GAME DISCUSSION THREAD GDT: Buffalo at Toronto (2/21/2013, 7:00pm)

Jeff Russo @JeffRussoWKBW #Sabres Rolston says no Leopold no Grigorenko tonight Is grigo doing something to piss the coaches off? Third straight healthy scratch for the 18 year old...If he isn't going to play, why not send him to juniors -
I thought it was that very team gives permission in the off-season, and sometimes you get permission during the season (e.g. Burke), but usually it is accepted that the management stay with the team for the season. 12 of our next 17 are on the road. We have not had a good road record in some time - trial by fire for RR

GAME DISCUSSION THREAD GDT: Buffalo at Toronto (2/21/2013, 7:00pm)

How dare you put Lord Foligno on the 4th line. Apologise at once. Depressed? Maybe he knows he will get less ice time -
Who would you sit for Brennan? Or whose minutes would you cut down? Brennan has done nothing this season - even on the PP, which is meant to be his bread an butter. I don't want a top 6 that has 4 players 23 or below (Armia, Coho, Ennis and Foligno)
-
My guestimates. Generally from looking at last few seasons and seeing what they put up and in some cases (e.g. Foligno, Coho) making them up for what I think they should get based on being a rookie and sophomore
-
Player - Expected 82 game pointage - On track for (if this were 82 games) Vanek - 70 - 128 Coho - 50-60 - 72 Pommer - 70 - 72 Foligno - 40 - 39 Ennis - 60 - 63 Stafford - 50-60 - 34 Ott - 35 - 34 Grigo - 35-40 - 17 Hecht - 25-30 - 24 Leino - 40-45 - 0 Gerbe - 40 - 13 Scott - 2 - 0 Ellis - 10 - 0 Mccormick - 10-15 - 0 Kaleta - 15 - 0 So looking at the forwards I see that our top 4 are on track for their expectations. Foligno is also doing fine for his rookie year. Stafford is a real problem and is only at about 60% of what he should be. Ott is pretty much on track and leads the NHL in hits. Hecht is doing fine really, maybe a little disappointing but he isn't here for his offense. Leino has been a big disappointment this season and needs to improve his performance on the ice. Gerbe is also a real problem - the guy has never played more than about 63 games, but he is has always been roughly a 40 point-pace player. He is very underwhelming this season. Grigo is also a little slow, but I think that most rookies probably are for their first 25ish games, so I'm not too worried about him. Also our 4th line has been disappointing, by now I would have expected 3-4 goals by them and we have 0. These stats tell me that the worst offenders are stafford, gerbe, 4th liners (particularly Kaleta - even though he has been good at the rest of his game e.g. PK, drawing penalties etc.) and ###### Leino. Generally I think our bottom 6 is the issue, I would want Foligno down on the third line with Ott and the 4th line to have more identity. Ehrhoff - 45-50 - 51 Myers - 35-45 - 16 Sekera - 20 - 20 Sulzer - 20? (this guy is hard to predict - 22 Leopold - 25-30 - 20 Regehr - 15-20 - 8 Weber - 10 - 15 This defence tells me a couple of things; firstly, unsurprisingly, Myers is a huge problem this year, he is batting at 40ish% what he should be. Regehr is also a little low on what I would like, but it isn't the end of the world. Considering we are meant to have a defence that jumps into plays, we clearly lack the talent for that style, I would like another guy who could put up 30+ points instead of Sulzer/Leopold. This way we would have a 45, 35, 30, 20 top 4 and a 15, 10 defensive bottom pair and a 7th man who could put up 20 if he played all 82 points In total, I think this 21 man squad (23 with the goalies) over 82 games (if they all played 82 games, which is impossible) should put up 680-750 points. They are on track for 648 points (take out Vanek and we should put up 610 points minimum but we are on track for 520)

Will we still think this is the right move if the Sabres improve but only make it to 9th spot? If we don't make it to the playoffs and we get another midlevel pick, it will ultimately mean it was pointless to fire Lindy, when they could have let him walk in the summer and become a better hockey club

Wouldn't it be hilarious if we rehired him over the summer -
Guess they took the Rolston news badly
-
I will miss the guy. It was his coaching that ultimately made me a sabres fan. So thank you Lindy. I hope he goes on to have a great career
-
It would be stupid to hire a full time coach now. Over the summer we can talk to way more options
-
Any news on TPegs statement?
-
They said he has prepared a statement to be read out after the presser
-
How are we going to find out what TPegs is saying. I feel really bad for Ruff. This team best respond - they just got a man fired. The sad thing is that I don't see much changing. The players effort just hasn't been here
-
"I don't make absolute statements. I never have and never will" - classic
-
They're on their way down now These things never seem to start on time
-
I dunno, he said something about other plans not having been confirmed
-
Unless they have been interviewing people etc. Adams or Patrick will get it till the end of the season
-
He will probably named interim head coach
-
I think it is sad for him. After 16 years it would have been nice if he could have been in a position to retire or quit rather than be fired. I wonder when he knew - he sounded broken last night
-
OMG.... This makes me feel a little sad
