Ennis is a candidate then. Decent production, 25 years old and a fixed cost till 2019. Does Grigorenko have value at this point?

There's nothing listed there that the Av's would be interested in, maybe Girgensons. The AV's aren't rebuilding so I doubt they are interested in prospects & question marks at this point.
-
If you were the Av's, what would you ask for? If I'm the Av's GM I want NHL players in return. The Sabres don't have any to give. If O'Reilly is as good as people think than why would the Av's even consider letting him go? Cap is not an issue, MacKinnon will be a RFA and they can always dump Iginla and Stuart if they want to create more room.
-
Are you willing to pay $8 mil a year and give up a handful of assets for O'Reilly? It's unlikely he's hitting the UFA market. He's a good talent, just not worth a franchise altering investment, IMO.

There are millions of hard working Americans who are busting their and are unable to get ahead. Any help that can given to them should absolutely be given. Working hard guarantees you nothing. It's offensive to try and paint a stigma on to all who work a minimum wage job. Are there those that play the system? Absolutely. I doubt that percentage is even close to being as high to the percentage of wealthier individuals who cheat the IRS.

IMO, Vanek is a prime example of a player not being able to live up to expectations, realistic or not. Vanek will always be connected to July 1st, 2007 and the RFA offer from the Oilers. He was never able to live up to being the player the Sabres kept and the inflated offer the Sabres decided to match. The player being the same but the circumstances around 07.01.07 and the contract being different I would guess the perception would be different as well.

I think we all knew it wasn't hockey! I jest, Congratulations!

Great news for the Democrats and the 2016 Elections.

Great point! A really great point. Much too often police look to be confrontational in situations instead of reading the situation and finding a peaceful resolution. Not just in huge issues like what is going on in Baltimore, it's how they handle everything from routine traffic stops to higher tension conflicts. The first instinct should be to resolve a conflict, much too often the police do not show the patience needed to allow a situation calm down instead of fueling escalation.

The goal should be to treat all people as "human beings." As a society we don't. We can list the "societal problems", we need to address the core issue which is a lack of common decency and respect for all races. What does single moms and percentage of black men in prison have to do with police offers continually killing unarmed black men? Why does it seem that the conversation always get steered into that direction? It's as relevant as talking about why every time the news shows a man charged with child porn that man is white? Or why every time I get a flyer regarding a sex offender moving to the neighborhood that man is white? Why is the percentage of sexual predators seemingly 100% white? It's a valid question, yet has as much to do with police murdering young black men as single moms do.

If you want to go back to the NHL glory days of offense all you need to do is address the goal-tending. Watch NHL classics, athletic goaltenders where few and far between. If you want to increase scoring don't let goaltenders workout, not even a treadmill and after each game they must consume a 12 pack of beer, a pint of whisky and smoke cigars. All this on top of a high fat diet and you will have the slow lethargic goal-tending of glory days gone by and teams will be scoring 6-7 goals a night.

I am going to guess that the percent of single black women raising children on their own would drop if the police would stop murdering the fathers of their children. Just a guess.

Last night PBS ran a special on the atrocities at Kent State back in 1970. National Guardsmen firing on and murdering 4 unarmed students. A sickening aspect were the interviews from that time were people thought the students deserved to die. That is not an "America" I ever want to go back to.

What's going on in Baltimore is the next logical step in the people's reaction to continually have their sons, brothers and fathers murdered by the police. In the next city the reaction will be worse. And we all know there will be a "next city." Maybe it will take an entire city burning to the ground for the rest of the country to get the message. Someone mentioned "peaceful protests," that doesn't work. MLK spoke of peaceful protests and what did it get him, he was killed and racial inequality is still prevalent today. I have no problem with the young men and women who are out there on the streets of Baltimore letting their emotions, anger and frustration be seen and heard. It's not about one man being killed by the police. it's about all the young men killed by the police and all the injustices heaped upon a part of this population simply because of the color of their skin. If there is any shock in what's happening in Baltimore it is not that it is happening but why it hasn't happened sooner.

His "last several years?" The Bruins won the Cup four seasons ago and were in the Finals two seasons ago along with four 100 point seasons over the last six full seasons. Of course there are no "guarantees" , if I'm an Oilers fan I am extremely excited about Chiarelli's track record.

Size and grit with talent is not as attainable. We're not talking about a scorer versus a banger here. If the choice is between two highly talented prospects and one is slightly more "talented" and the other is more "physical", I'd take the more physical kid. For years on this board when i mention the idea of a player with size, toughness and a great deal of talent, posters reacted like I was talking about the Yeti. IMO, Eichel is the more valuable prospect. Back to the point, I can see how a GM of the Bruins for the last nine years can see things similarly. As much as it would disappoint me, Chiarelli passing on McDavid for Eichel would be going against the grain and could be a move to jump start a stalled franchise. Following the draft guides has gotten the Oilers nowhere. You bring in a GM like Chiarelli because he can build a contending team. If I'm Chiarelli I looking to build a winner, in the end that is all that matters.
-
I am going to go out on a limb and guess the main reason the Oilers hired Chiarelli is that they want to model their team after the Boston Bruins. I can easily see Chiarelli looking at the two and preferring Eichel. Add that with the miserable failure the Oilers have been with the drafting according to Hoyle mentality they have had, it shouldn't be surprising if the Oilers do draft Eichel #1. I can see it as an easy sell to ownership and the fans. The two players are close enough in talent where taking the guy who may be rated #2 but fits the type of team you want to build much better makes a ton of sense. To be 100%, I would be disappointed if the Oilers did draft Eichel #1.

Here's the new Joker (Jared Leto) for the upcoming DC Comics movie "Suicide Squad."
-
If this has been mentioned in another thread and I missed it I do apologize. With Chiarelli now in charge of the Oilers, what are the chances that McDavid is not the #1 pick. I would think that being in Boston that Chiarelli has had a pretty good look at the kid and taking into consideration the type of teams he had in Boston, it would make sense that Eichel is more of a Chiarelli type player. So, what are the chances McDavid ends up a Sabre without the need of a trade?

Good job to those who picked the Ducks and Rangers and nailed the number of games. This is going to be a tough contest.

Make certain penalties like high sticking, elbowing, boarding and slashing reviewable.
