I don’t think either are true number one pairing guys and I also think Risto has to go. Not a ton of teams have more than one “first pairing defenseman” so I’m fine with Montour sliding into a first pairing.

He wasn’t getting a max offer last year. He got a grand total of one contract offer - and it was the one he accepted from Golden State. Teams were scared away by his injury and his attitude. He had a few big moments in the finals, though. I think he’ll get a mediocre deal this offseason but better than last. It’s the only team in Canada and operates/is treated as a small market team. “Small market” these days doesn’t just boil down to how many bodies live in your city.

Toronto is 100% a small market NBA team.

I highly doubt it. They probably have to make the call at least 24 hours prior to the draft. The Isles had until June 1st to make the call on whether to keep the 5th overall pick or give it to us from the Vanek deal.
