  1. Is anyone here going to the game? I'll be in section 136
  2. Out of this list, I would put MIA and DAL in the "good" pile. Carson started off great last year but I think we all know the status quo on him now. Alex Smith is the definition of mediocre in my eyes and it's too bad Cutler wouldn't waste his "elite" talent with poor drive and leadership. While I agree with you, that is a pretty bad argument to make... "If you don't agree with me then you can't have a voice!"
  3. I don't know what you do for a living, but it sounds like something I couldn't do myself. I would imagine you have a hard time seeing humanity as still being human every now and then.
  4. It's funny, when that video involving Sanders and the two speakers trying to overtake his speech went viral, a poster or 2 on here said at the time that it may end up working in his favor. I think it did just that. He didn't have security escort them out, and he let them say what they had to say. With his civil rights background to boot, I think he picked up some support from minorities that he might not have had prior to the video. This is all conjecture by me of course, but it is something to think about. I like the guy, but I need to do more research on him (as well as every other candidate in the race in each party).
  5. Looks like the video was taken down. I did see the excerpt of Cris saying that though. Unfortunately that is the sad state of NFL players and "their crew."
  6. I pushed mine back a few extra days. Once it is an hour before the scheduled install time a notification will pop up which will let you delay it by another 2 days. I did this twice before I decided to install and update.
  7. Good points. It's funny, one of the reasons I joined this site was to follow this thread and avoid the low information voter classification. I feel like everyone here contributes intriguing points of view and allows me to think of politics in a different light. Just a year ago, I had a completely cynical approach to politicians (they're all hacks, the presidential election means nothing because there will always be gridlock in a bipartisan system, super PACs bug me, yada yada yada). Now, not everything has changed (I still feel like the system creates too much gridlock) but I see the importance of being up to date on issues and getting to know policy makers who are supposed to be representing us, the common people.
  8. Very interesting. As someone who identifies himself as a centrist, Trump's messages don't resonate with me at all. I think the issue is, is that I don't know his policies and I don't think he has been very up front about his solutions besides building a wall and forcing Mexico to pick up the tab. To me, he's all gusto with no substance. And with his liberal background, do we even know where he stands today on other issues besides immigration?
  9. The Ben Carson bits had me dying
  10. Interesting! I was simply looking to see if your view on gov't mandates were universal or if individual circumstances dictated a different perspective in regard to intervention. Much appreciated!
  11. Catching up on the discussion and as I was reading through this, I immediately thought of the parallel to climate change. So d4rk and Neo (and anyone else who wants to chime in), what say you about climate change? Do your stances about government mandates extend to other issues such as climate change, or is it a case by case basis? Does the American public need to be more informed on the topic or do we have enough information in our hands already? Does the government have a duty to protect us from ourselves in this instance? Is "bottom up" an option in a case such as this where there may be a point in the future where conditions aren't reversible? Sorry if I derail the conversation currently happening but I wanted to bring this up when these points were recently made on another topic. I think it speaks to individuals and their views on public policy in general. I am interested in seeing if it transcends multiple topics.
  12. Bravo. I appreciate the insight through the lens of Muslim faith (and as others have said, it is more similar than different). The distinction is quite clear to me now.
  13. For the next preseason game, I'm looking for Tyrod to do what he did on Friday but make just a few more throws from the pocket. Those 2 throws down the sideline should have been caught (at least the one to Marquise should have) which were the only plays that kept him from having a near-perfect outing. If he delivers a few from the pocket against Cleveland, I think Rex would be elated to start him.
  14. Interesting! Thanks for the insight. Since this thread is pretty active right now I'll ask a question I've been pondering recently: How does one balance free will and "God's plan"? Where does one stop and another start?
  15. Black Boss porter. Polish beer. I dig it
  16. That's how I always interpreted it. I always imagined it as Him setting the rules and hitting the start button rather than moving everyone/everything around like chess pieces.
  17. After tonight, I wonder if the Browns scrimmage next Tuesday will determine who gets the first crack next week between EJ and Tyrod
  18. EJ isn't getting any help out there (not that it really matters, he was screwed once Tyrod and Cassel did what they did). 2 quick snaps, 2 drops.
  19. Darby looks like a young McKelvin tonight. Can stick with his assignment but isn't making a play on the ball. It will come sooner or later though. It's better this way than if he had ball skills but couldn't cover
  20. Tyrod's threat to run on the read option opened up huge holes on the inside for Bryce. Very interesting dynamic he brings to the offense. His first 2 deep balls should have been caught too. Cassel was very steady and stuck to throws underneath, just as advertised
  21. It's gameday! Here's 5 players to watch tonight (according to buffalobills.com): Matt Cassel Ronald Darby Marqueis Gray John Miller Cedric Reed I struggle with watching the preseason. Last year I went to the Bills-Bucs game where McCown went 13-16 passing and the starters were down 27-10 at half or something to that effect. Obviously they went on to have completely different seasons but I don't know what to take seriously (offensive struggles) or what to disregard (an opposing quarterback going 13-16 on our healthy defense). I think I'm going to simply disregard the results completely. It won't effect my outlook on the season unless there's injuries
  22. I'm very glad I joined these boards and have kept a close eye on this thread. I feel like I learn something every single day. Great discussion across the board. I agree with all of this. This is something I have never really considered personally. Good thoughts and it does make me ponder what I value and where education falls on that list (very high). Completely agree. My younger brother is currently in high school and trying to adjust to Common Core. It isn't going very well. From what he has told me, Common Core teaches specific methods to answer various math questions and if you don't follow the method, your answer is incorrect because the path you took to that answer isn't the method they taught you. For example, they may ask you what 9+6 is, but you must follow the "Base 10 System" to arrive to that answer for it to be correct. Basically, they make you decompose the 6 into 5+1, take the 1 and add it to the 9 to make it a round number of 10. Then you add 10+5 to get to 15. It's absolutely absurd, has zero use in the real world, and if you simply have the wherewithal to know 9+6=15 and leave it at that you get the answer wrong. I think the whole system is an absolute scam and any state who follows Common Core principles is actually hindering students and filling their heads with complex methods for simple solutions. It isn't efficient, it isn't teaching them anything, and it's wasting valuable classroom time.
  23. Awesome, I share many of his sentiments. And really, what is the rush for people to claim "their guy" when the coaches haven't even figured it out yet themselves? So you can say I told you so? There's just no reason to have a horse in the race when we all win if any of the horses has a great showing when the games matter. Now, going to practice and speculating which horse is in the lead is a natural thing to do being a fan of the team and wanting to see success, but denouncing the other horses because you pick your favorite prematurely doesn't really get you anywhere.
  24. I couldn't agree more and think the religious parallel is a good way to present the argument. As far as economics goes, I think of it this way... while I couldn't begin to put a time table on the obsolescence of gas and coal, wouldn't it be in the best interest of the U.S. to add alternative energy to their "financial portfolio" and diversify their holdings so to say? I believe change is coming in the way we think about energy and my generation seems to care about the footprint we leave on this finite world. It's simply the responsible thing to do. Let's develop technology ourselves and be on the frontier of new emerging markets
