flyers) might take him early in the second half of the first round.

His attitude scares me, but we don't have a player like that in the system.

Usually I avoid players with red flags like that.

But if he is still there at 39, his talent would have to make us look at him very closely.

What about if he's there at 31?

  10. Didn't realize how many others were on the Barbashev train.

Do you give up Ehrhoff to get him? Because that might get it done.

Absolutely. It hurts us short term for the lottery next draft and helps us in the long run. Plus we have a good amount of top 4 d hopefully coming up soon.
