  1. I have wondered how many people overlap on individual gun rights and defense spending (while arguing the reason to gun rights is protection from the government)
  2. I was driving through Batavia so I stopped at Angotti's for convenience (I couldn't remember the name so I said Beers of the World).
  3. Here's the problem though, and I don't think anyone has touched base on this. You give everyone a gun (concealed carry license) and I absolutely believe based on common sense that homicide rates go up. Think of it this way, the emotion of anger is a deep, intense, and a typically short-term emotion. People do a lot of stupid, violent in that short burst of rage that they normally wouldn't do when given the time to calm themselves. Now, throw in a gun in those situations and see what happens when enraged people make a split second decision. Some bar fights turn into bar shootings. Some domestic violence turns into domestic homicide. It's known that the majority of suicide cases occur when someone makes a sporadic decision to kill themselves when the opportunity is there to do so. What says homicide rates don't increase when given the same exact outlet for your anger/sadness? Maybe I'm a pessimist, but there isn't much you can do to stop these mass murders. These instances of violence are thought out, fully planned, and prepared for. These tragedies aren't drummed up in someone's head overnight. But when looking at gun-related violence in general, widespread gun toting is a can of worms I hope never opens.
  4. Excellent. I will definitely trust your evaluation (and Esquire's).
  5. Looks like a cool club, but $69 a month is way outside my college budget.
  6. As I was reading through the posts above yours, I immediately began to think of this Youtube video. Good looks, I'm glad someone posted it. I agree, he makes some very valid points. In general, I understand the value of a pistol, a shotgun, anything that is used in hunting or personal protection. But AK47s, M16s, Uzis, anything automatic has no value. And unlike baseball cards, it is potentially much more dangerous to collect automatic guns than a piece of cardboard. I'm just speaking in general, not specifically mass murders.
  7. I wish there was a way to sample multiple whiskeys without buying bottles... From this list, can you come up with a top 3?
  8. Whiskey article from esquire.com: 10 Great Underrated Whiskeys Here's the link: http://www.esquire.com/food-drink/drinks/a36514/10-underrated-whiskeys/ The author goes into detail on why each whiskey listed is underrated, but if you just want to know which whiskeys made the list here they are: Evan Williams Black Label Buffalo Trace Old Grand-Dad 114 Wild Turkey Rare Breed Booker's Larceny George Dickel No. 12 High West Campfire Breuckelen 77 Whiskey (White Wax) Jameson Gold Reserve Has anyone tried all 10? Do you disagree with any that made the list?
  9. Stopped by Beers of the World. Grabbed some Schneider Weisse Tap 4
  10. Thanks for the resume tips everyone. Most of it seems like common sense (maybe not that common seeing as how you have had multiple issues with elementary level errors). I will be sure to avoid those errors
  11. As someone who is about to join the career force (graduating next spring), I'm almost glad this is what the field is looking like right now. Really, no follow up thank you emails? I always thought that was standard operating procedure. For those of you who are involved with the hiring/recruiting process, what are some things that stand out to you on a resume? What do you look for? Is there a minimal GPA requirement? How helpful can studying abroad be? What are the benefits to someone with a Masters? I figured I should take this opportunity to learn from others mistakes
  12. There were a few nights studying abroad in Paris where I ended up taking the metro at 5:30 am when it opened to get back to school. In fact, those were nights when there was a boat party! Fun times.
  13. Yeah the study is interesting to say the least. Like they admit in the story, it's a running tally of arrests of NFL players that the media picks up on. They can be innocent or guilty, and there could have been a few arrests made to lesser-known players that they didn't pick up on (although in today's media age, I doubt anyone went unscathed post-Twitter era).
  14. It's actually lower... http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/13/upshot/what-the-numbers-show-about-nfl-player-arrests.html?_r=0&abt=0002&abg=1
  15. In an incident involving beach chairs, you can't let it combust into this. This whole situation is ridiculous
  16. This made me laugh. Anyways, here are the facts: https://www.facebook.com/WaltonCountySheriff/photos/a.116730601492.107565.114456836492/10152863568136493/?type=1&permPage=1 On Saturday night deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Winston lane at Inlet Beach in Walton County, Fla in reference to a battery. When they arrived deputies spoke to the caller and learned three boys had been fishing on the beach when the suspect, later identified as Buffalo Bills Offensive Line Coach Aaron Kromer, and the suspect’s son confronted them over the use of beach chairs left by a beach access. Victims told deputies Kromer grabbed their fishing pole and threw the pole into the water and then pushed one of the boys to the ground and punched him in the face. It was stated Kromer then told the boys to return the chairs to where they found them. The victim stated Kromer also told him if he reported him to the police he would kill his family. Kromer was subsequently arrested early Sunday morning on a misdemeanor battery charge and transported and booked into the Walton County Jail. He has since been released on bond.
  17. True, but what elementary student is going to say "Hey guys, you know this is weird right?" Between trying to fit in with peers and not knowing how few countries do this sort of structured exercise, a student wouldn't have a reason to sit during the pledge. And by the time they're at the secondary level, it's ingrained into them. I, personally, am not on one side or the other. Is it weird? Yeah, but I'm sure I would never deny doing the pledge again if in a situation where the pledge is done.
  18. Bradford won't even be healthy for Buffalos matchup against Philly as far as I'm concerned.
  19. I have read various articles with studies that indicate exactly what you are saying here. Not only should Americans be given and take more vacation (health purposes), but after 35 hours a week relative productivity efficiency decreases. I don't think changes will happen anytime soon though.
  20. This sounds right up my alley. I can't find a local location distributing it though. Is it only in the south?
  21. Like I said, I probably interpreted it in the way I wanted it to be convened. He very well could have, and probably was, pushing the agenda you mentioned above. I like having this conversation (not that I like the topic) because it needs to be had.
  22. I didn't think he was speaking to the Ray Rice case specifically when I watched the show initially. I thought he was speaking towards domestic violence in general after the Ray Rice case came to the public's attention. I could be wrong and maybe I morphed his words to coincide with my own argument (it very well may be the case). Of course, there's no defending Ray Rice or the FSU QB. I sure am not trying to defend them or any other offender.
