Since day 1 the Mikhail Grigorenko saga has been a whirlwind. With the 2012-2013 season being shortened due to an NHL lockout, teams were only given 5 games to play there prospects, before deciding wether they would activate their entry level contract. Which in my opinion is the root of this problem. In those 5 games he showed some promise. With the situation the sabres were in, they decided to risk it and hope he'd be an impact player that could help them through some of Darcy's infamous "suffering”. Grigorenko's entry level should not have been activated to this day, but it has. He was in the NHL playing 4th line minutes with 4th line(or worse) players.
I think the only reason this kid shouldn't be in the NHL is compete level. His skills, skating ability, strength etc.. are all up to par he just doesn't try hard enough in my opinion.
"I came to North America 3 years ago coming from a home in Russia where I never had a bed, a shower or heat...I work everyday to be the best hockey player I can be so I can provide for my family, have a better life... Because hockey is all I have, my passion, who I am"
Facebook post from Grigsby himself, posted earlier today(sorry no link and not the entire post)
After reading that, I'm hopeful he will listen to management and do what he is told regardless of what he thinks. What he wanted was out the door when he signed the dotted line. Coming from Russia like that, I think he knows that he has to earn everything and nothing will be given to him. Perhaps he thought they way he played at the WJHC would have earned him that shot. That may be why is did the report to juniors, he may want another chance to prove himself.
