I was worried about his skating and didn’t like the pick but it looks like I was wrong about that.

I think it’s extremely uncertain as to whether those players will become top-6 players in the future. They are promising, yes, but things like this are far from certain, and you just can’t count on them reaching that level of play. I feel that the Sabres need to take a lot more swings at drafting impact players.
-
I’m on this train too. Same for 2023 picks. They have 8 picks in the 1st/2nd over the next two drafts. Use them all. I think I actually believe in their drafting, amazing.

This is true, but among that group of ridiculously superior talent, Power is out producing almost all of them. He is one point off the team lead and has more points than several highly drafted forwards.
-
Yeah, I agree. Just thought your phrasing was strange since there really is no such thing as a 20 goal 3C. That player is probably a top 6 quality player. If you meant that Tage is capable of being a 20ish goal scorer (over the past two seasons he already has been), but hopefully he gets bumped down to the 3rd line when more prospects develop, that kind of makes more sense. What do you think about Tage’s defense? I think it’s been alright. If he is able to keep up the level of play that he has shown so far under Granato, then I think he is showing himself to be a top 6 quality forward, or at least someone who can be a middle 6 guy on a good team.

“Yelling” at people can mean different things, but you aren’t really supposed to be yelling at people at work, whether you are drinking or not.
-
How many 20 goal scoring 3rd line centers are there in the league?
-
Because there were lots of good players available, Quinn was old for his draft year, and he didn’t produce squat before his draft year. So everyone is thinking, is this guy a one year wonder? And yeah, he wasn’t ranked all that low.
-
That was never the book on Quinn. In junior he drove his line, he creates, he scores, he plays defense.
-
Well, I’m going to assume that there was drinking involved here. If someone drinks and yells at people at work, it’s not a weak reason for him to get the boot.

The answer to the question is basically only Perrault. The Sabres have never had the same Captain for 5 full seasons. Perrault became C after Gare was traded in season, was C for 4 full seasons, then retired in season. So he had it for 4 full seasons and parts of two others. That’s the longest. https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/BUF/captains.html

If he needs help, then I’m glad that he is getting it. I hope that there wasn’t a serious incident required to prompt this.

Every single year there are quality players (usually several of them) drafted in the 11-20 range of the draft, and often there is even a star or 2 in there. Bubble teams can still get better. They don’t need to be “stuck” in that situation perpetually. A team that is on the bubble for several years can improve. The whole reason that the 2008-2013 Sabres felt that way is because they were drafting/developing like trash so there were no young players coming up to make an impact. If you can’t draft and develop, it doesn’t matter what team building plan you take, it will fail.

The size argument is kind of tired, but I think there is a slightly more interesting conversation here. Which player skills are overrated/underrated by scouts in the draft?
-
Tired of the argument, or just plain tired?
-
The question was, what prospects did the scouts miss on because they were too concerned about size? It wasn’t, who missed on prospects because of size? Yeah, we know it was NHL scouts.
-
How about guy who would “die” for the Sabres crest? Is that a generic base level requirement? 😜
-
Nothing personal. But the argument that “yeah, every team wants players who are X (fast, big, good leaders, etc)” is just a really tired argument. Everyone wants a perfect player, yes. However, 99.9% of the time one must choose which desirable characteristics they are going to value most highly and target.

Not true. The NHL is not getting younger all the time. It’s gotten significantly older since the 1980’s, and stayed mostly the same for the past 20 years. https://www.google.com/amp/s/soundofhockey.com/2021/02/27/data-dump-saturday-ages-of-nhl-players/amp/

It’s almost like the current front office believes that both analytics AND culture are important. Imagine that!

Humans are complex and not binary. You can both be right. ROR was a good example of hard work, the right way to play, and what a player can do to maximize their potential, but also a bad example of how to have a harmonious relationship with management and how to not drink+drive.

Um, yes. He is 22, he put up 17 points in his final 22 games last season, and he looked great in preseason before getting hurt in the first regular season game. Over the past year he has shown tons of growth. I think that a lot of people here are pretty optimistic on his future.

Lawrence Pilut signs an Extension in KHL, Will No Longer Be Sabres Property
Curt replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Yup, Samuelsson too, along with Dahlin. It’s a lot of young LHD.
