What steps did they take to reduce spending on the Sabres pre-pandemic? I don’t recall any changes more than 12 months ago.
-
I think it’s an actual search.
-
Could be. Yeah, they were already an up and coming team, so I might have projected them as a playoff team even before.
-
Not really surprising that the Sabres didn’t show interest. Pegulas aren’t know for tolerating blunt, abrasive employees. Gallant can’t seem to keep a job for more than 2 years for personality reasons even when his teams are performing well.
-
Good question. I’ll leave you to kill time in peace.

I guess I don’t understand the point of making that comparison. Especially when purposely removing any assets gained from a Eichel, Reinhart, or Risto trade. The team is where it is today. Why does it matter who they had under contract 6 years ago?

This is high level.

I don’t understand the point of this thread.

Terry really liked what he saw from Capuano at the World Championships.
-
I’m going to agree with others that he can be a 2C and maybe a 1C on a scoring line. He is 6’0” but on the thin side. Not small but more of a finesse player. Stylistically, Marner and Barzal came to mind. Someone said Scott Gomez and that’s not bad either. A natural playmaker and set up guy. He is full of fancy stick handling and passing moves that have style in addition to substance.

If it’s an 82 game season, the answer is 9 games. Any more than that, and the 1st year of the ELC gets burned.
-
He is about to be a free agent. He hasn't been able to come to a contract agreement with his team. He has been traded twice, and he is also a very good defenseman.
-
That’s different. Cozens is clearly a star in the making and future Sabres Captain.

Everyone has their own favorite flavor of cool aid.

Yeah, I wrongly thought he meant that it would be better for the team to draft a D. Personally, I really like Beniers and I think Eklund had a very impressive season. Given the choice, I’d take Beniers. That doesn’t mean I’m right though, and if the pick is Ow(st)en Power(s) I have lots of things I like about him as well. I have my opinion, and the fact that most disagree doesn’t sway me, but everyone else can have their own opinion as well.
-
Ah, ok, yeah, sure, if Liger and I are wrong and the Sabres are (hypothetically) right.
-
I don’t see any reason that the Sabres in particular need to draft a LD as opposed to a forward.
-
Beniers and Eklund, definitely my two favorite forwards, probably my #1/#2 players.
-
Just to clarify. The new rule, (1) starts NEXT season and doesn’t apply retroactively to past seasons, and (2) does not actually limit the number of times a team can pick #1. It limits the number of times that a team can move up in the lottery. For Example: If a team finishes in last place and gets #1, that doesn’t count against them. If a team finishes in 4th to last and moved up to #2, that does count against them. I really hope that Buffalo does not get these players. I don’t want to see another savior anointed.
-
You picked the team with the most wins in the league. Good job I guess.
-
Who is Mike Wilson?
-
Freshmen forwards, or players in their draft year? I only ask because I know that for NCAA players in their draft year, Beniers has produced more than anyone since Eichel.

Its probably true, but it’s crazy that Hall’s contract could be heavily influenced by his performance in one playoff series. Have we not been watching this guy play for a decade? Have we not seen how his career arc is playing out? The NHL talent evaluators really need to see how he does in the Islanders series to determine what Taylor Hall is as a player? Are these guys any good at their jobs? Lol
