  1. Yeah Ullmark is having a good year. My only concern about him is everything describes him as 'raw', which implies he has the skills but is years off being a starter. I'd also like to get him to NA next season. I'm really disappointed by Hackett - I would have rather got a third. Especially when Larsson is hardly holding his own in the NHL (i was hoping we would get a serviceable/reliable third line defensive centre with him)
  2. My thoughts exactly. This isn't a team that relies on the goalie; the goalie gets a ton of help from both forwards and d-men. Although as I said before, it would be nic to have a goalie below the age of 23 who looks like they could have a stab at the NHL soon
  3. I'm not saying it is true. I'm saying that the rumour has been going for a while. People said it was why Morrow fought Gleason (Morrow and Ott are good friends). Obviously there is not an accurate source, it isn't like Ott has tweeted "Gleason is a dick, he slept with my wife" and TSN are hardly going to wade into the debate. I think that if a persistent rumour exists then it is weird to purposefully never mention it simply because it doesn't have a source. I am not suggesting it is fact, simply that the rumour exists. The rumour also got more traction last season when Gleason and Ott fought http://www.thebreaka...teve-Ott-s-wife As for 'proof' - here is an article about Ott saying he has a wife called Candice, and hangs out with Gleason, who is a good friend of his: http://stars.nhl.com...s.htm?id=450396 And here is a tweet congratulating Tim and Candice Gleason on having a baby: https://twitter.com/...147244032274432 And here is an article saying Tim has a step child called Layna, coincidentally, Ott also has a child called Layna: http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/print-edition/2010/10/22/tim-gleason.html?page=all
  4. I've heard it a lot from a number of sites. Plus the way Ott plays with Gleason, it wouldn't surprise me. An extension to the rumour is that Gleason was also Ott's best man
  5. By top 4 and cheap i was referring to Sekera. I'm not too fussed about comparing goalie numbers in different leagues, but i appreciate your point. I disagree Sabres couldn't afford to take a chance on that pick. They had 11 in that draft. The goalies you mentioned are ok, but haven't shown much tbh, and I just really want a young pedigree goalie to have faith in (Lehner in Ottawa for example). I agree there is no way to compare a forward to a goalie, but i'd take a solid starter over a solid top 6 forward
  6. The article linked above shocked me by how much homerism there is. Poile pushing for Jones, Lombardi for Yandle etc. It didn't seem like an unbias selection, and I think the USA will suffer. I too would question Quick's ability. He has had two mediocre seasons (and has been pretty awful so far this year) and two great post-seasons. If i was in charge and had to pick between Miller, who is having a great season and has a proven MVP olympic record, and Quick, i would pick Miller for fear of which Quick showed up
  7. I would trade Sekera before Pysyk. I love Pysyk's game No I don't mean pressure will be on him in reality. I mean for me in my mind, and probably mine alone, he will always represent an undesirable move followed by selection of the wrong player. If he pans out that's good but not enough, for him to be a good pick in my mind he must make it to the top 6 comfortably and be better than Fucale, otherwise he will be a wasted pick in my mind He was perhaps expendable, but 3/5 names mentioned have done nothing/almost nothing in the NHL and this is a team starved of (good) veteran players - especially on defence.
  8. Burke/Poile said Howard is third and Miller and Quick are top two
  9. Also we could have had Fucale instead of Compher. In my mind Compher has to most pressure on him to succeed as he cost the organisation the most (a cheap and solid top 4 player or a future all star goalie for an organisation without anything but a 33 year old future UFA)
  10. USA have not taken 2/5 top scorers and 2/4 top goal scorers. It is an interesting tactic at best. Their reasons for not taken Ryan are that he lacks intensity (Burke said he should have picked Jack Johnson in the draft over Burke. Okoposo and Pominville were never remotely considered because their game won't translate to the big ice apparently. Big Buff was considered a defensive liability so not chosen
  11. But the Ashes are already lost :( No you're right there is a big push and welsh-only taught schools are coming back etc. It seems like a waste to me, but the welsh language is hilarious so it would be a crime for it to disappear. I think they are even making pushes to make it compulsory at GCSE (age 15/16 exams)
  12. 90% of my answers were not like anything from the US :P I got Yonkers, New York and New Jersey as the best (although still tenuous) fits
  13. Shoulder to shoulder
  14. Coho is - you have to remove Dmen from the list. Also it is a little midleading as our talent pool is very dilute, so everyone's stats suffer. We're still on target for the 39 point mark roughly, so we could become the worst team in like the last two decades... Teams 29 and 28 have 21 points. Team 30 has 14. The second worst team in the league is 50% better than us :P
  15. Since the lockout the lowest point total has been 56 points (06/07 Flyers). We are on track for 39 points this season. The last team to get 39 points in a season were the 99/00 Thrashers. It was their first season in the league
  16. Varlamov's gf and Downie was the rumour
  17. I agree he belongs in Rochester. However, if we had some centres who could play heavy minutes offensively and defensively then we could give Grigo the easier matchups and let him learn. The fact is he is 2nd on our depth chart in the centre position. Which is scary, but also not his fault
  18. Miller currently faces 38.2 shots a game (on average). Higher or lower under Nolan?
  19. Well John Scott had no priors and his hit was not as bad as Kadris. So in theory 10 games. Sadly this is Shanahan, so 1 game will be my guess
  20. Do Grigo and Z ever get a chance to put what they learned in the press box into practice? They might as well be playing NHL14 this season
  21. They were fired for poor job performance, whilst making a few million a year
  22. Can someone please fill us newer fans in on tr legend and history of this man? If he likes defensively responsible hockey I have a feeling half our team will be sitting. I think Girgenson and Ott are our only capable forwards in their own zone (am I forgetting anyone else?)
  23. So much for Terry wanting this organization to make mistakes... We are now the Oilers, we fire our management and bring in alumni to run it. I'm intrigued what a new gm will do. I hope Devine goes, he has as much to do with running the franchise as DR. The times I saw Nolan coach, I was not impressed I like the idea of Pat being involved. Is there any decent GM out there? Any European ones like the Finish guy for CBJ?
  24. How does 3/149 compare to other teams? Not to mention, there is more to a draft than finding the all star players. You also need to find the supporting cast. Moreover, now the all star teams are voted for that really skews who gets in. I remember when Crosby was 3rd in the racings and he hadn't played a game that entire year
