Pretty much what all GM's should practice in a draft. If you draft based on need and not on best player available, your team will suffer.

Tim Kennedy forgot it was a privelage to play in the NHL and the Sabres gave him the boot.

When I hear 12 I think of Brad Richards. Buff wisely stayed away from that. Yes, different GM and a newbie owner at the time, but I really do not think the Sabres will offer 12 to Stamkos.

Of course it's better for Stamkos to take the shorter, higher paying deal. I just feel 12 mill is too much. Could possibly hurt the Sabres in a few years. And I really don't like the chance of that happening.

Meaning wtf?! That would be my reaction. If I were a GM, good thing I'm not, my max would be 10 million. Don't feel he's worth 12, and it may hurt the Sabres in a couple of years when others have to be re-signed.

And when he promised his old team I'm quite sure he told them they are not one of the teams he will consider. Vesey will probably give the Sabres a yes or a no by Friday. And if it's a no Murray will go w/ a plan B which he already has in place. Have to be good at chess to be a successful GM. Thinking 2 moves ahead.

His Dad may be surprised and have the belief his son is sticking w/ his plans to wait for free agency, but here's something people, not saying you guys, have to consider. Vesey is 23. He's not a kid anymore. At an age where decision making is his. Vesey will be responsible and take opinions from others into consideration, but it's still his decision.
