Never saw them. I assume they were smart, keep it simple type players? Bigger, better versions of Pilut?
-
A boring, heady player? That sounds like Pilut. That’s his game. Get the puck, pass the puck, make good decisions.

To elaborate on this, Risto’s ES points per 60 over the past few years. 2016- 0.75 2017- 0.71 2018- 0.74 2019- 1.03 2020- 1.10 Doesn’t prove anything, but it’s a pretty good jump. It kind of went unnoticed because his PP production went down at the same time, with Dahlin taking a lot of those mins away.
-
I’m just going to throw this fact out there. Rasmus Ristolainen has improved his even strength point production over the past couple of years.
-
It doesn’t really impact your larger point, but didn’t Burns get shuffled back and forth from D to F over the first few years of his career?
-
I agree with this completely. He has been the roughly the same player for about 5 years. I see no reason to expect a sudden improvement. It could happen, sure, but it would make him a serious outlier. If he had shown gradual improvement over the past few years, then sure, it could be reasonable to predict further improvement, but that’s not what has happened here. I thought he looked a little better this season, but that it’s probably the result of Krueger’s play style providing better defensive support around him. I still think he is a 3/4/5 type of guy. He is ok, and he is pretty good on the PP, but you probably don’t want him getting really tough usage. He will run a good PP and get very physical at times, but will also leave you holding your head in your hands over some of his decisions in the D-zone.

There is more than one Wikipedia???

Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
Curt replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
I think that he actually got hammered for being generally dismissive of the whole thing and creating no federal response at all. -
Not quite as catchy, or effective.

I’ve repeatedly (Don’t remember by who, so I don’t mean to single you out specifically) seen Botterill’s moves characterized as of the “moneyball variety” because he is spending low ended assets to acquire lots of low end players in the hopes that some of them can surpass expectations. However, it’s a bad comparison. That’s not what moneyball is/was. It was identifying specific market inefficiencies where players were not being valued properly in relation to their impact on winning. The whole goal was to identify players who could contribute to winning at a cheaper salary. The cheaper part was the whole point. Botterill hasn’t done this at all. He isn’t doing anything like moneyball, he is just trying to find diamonds in the rough.

It’s a miracle that any of us have survived the Sabres these past several years.

So, we can discuss the biology of the virus and how it effects us personally, but not what should be done about it? I don’t think that public health policies/strategies are inherently political in nature. There is of course a point at which a discussion on these can become political, as is the case with any topic. So, I think you are kind of off base here. This is just my opinion.

To the bolded - Is it really likely though??? I have doubts.

Because this thread is for all Pedants, as opposed to just one Pedant, the title should actually be “The Pedants’ Thread”.
-
Just for me personally: You could say that he is an Alex Nylander “type” of player in that he is a plus skill/skating finesse winger. However, I think that his demonstrated willingness to work hard in all 3 zones kind of separates him from Nylander in that regard.
-
Sabres won’t “lose him in free agency” though. They could trade him if they think he will be too expensive, but he is an RFA and Sabres hold his rights. That being said, I personally think the idea that Montour will be too expensive or cost $5M per year is nonsense.

I don’t think it is that amazing. It’s pretty normal I’d say. Maybe above average for forwards but definitely below average for D, and one really good goalie prospect.
-
Lundqvist still looks great! Lol
-
Out! Out with you! Get out of this draft thread!
-
I think this is basically true. People will have favorites, but the Sabres should be able to get a good forward prospect that everyone will be at least ok with.
-
128th in scoring rate is a high end 2nd liner. Plus, he was tied for 102nd in total points, and 13 ahead of him were D. So, 89th in points among forwards. Thats low end 1st line production. And he barely gets any PP time right now. Along with being one of the most well respected defensive forwards out there. At 22. I truly believe that if he was the #1c on a team, he would be putting up 60+ points and be considered a Selke finalist. I think he will force his way into that discussion in the next couple years regardless.

I get what you are saying here, but I just want to say that I don’t think Woody is particularly more informed in the areas of epidemiology or the economic and social impacts of a shutdown than many others here. I believe that he has stated as much in the past, correct me if I’m wrong. He is certainly entitled to his opinion, but I feel that it’s based upon his emotion and personal experiences more so than any study or deeper understanding of the situation. That’s ok though.

Sean Monahan’s play on the defensive end leaves something to be desired. If heard that expressed multiple times. I honestly don’t know how true it is.

Anthony Cirelli is essentially a 22 year old Ryan O’Reilly. He is worth a 7th OA pick (and more) by any objective evaluation.

Report: “Another Disconnect” Between Botterill and Krueger
Curt replied to That Aud Smell's topic in The Aud Club
You could say the opposite too. There haven’t been many good Sabres stats over the same time period. That is leading to more interest in the poetry and romance (culture, heart, grit?) of the game. People reaching for any easy to digest explanation for why the team can remain bad for so long. I don’t think either is true though. Fans (especially fans who might post on the internet) of good teams also have a lot of interest in using statistics as an analytical tool.
