I wouldn't even trade him for McDavid NO ONE, he will be viewed as the Connor of Dmen, d-men are on the ice longer, a position of need, he will be the best D man on day 1. Incredible at scouting, outstanding at drafting, acquired O'Rielly, aptly skillful at 'accidentally' tanking. But overall, a train-wreck at asset management. B- If he had another GM job I'm sure that he'd learn his lesson, and would probably be a great GM.

Do you think Montreal would trade their 3rd overall for O'Rielly? I've been as anti-trading O'Rielly as anyone but that seems extremely intriguing.

I think Miller would also add a certain presence in the lock-room. I just wonder what gets it done without burning core pieces. Maybe Girgensons a second in 2019 and the rights to Robin Lehner?

I may be far off, but what do you think about a Ryan Miller/ Ullmark tandem? Too old? Can he be cheap? He was .928 last season.

I just don't want to be like Edmonton and experience misery for high-end talent only to p*** it all away setting back the rebuild years, because of "character" or related trivial, qualitative reasons. This is also part of the reason why I was BEGGING people to give Reinhart a chance. Then he started playing well.... so he's not a bust. Can you imagine if we traded him, selling low, for scraps and watch him become a hall of famer? Not all high-end talent dominates the league at 22, DEVELOPMENT. I think what the Sabres fan-base needs is a little bit more optimism, coupled with just a little bit more patience. 31st place. Yeah, it sucks. But there's so many better options to build a team around young/younger/in-prime pieces than pull a Chiarelli and trade it all away for essentially nothing.

What's the obsession with "third line"? Look at Vegas rolling 4 scoring lines, or Phil Kessel driving the third line. (I guess he's not worth it?) The reality is, it DOESN'T MATTER what number you put on it, your line is generally only as good as your center. Also, do we really need to "drastically change the core"? The "core" is ambiguous enough, obviously something didn't work this season, doesn't mean they're destined to loserdom and we have to trade all of our talent. Why not add some vets? That's right, add. Look at how Colorado bounced back. Parity. Don't blow it up because of a 5 second sound bite of a p*ssed ROR. Risto is still ONLY 23 and has LOTS of development to go through as a D-man. I can't fathom how bad the Sabres would be if they didn't have Risto to stabilize the blue-line. So he's not lightning fast = dispose? I get where you're coming from but we need just a little bit more patience here, IMO.

Montreal Canadiens propaganda to make it seem like they have a single asset that is worth at least Ryan O'Rielly outside of #1 overall pick. (Galchenyuk? Really?) Don't buy into it. Don't run your best players out of town to see ROR PPG on another team (he's more than capable). Add to this mess, not subtract. Goals are easy. You just shoot it into the net. The interdynamics completely change with tallying assists. Assists require hockey iq, timing, spatial awareness, passing at the right place at the right time, patience. With a goal you simply shoot it in the net. Source : play hockey. Assists are profoundly undervalued

You don't trade a guy like eichel, at that age too? You're talking about a potential top 5 guy. Any trade involving him would be a disaster. I didn't realize Chiarelli was a sabresspace poster

He's been pretty damn consistent bro I'm pretty sure having Sam for 3 years then wanting a monster 9 mil contract is less of a good idea than locking him up NOW. my opinion anyway, record my comment in the historical databanks of sabresspace in 5 years and you'll defer to my brilliance

Sabres GM if you're reading this, PLEASE lock up sam for 8 years while he can still be had for cheap. You're essentially paying a PPG player for closer to 4 mil than 7 mil. I don't think Sam's development is a fluke, It would be wise to lock him up NOW. I have no doubt Sam can sustain this PPG pace throughout the duration of his career and better. You may save like 3 mil on the cap and have a super affordable contract going forward. His start may have been a blessing in disguise. Call it risky, call me crazy, but the potential reward deserves a consideration

Lock him up while he's cheap with the bad start. then watch him flourish on the best contract in the league in the near future saving significant cap space

So, do we still want to trade Sam for scraps As Soon As Humanly Possible because the "league's faster". Remember I said don't trade him; he has PPG potential? #toldyouso Who knew, different players develop at different rates

Suspending judgement until I see what this "prospect" can bring. If a 1st comes from this, not a COMPLETE failure and certainly not the worst trade of all time- but any pick that isn't this year is by default awful. I'm looking forward to seeing what the guy can do at the NHL level. Maybe we got lucky and he's a late bloomer (optimism)...or maybe he's a marginal throw-in that'll be run out of the league by the end of the season.... We'll see

Gretzky was not paticularly fast. sometimes players can only produce on the top line, it doesn't mean they're bad players, they can still contribute majorly, but these types of players often look terrible outside a top line role. slower players can thrive on a top line with good players if they both have speed to complement it and Reinhart has the raw skill.
