I don't know how I feel about this. If Vancouver is moving Demko you'd think they'd want a goalie back but I don't think Comrie moves anyone's needle. That means UPL, Levi, or Portillo. I dont think Portillo has much value right now at all so it comes down to UPL or Levi. If Vancouver is blowing it up, as they seem to be, Levi is more in their timeframe than Buffalo's who are ready to need a goalie today. So that makes this sort of trade a choice between UPL and Levi. Levi is a bag of magic beans that may or may not ever grow into anything. He's also short and the list of great, short, goalies in the modern NHL is very...short. UPL is starting to show his value but he's still very much unproven and not a given. Call him a sprouted magic bean. One that could root or just as easily wither. Making this trade would either give them Demko, Comrie and Anderson or Demko, UPL, Comrie and Anderson with another move or two to be made. The Sabres would probably prefer to move Comrie in this scenario but as I said, I don't think he jingles Vancouver's bells unless he's the throw in along with something else major. I also dont see them moving UPL for this year's version of Demko who would then need to immediately be much better than he has. Basically, I don't think this is a trade that gets made because I don't think it makes as much sense as the TV guys want it to make.

About 18 months ago I think one could have acquired Luke Schenn for a wooden nickel. Now Vancouver fancies a first round choice for him. That is hilarious and any GM who makes that trade needs to win the Cup this year. No excuses. Hence, he wont be a Sabre.

At this point, all I want is another defensive D-man. If they can make a hockey trade for Mitts I'm listening but I need to know what it's for. If they can make a hockey trade for Skinner I'm also listening because I want out from under that contract if possible and he's Robin, not Batman. I don't think either of those things will happen. Olofsson I'm neither here nor there about. I like his shot obviously and that will always have value to a team on a PP unit. I feel like he's not a guy we will be re-signing long term though so if there's a deal to be made involving him to make the team better and open a spot for one of the kids I'm ok with it. It may be that he just walks at the end of the day but I don't like that asset management. My issue with the deadline is IMO, making the playoffs will be huge for this team mentally and the experience everyone will gain from playing meaningful games through March and into April will be massive. This is why I'm not moving guys for strictly futures. If it's hockey deal that helps us now AND later then yeah let's do it. If it's just moving people to gather more picks or guys that won't be NHL ready for 2-3 years then I'm not interested. The only exception to that is Anderson and it's ONLY if Anderson wants to be moved. Even with that you wouldn't be doing it for what you're getting back, you're doing it for the lineup flexibility. KNowing that it's might be worthwhile to keep Anderson around as insurance. If Terry wants to spend some money to facilitate cap dumps for guys that we then send to Rochester on waivers in order to acquire something worthwhile then go for it. However, we've talked about that LOTS of times and it doesn't really ever seem to happen.
