I've been saying it since we traded Pominville. We are trying to finish last in the 2014/2015 season. Why? To get our franchise player! How often is a franchise players traded? How often is a franchise player available in free agency? We want McDavid and we will sell off as many good players as we have to until we are guaranteed first overall pick. When we finish last place we are guaranteed 1st or 2nd overall pick. Are we done "tanking"? Our players were never trying to lose games. We play to win so technically we were never tanking. We are trading anyone over 25 who can play hockey so that the team we put on the ice doesn't have to tank, they just lose. I don't understand how people can't wrap their heads around this.

Something tells me Teddy has something to do with this. In my opinion we will be hiring a new coach by next season

Here is my conspiracy theory take on the matter: I read an article about Backstroms grandmother saying he was going to embarrass himself in this tourney. After hearing he was dq'd because of a banned substance gears started turning in my head. Now I'm well aware what we are told is he tested positive from a allergy medication( just taking it will not get you dq'd, but it had to be a certain amount in the urine so a minor amount wouldn't have tested positive). So I'm wondering if it was actually an illegal drug but because the nhl doesn't want eyebrows raised towards their drug testing they called it "allergy medication" Please note this is just my conspiracy theory and I'm not saying Backstrom is a coke head or anything of that nature. Just seems a little bit fishy

I'm not arguing he's playing like $hit, or that he is WAY overpaid. But Cmon, this thread is over the top. Although it's genuinely hilarious. Am I the only one that has the slightest glimmer of hope that he can turn it around? After all, we should all know the only time Leino performs is in the playoffs, and it's not completely his fault were not even close to making them. The good thing about Ville Leino for all those you can't see a silver lining, if everyone on the team played like Leino, we would have more consecutive 1sts then Edmonton. Give the guy some props, he knows how to tank. Girgensons could learn a lot from him!!

I honestly feel for this guy. He signed a contract that not many players could live up to, since he's been in Buffalo he has dealt with injury after injury. I still don't believe he is 100%. I'm sure each and every poster here has been through rough times, stuck in a funk that was hard to get out of. The difference here is he has millions of people watching and scrutinizing him. I know he's making an insane amount of money for it but still, put yourself in his shoes. I've seen him play and maybe all this is warranted, but imagine it was your son. Imagine if it was you we had this thread about. I pray for his sake he has never heard of this site. Maybe he's read some of your comments so now he doesn't even give a ######! I can tell you if I was a player going through tough times I sure wouldn't want a single one of you as fans! Who wants to watch all the best hockey players in the world compete for a gold medal, who wants to see players bringing everything to the table for a 3 week tourney to prove to the world that they are the best? I don't know about you guys, but anytime I see that red and white on the ice I get all warm and fuzzy! I'm looking forward to the olympics alot! Some great rivalries and the next time we get to see this caliber of hockey is in another 4 years. I can look past all the hype and see it for what it really is. I'm not saying every defenseman has a slower learning curve, I'm saying to be a great defenseman takes time! Take a look at subban and karlsson, not the highlights, watch the lowlights. Both of those players play the offensive side great but often have huge defensive lapses. Because of the offense it's over looked to an extent. Myers was never expected to bring in alot of offense and he isn't so when he has a defensive lapse it sticks out a lot more. Judging by his contract I'm guessing the gm is on my side! (even though it was regier)

Ovechkin is looking to keep up his point per game average against buffalo. He has 32pts in 32 games vs blue and gold.

I'm just saying vanek is far from being the only "offense" set to be a UFA, some of the guys might re-sign but nothing is set in stone like you make it out to be

I have faith he will re-sign, 51M over 6 years. Possibly, even more then that. We offered to make Vanek the highest paid player in the NHL. I think they will give him up to 9.5-10M a year over up to 6 to stick around if thats what it will take
