I think of it like this. Risto is a $50 chip you can cash in at the the deadline. Borgen is a ticket to receive a $25 chip every year for 4 years.
-
Some of them were asked, and responded that they were excited about being part of this group and building something going forward. Other guys were asked and said: I’m fine with whatever happens, or wherever I am next year, or I’m here for now. If they are mentally checked out with one foot out the door, it doesn’t really matter the reason, they aren’t going to be all in.

For me, he is more important to the future of the team than Risto, and thus should be protected over Risto. He may not be a better player but Risto has one year on his contract and I think it’s pretty obvious that he doesn’t want to be here. If you are ignoring the contract situations in your evaluation, then you aren’t evaluated the situation properly. (And I’m not saying you personally, what I’m saying is for anyone who scoffs at the idea that Risto could be left exposed.) If the idea of loosing one year of Risto for nothing is too earth shattering, then my answer is to trade him for something. Anyway, I think all this talk could be pointless. There will be roster turnover. Every time Adams opens his mouth he is talking about moving forward with guys who WANT to be here. I’ll see who is on the roster when the expansion draft rolls around.

Clark Kent = Super Man Owen Power = Super Power
-
Sure. Though in my mind Dahlin-Borgen, Power-Joki makes a lot of sense too. Its not a huge problem, but limits roster flexibility a bit. Mostly just unlucky that in a year where Sabres won the lottery most of the great prospects are D (and at that LD).
-
You need to account for the players that those guys would displace from the Sabres’ roster. Salaries of Brown, Kempe, Vilardi, and Turcotte vs Salaries of Eichel, and the 3 other players that would have been making at least the league minimum.
-
Oh, gotcha. Also Buffalo would save more on the salary cap. Probably closer to $3M+
-
You are asking for too much. Even more than you say you would need. Check your math.

I think he’ll make a hire on June 24th. 😉

Bryson is exempt. He is not eligible for the expansion draft because anyone with less than 3 seasons of pro experience is exempt. Bryson has played only 2 pro seasons. @bob_sauve28

Usually the higher weight is right and the lower ones just haven’t been updated. When in doubt, elite prospects is probably most reputable. Or just the info from the player’s actual team site.
-
Yeah, twins actually. But it’s like a Twins Schwarzenegger/Devito situation. Poor Andrew just got what was left over. Kidding. No relation as far as I know.
-
I like Chris Peters. He has a hockey prospects podcast that’s pretty good.

He is already 215 lbs! If he still has lots of filling out to do, he’s going to end up 240.
-
Yeah, Bryson, Johnson and Samuelsson are ?s, but still good prospects. It would just be stacking a lot of prospects at the same position. Not saying it’s the worst thing, but it’s not ideal.
-
If the Sabres are good, I won’t care that they are missing out on prospects x, y, or z. When I start looking at the prospects who might be available at their pick, I’ll care how good they are.
-
Didn’t mean it as such with the S word. What do you mean by there being different boards in each draft room. I’m not talking about each scouts’ and Adams personal board. I’m talking about the Sabres final board that they go to the draft floor with. That’s the only one that matters.
-
Basically how I feel as well. If they are both great, it will be ok though, even on different pairs. Find a partner who compliments each. Skate the 3rd pair low mins. Give both Dahlin/Power lots of special teams time. It does kind of limit flexibility though.
-
3 year rebuild might be a prerequisite to becoming Sabres GM. At least the forwards in the 2022/23 drafts look great. Even great D prospects usually take a few years to get good, especially big guys.
-
Early in the year I think most thought he had great physical tools but was a little raw in areas. I really do think Power has improved a lot throughout the season. I won’t be sad if Buffalo picks him, but it is a strange fit. Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson, Bryson, Johnson - all good/great LHD prospects. Maybe Dahlin could shift to the right side. I know he has done it outside the NHL.
-
If Eichel and Reinhart are traded, and Powers is the pick at #1, it might be a long rebuild. Read up on those great forward prospects in 2022 and 2023.
-
What? That makes no sense. If we are going to get stupid weird, then maybe Power will be #1 on their board but they’ll pick someone else. Now I’m doubting that they’ll pick Power even more! You talked me into it! I don’t know what scouts would say today, but I actually thought he was a little raw, especially defending in transition.
