  1. Pommers needs to start stepping up again. 0 points in 4 games, 2 penalties and the give away in the third that lead to the goal
  2. Urgh...horrible start, good game, horrible end. Pens goals: Amazing tip Crosby tap in Cross crease pass/shot Hoff screening miller I say 2 on the defense, 1 on Miller, 1 lucky We really need to get better.
  3. I really want Pommers to do a stick commercial one day
  4. Gerbe on a shutdown line, interesting. Grigo might find his skill easier to come out against 4th liners He's out for the game according to the NHL preview - either injured or a nearly complete trade
  5. Yeah I am confused by this. If you offered him 3 years 15 mil (I think that keeps him an RFA) that would be an average of $5mil a year, which would be a first and a third. I don't see why they would match - it makes no sense to refuse to pay a guy $5million a year, but agree to match it and have a really awkward year. If they matched it would be 12 months before they could trade him. That is a long time to have someone who doesn't want to be there or the other players don't want to be there
  6. I'd way rather trade Brennan than Pysyk. Brennan has no real place on this roster. Myes, Ehrhoff, Sekera are here to stay, Weber will be resigned and we will probably resign two of Regehr, Sulzer, Leopold, other vet. McNabb will make the jump next year, which would give us 7 D. Pysyk is a lot younger, so in 2/3 years will be ready and will be needed http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/tor130214.html
  7. For someone who infamously starts slow he has 9 points in 12 games. He also only has 1 goal - but I would expect that to increase, as he has 11 30 goal seasons. He is a power forward type player, they start dropping around his level. He might no longer be elite, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a lethal 60-70 point player who can lead a team
  8. Corsi is shots/goals/shot attempts etc. expressed as a rate of 60 minutes. So a positive Corsi means when that player is on the ice more shots are taken against the opposing goalie than their goalie. The quality of competition is the average corsi of the opposing players on the ice when that player is on the ice (so if they are against a negative player, then the competition is easier). Thus, over 60 minutes, when Grigo is on the ice, Miller will have 16 more shots than the opposing goalie. The difference in Grigo's 15.96 and Seguin's 3.4 is not that surprising when you consider how outshot all our lines have been this year. Fenwick stats measure number of shot attempts (including blocked and missed) against opposing goalie/total shot attempts against both goalies. So a value of 1 would mean 100% of the shots were against the opposing goalie and 0% against Miller. So in Grigo's case 40% of the shots are against the opposing goalie and 60% are against Miller, whilst for Seguin it is 50/50 - but Seguin played a full year, so i would bet that the first half was a lot worse than the second half. The best players (e.g. Toews) have a Fenwick of around 0.6 Basically I don't see a huge difference in the players - Seguin got more ice time, but also was better offensively - chicken and egg. I think Grigo is doing fine and I don't think other players are stealing ice time from him
  9. Honestly he doesn't do much on the ice, he is not a liability, but he also isn't lighting the lamp. I don't think Ruff is taking ice time he has earnt away from him. I'm sure that Seguin sat now and again while the 4th liners where on the ice. Over the first 14 games Seguin got 6 points, a -2 and about 12:50 a game, whilst Grigo got 11:12 a game, 3 points and was a -4. All of those stats are fairly similar. Sequin had a Corsi of -3.4 and faced a competition of -0.406 over the whole season, whilst Grigo has a Corsi of -15.94, however he faces a competition of 2.98. But all the sabres face harder competition and are outshot atm 0.493 was Seguin's Fenwick % over the season and Grigo is 0.396 so far. I don't see a huge difference here, as I presume the second half of the season increased Seguin's stats. The major thing I see is that Grigo spends a lot of time in his zone when he is on the ice.
  10. Which player is stealing ice time from him? the 22 year old center with 13 points or the 23 year old one with 12?
  11. Props to the coaching for forcing him to learn defence. He is quite the all round player now - still they don't get a first because of him this year, so they paid quite a lot for him
  12. He had a brief stint of being useful, around the end of the 04 lockout, and has basically done nothing since. Someone used to track how often he was right, last i saw it was around 3% On the other hand, maybe he is in the know the most and trade talks just fall through frequently anyway. Did he definitely say they lost the night before? Nash and Col also played the night before
  13. I love Iginla, but it would take so much to get him, and he probably only has a few really good seasons left. Kane seems like a head-case, i don't like his attitude - he says that the criticism he receives is (partly) because he is black, which just isn't true. Although I loved the guy at the draft and wanted us to move up to nab him
  14. Seguin had like 9 points in his first 25 games and Stamkos had like 11, Duchene has about 10 - and those stats were often padded with a game of 3 points or so. He is doing fine. I consider this season to basically be his training - let him get used to the NHL and start to contribute (dominate ;)) next season
  15. We played the same number of back-ups as other teams - i'm sure most teams cash in against back-ups more than starters
  16. But that is meaningless, we didn't play more back-ups, we just cashed in against the back-ups more.
  17. Our only top 6 forwards who fit their financial needs are Ennis and Foligno. Stafford is too expensive and we won't trade Coho, Vanek, Pommers, Grigo. Top prospect would be Armia, Girgenson, Pysyk or McNabb. So we will be losing 2 of that list. Hard pill to swallow. My guess would be Foligno and Armia would be the final trade, if we get it. If we could use Brennan as the top prospect i would be very happy
  18. How dare the Sabres have a good winning record against the normal number of back-ups any team faces. If we ever needed proof this team has never had a good run and no-one has played well, we have it
  19. We should clean house - get rid of Ruff, Regier, all coaching staff, all medics and Black. Clean start all round. Trade Vanek, Pommers, Myers and Miller for picks in this years draft (I figure we could probably get 4 firsts for them, maybe a little more), give Enroth the reigns and see what he can do under a new coach. Sadly, I think that this will only happen if Pegula is removed as well. So here's to hoping we can put pressure on him to sell. Bring back TG - our best years in the last 2 decades were under his guidance and leadership. The hockey heaven experiment is over. Let's return to the glory days
  20. We are now last in the East
  21. No you can't - stops them being shipped out for being injured
  22. Sekera would be a tough pill to swallow. It would also give us a surplus of forwards. Vanek - Coho - Pommers Ennis - Grigo - Foligno Ott - Reilly - Stafford That would be over 33 million (I gave Coho and Reilly a combined 7ish) in that top 9, not including Leino's 4.5. So that would be over 40 million in our forwards. MIller and a back up would cost 7-7.5, which would leave us 16.5 million to sign 6 D men. After Myers and Ehrhoff, it would leave us 7 million to sign the other 4/5 d men. So clearly, If we trade Sekera for Reilly then we need to lose fowards. We can't have that much salary tied up in the top 9 and we can't have a 4th line worth 7 million. Does anyone have information on Leino? This guy is basically not a sabre in my mind. I know he was skating again recently, do we have a time frame and the cause of it all?
  23. I really like Ennis, i'm just not sure I like him at centre - he plays like a winger in my mind. Also, bar that one really good Stafford chance, he hasn't really set his line mates up for nice positions to score from. I still like the guy though. Ennis has 102 points in 154 games Reilly has 107 points in 223 games If we trade Ennis, I would expect to get a top prospect back. Reilly might be harder to play against and better defensively, but Ennis is the beter offensive player.
  24. Where did that list of teams interested in him come from?
