Bruin just means bear. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bruin A baby bear is a cub.

Yeah, obviously Michkov is awesome. That certainly wasn’t me predicting that he will struggle. I don’t think he will. My point was just that it’s still very uncertain how things will shake out 18 months from now. What if Michkov more or less continues what he is doing, while Bedard hits a little growth spurt, ending up 5’11”+ 190+ by draft time, and also just destroys the WHL for over 2 points per game, and wins MVP of the WJC for a gold medal winning Canada? Something like that scenario is not outlandish. It’s entirely possible and could definitely end up with Bedard being drafted #1. I know that you know all this though, I’m not really railing at you. Next year will be a race indeed.
-
Yeah. It’s entirely possible that he goes #1, but it’s just not a certainty. It’s also possible that he could struggle slightly adjusting to the KHL full time next season, while Bedard puts up iNsANe numbers better than McDavid, and someone takes Bedard 1st. I feel like you do this all the time with prospects. You are way too certain about what you think will happen.
-
Dude. It’s a year and a half, 1 and 2/3 seasons, before his draft.
-
He is amazing talented, so someone will draft him. It’s just a question of whether he will get drafted where his talent warrants (top-3) or will he drop down to 10ish. His KHL contract encompasses 3 seasons after his draft. He would come over to the NHL for his age 21-22 season. I want to say that it’s doubtful he finishes that contract in the KHL, he would be losing out on serious money at some point, but it’s kind of a weird situation so who knows. Contract runs for 3 seasons after his 2023 draft.

Understood. I took it as you pinning blame on Adams for not signing Reinhart. I agree, we can’t do that with any certainty. I better understand what you are saying now. Ultimately, you are 100% correct. Adams is going to own these results. I don’t like the continued losing, but I can understand the why a rebuild might have been the best path forward for the Sabres. In general, I am liking Adams’ process and the way that he is shaping the organization. The one thing that I simply can not forgive him for is the goaltending situation, two years running. He simply needs to fix this going forward. This team can not survive simply waiting for UPL/Levi/Portillo to develop into an average or above NHL starter.
-
This situation is incredibly murky from our outside perspective. Yes, Reinhart can say “I was willing to sign long term.” but what kind of contract was he really willing to sign? If the requirement was 8 years, $9M or something like that then yes, Reinhart can rightly say “I was willing to sign long term.”, but Adams was also probably right to take the path he did.

In my opinion, it wouldn’t be worth the potential loss of legitimacy. I don’t think they would risk it. Plus who would be masterminding this? wouldn’t allow the owners need to be on board with such a scheme?

To the bolded, How so? When you place a bet, your payout for a win has nothing to do with how much/many other bets were placed.
-
This is a problem as old as organized sport. Joe Schmoes now being able to bet online will not make rigging any more likely though. Rigging is always organized by rich and powerful people. They have been able to place bets all along. The leagues will fight against any rigging though, their legitimacy depends upon it.

Goaltending? Defense? After the Whistle debate.
Curt replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Aud Club
This team has an average offense, below average defense, and truly horrific goaltending. Its mostly the goaltending. Defenses mess up sometimes, even on good teams. Good goalies make saves anyway. The goaltending is by far the worst part of this team. -
30-40% better than last season, when he was hurt and kinda bad? 30-40% better than right now, when his is in the middle of rehab from major neck surgery? Yeah, sure, those would make sense. This tweet is sort of exemplifies why Twitter is terrible. It’s both sensationalist and uninformative.

That was Luke Kunin. Not to be confused with former Sabre Dominik Kahun.

Sabres acquire goalie Malcolm Subban for Future Considerations
Curt replied to Hoss's topic in The Aud Club
Right. Very different scenario, as you say. In MLB “player to be named later” always is an actual player, whereas in NHL “future considerations” is always nothing, at least since the start of the cap era. Nats made out well in that deal. -

I honestly just think that the CBA doesn’t allow a trade for nothing. You have to say it’s for future considerations, even that ends up being diddly squat. -

Subban was probably just excited that he is going to get NHL games. -

Genuinely interested, do you have a single example of a time that future considerations turned out to be anything other than absolutely nothing? I think it’s nothing 100% of the time, and it’s literally just the way that they must phrase “nothing” to comply with the CBA. -
What happened his junior season? The numbers regressed pretty hard.

This is strangely worded. Does this mean that they already have a prospective buyer who is proposing to the NHL a plan to move the team to Houston? It would be kind of weird if the sellers were suggesting the move. “Yeah, this team isn’t worth much here, but you could move to....um....Houston! Yeah, in Houston this team would do great!” Sounds to me like they are not just for sale, but already have a buyer, on the condition that the NHL approves a move to Houston.
-
I’m going to try to ask an illuminating question. What was your opinion on Tage Thompson prior to this season?
-
If true, well played on his part.
-
Yeah, me either. I enjoy following prospects and I can find hope in the Sabres group of young players, but pinning outsized expectations on any one player is just a setup for disappointment.
-
I honestly feel this. They have been so bad for so long that I just don’t want to hear about the hyped up superstar who is going to save the team. Been there, done that. Give me a group of good players who work hard. If any of them really do become great players, fantastic, but no one should be preordained. So, yes, I’m also glad that Power is not getting hyped too much, and I also hope that the team doesn’t win the lottery the next couple years.

Nah. PS: I’m kind of trolling you. Could you contribute some additional names to the conversation instead of just saying “you are missing a bunch of guys”?
