  1. It’s not that they can’t, it’s that they don’t. There’s nothing stopping a team from doing it. I think it’s pretty clear that’s what the whole league though and which means that’s what Jack’s value actually is around the league.
  2. From Russo: ”And, there’s still that never-ending issue of potentially finding a No. 1 or 2 center, although at least temporarily the Wild have backed out of Jack Eicheltrade talks, sources say, because they’re fed up with the asking price from the Buffalo Sabres for the $10 million star with a neck injury.”
  3. They can protect it both years. If a first is an important part of the deal the team needs to decline.
  4. Any protected first needs to be unprotected in 2023. You have to get a first in one of the next two drafts in this deal.
  5. The optics are absolutely brutal here, though. Also, for the record, the locals who say they are familiar with Jack’s summer routine say this was unusual as he normally skated at a facility outside of Boston.
  6. They traded him to Colorado for Connor Timmins and a 1st
  7. So far the most exciting part of the offseason is wondering which new left handed defensemen on the team will get number 8: Hagg or Butcher!?
  8. Honestly screw it. Stop delaying the inevitable and just send him to Boston for a conditional 7th.
  9. Right I wasn’t disputing that they didn’t get Denault, I was just noting it was half accurate and they’ve added other pieces that likely take them out of the conversation.
  10. But they have indeed added Daddy-O (not sure where that nickname came from but I’m riding with it) along with Martinez, a backup goalie and a couple other smaller contracts.
  11. Vegas signed a few deals today eating up all their cap space so I’m skeptical of their involvement. I think we’re all underestimating the possibility of Jack getting this surgery which could take him out for much of the season and then he just sits the whole thing out and then you’re staring a NMC in the face with a player who has legitimately a quarter of the value he should. And we can all act like a team can just refuse a trade in that scenario but it’d be so bad for the franchise to not deal him. This needs to happen (and there’s still plenty of time for it to happen).
  12. These athletes are putting all kinds of ***** in their body that the FDA probably loses sleep over.
  13. Did you put your arm around him or is he untouchable too?
  14. As a long-time member of the Jake McCabe fan club I’m happy he found a more lucrative deal than many (myself included) expected for him.
  15. That’s correct. He chose to sign a contract. Other players will realize it’s a bad idea to sign a contract with the Buffalo Sabres.
  16. Friedman posted a list of his GUESSES for free agency. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/free-agency-predictions-will-brayden-point-darnell-nurse-extended/ Of note for the Sabres: He lists Buffalo as one of three teams for Freddy Anderson He lists Minnesota for Jake McCabe and mentions McCabe has been skating for three weeks already.
  17. It also places him 37th all-time in points for any player (29th in assists) as well as 26th in games played.
  18. Your original proposal also mentioned a conditional second that becomes a first if they win the cup so I guess that's more likely a second than a first but that's an asset you're missing here in your mentioned proposal. It was that pick that I said made the deal too much. But I also don't believe that any team will let you tell them their two first rounders is worth another team's one first rounder unless it's something like Vegas versus Arizona/Columbus or the like. Vegas would tell you to get lost if you tried telling them two of their firsts are worse less or the same as one from Minnesota.
