  1. For the record, I think that Weidman is crazy. MMA is crazy enough, but trying to play again after "breaking" his neck is super crazy. In the video link, Weidman actually says that the surgery scared him (but fighting MMA doesn't). Crazy. I still suspect that football tackles with head first are more impactful, but I doubt that any real studies have been done to settle the matter. You might be right.
  2. In other words, they don't care so much about Jack the person as they care about Jack the asset.
  3. As Jack's doc said, it's important for Jack to stay in shape and keep his motor skills. Playing non-contact should also give Jack a good sense of how much function has returned, to help decide if he truly wants to go ahead with surgery. How many players herniate their discs every year (and we hear about it)? Hopefully this is a rare injury.
  4. Head on head is not the same as head bobble. Head on head is compression of the artificial disc. Being plastic, it probably isn't best to squash down on it. But being plastic, it's smooth enough to allow wobble.
  5. Not only that, but Power would lose his NCAA eligibility too.🙃 (FWIW, BTW, if you say it out letter by letter, put it in *caps*!)
  6. Elliot Friedman's 31 Thoughts Podcast has an interview with Jack's doctor. Why Eichel Wants a Disc Replacement The doctor makes a strong case for artificial disc replacement. I understand the Sabres "conservative" position, but it really doesn't make much sense from a timeline perspective and even a performance perspective. Jack's preferred solution seems ideal. A bit concerning however, Jack's doctor fails to mention that these discs can break down and cause inflammation and pain later in life, often requiring a cleanup surgery. Rarely can something this serious have a perfect outcome. Jack should have another 50-60 years to live; shouldn't Jack have the right to decide what's right for his own body? Maybe like Beasley has threatened to do, maybe Jack will just retire from the Sabres, get his preferred surgery, and then come back in a year or two. Then the Sabres lose-lose. Say what you want about Jack as a captain, but he has the right to do what he thinks is right for his own body, and he's not even a crazy pop diva.

  9. How can we have a Russian 5-man unit when they only drafted 4?...Still the plan seems to go with Afinogenov/Ennis type of exciting players. No more "hardest working team in hockey" allowed in today's NHL.
  10. Darcy's suffering was like getting the chicken pox, and now we're getting shingles.
  11. Maybe he had help, but in an e-mail interview, he displayed fantastic English skills save for an occasional slip-up. Methinks that he could read Shakespeare.
  12. Power seems to skate very well downhill. He shows less dexterity and determination going into the corners in the d-end. He really needs to go back to college and watch some tape of Samuelsson and Bryson. Samuelsson seems like a more complete *D*-man right now. Bryson, as a small guy, learned how to use his speed and positioning to pry the puck away. Not to say that Samuelsson and Bryson are the best, just that they demonstrate some of what Power needs to learn yet. But, with Michigan being such a powerhouse, I worry that Power won't be pushed very hard. Still, his floor seems like a Brandon Carlo with offense. We're clearly overloaded on LD: Dahlin, Samuelsson, Byrson, Hagg, Johnson, Power. And I think that Hagg is worth more than just a bag of pucks.
  13. Danault & Wennberg would be helps.
  14. TP also was friends with and liked Jakob Chychrun, but allowed JMTM to screw up and draft Nylander instead. So much for TP's infernal meddling with the draft. Actually I hope that TP gets his wish. Power seems like the best prospect. It would be nice if we could trade for a top pick (Seattle) to get Beniers too.
  15. What I do here is input my 2 cents, and then see people rolling their eyes, telling me to get lost, dissing my faith, dissing my politics, giving beers and thumbs up to the people opposing me. They say that they don't hate Christianity but then thumbs down anything that I post from the Bible. But anyhow, so far, I haven't see too much dissing on my pure hockey posts; I've never claimed to be a hockey guru. As I've said elsewhere, that's why I came here, to get food for thought. This isn't the only place I look for hockey info. We all know that the hockey world has some major problems. Just look at how many people are complaining about the officiating and director of player safety this year. Talking about the assaults is a valid hockey issue. But my 2 cents were why weren't they reported earlier. I don't make myself a victim. Some of the members of this board are. Today, what I'm doing is showing that I can empathize with these Blackhawks players to some degree. That puts me in their shoes, you know, don't criticize someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes. And in my case, since I thought that I had enough evidence to prove my case, I went straight to the police; and I mean immediately after the event took place. That's more than enough for one day. Go ahead and say what you will. I'll try to restrain myself from posting again on this thread.
  16. Thank you for your kind words. I worry that people are encouraged to go to their superiors exactly because the organization wants to avoid being embroiled in a police matter. Like when a someone is poisoned by an impure drug or dies from something like Vioxx, the person often ends up settling and signing an hush agreement, and then no one else finds out about the problems. There has got to be a better way.
  17. Thank you for showing some sympathy. I'm not attacking the players and calling them children. I'm saying that society puts low expectations on them encouraging them to remain childlike. I am saying that it's normal to be upset about being assaulted and to want some kind of righting of the wrong. I'm not saying that not going to the police makes them sissies. I'm saying that you need to make up your mind soon after the fact to decide the right path. Each player his a right to keep silent. I cannot force him to talk. But if the perp goes on to commit more crimes, the first victim had a chance to stop it. Come on, y'all have seen cop shows where the mob tries to silence witnesses and victims. If people don't come forward, some day we could end up like Central America where many countries are so overwhelmed by crime and gansterism that the government ceases to function. Why is sexual assault such a taboo subject that you are afraid to report it, but you wouldn't hesitate to report someone stealing your newspapers? It looks like the Blackhawks dropped the ball. It looks like these guys' support networks were not functional. Sh%t happens. It's fact of life. Accept what you cannot change and move on. I was victim of another assault, but it was a he said, he said. I had no way of proving my case. So, I gave up. I have faith that God would make things right. That's what I'm saying, don't worry about losing your AHL/NHL career. Do the right thing, and the Lord above will reward you. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. Don't take matters into your own hands, take them to God's Court (and maybe the local justice system too). As one preacher said, "the Bible is full of laws against killing, but there are no laws against being killed." Jesus and many prophets and apostles ended up being killed. I have faith that whatever happens to me, God has my back in the end, even if that means an express ride to heaven. But it would be nice if we could all (myself included) be more civil.
  18. You're still attacking me and being mean to me. If it quacks like a duck...if the shoe fits...you know. Be the change that you want to see. Don't attack people if you think that attacking people is wrong, regardless the situation. So, like what is the line for you? Internet forums, be nasty as hell, but say, at the office, only use passive aggression? Wait until you're the boss to exact retribution? What about your neighbor? Your friends? Your spouse? When is it OK to be a jerk to other people. Really. Just answer me that?
  19. America is in the Bible. Just not in name per se. So, like, I'm not going to get sucked into that kind of debate. OK. I've quoted a passage relevant to the situation. Nothing else belongs in this thread. The moderators don't like it. Most of you have made it clear that you hate Christianity. What else is there to say?
  20. Let me get this straight. You all are complaining about a guy who is assaulting hockey players. You defend the guys for not coming forward because they were afraid of the organization. I tell you that I've been a victim of assault, and what do y'all do? You attack me. Acting just like you said that the Big Organization would do to the hockey players. So what are y'all doing here? Rubbernecking? You don't want solutions. And you're currently acting exactly like you say is doing bad. Ever seen a mirror before?
  21. Then why are we even discussing what is at least three degrees of separation hearsay? Players told a coach who told TSN which wrote an article. We can all agree that sexual assault is wrong. But we're not even sure of the details. We shouldn't be assuming the guy is guilty until a jury says so. And I know that predators target the weak, but these were not little children. We need to stop infantilizing adults. The same even holds true for teens. In Jewish tradition, at 13 a person should know right from wrong. If you're 23 and value your AHL career more than reporting an assault to the police, then something is wrong. Quoting the Bible is nothing that I will ever be ashamed of. Quite the opposite. You have your ways, but they are not God's ways.
  22. I was assaulted. I went straight to the police. And the police did NOTHING. But at least I tried to go the proper route. I'm actually somewhat sympathetic to the whole defund the police movement; I don't agree, but I understand the motivation. If someone hits my car, I call the police. If some kids shoot BBs at my dog, I'm calling the cops. The Bible actually says that if a woman is being raped and doesn't cry out for help, then she is not be held guiltless. There's even a story in the Bible of two priests attempting to rape a woman, and she place her faith in God and cried out for help. The priests tried to frame her for another adultery, but she was proven true. And the priests were stoned to death for attempted rape and perjury. I do talk hockey. 1. Draft Power #1 2. Trade Eichel for Ana #1(draft Johnson), Comtois, and another high pick. Eichel's damaged goods. Neck injuries can be brutal. 3. Trade Reinhart to Seattle for #1 pick (draft Beniers), and agreeing to take Okposo. Don't take back more established players who will get taken by Seattle in Expansion Draft. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. But this time we have three guys who are big players on a college team who play well together and in 1-2 years can step in and make a difference.
  23. I think that the balance of power wasn't so much physical as it was, "This video coach is really important to the team. We're on a Stanley Cup run. We can't upset the apple cart." Hierarchical. The complaints should have been handled better by Chicago. But, why don't these news reports ever give details? A defendant has a right to face his accuser and a right to know what the charges are. Like someone intimated above, I'm surprised that the hockey players just didn't deck the guy if he was trying to force himself on them. Or was it more like a date rape kind of thing or even just a "pass" that went awry? If a football player can come out as gay, we'd be kidding ourselves to think that there are no gay hockey players. Now the Michigan conviction seems to carry some weight and indicate a pattern of behaviour. But the Michigan case was different in that the he was the coach in a position of physical and hierarchical power over someone who is legally presumed to be a minor (what is the age of consent in MI?). Law enforcement is all over anything that smacks of minors. Maybe there is a presumption that adult hockey players can take care of themselves. But what stopped the players from coming forward? Really. A certain Bill has enough conviction to risk ending his career over a personal medical choice. Why can't adult hockey players go to the police themselves if they really feel that wronged? That's my problem with this situation. Don't accuse someone years later while allowing bad apples to continue their abuse while you make up your mind that maybe you should report it.
  24. You seem to be privy to a lot of the inner workings, or is it just supposition? I would hold suspect anyone who was a willing partner to a disaster. If I ran a factory that made widgets and our line equipment was trashed, and if our QC was trash, and our sales were tanking, I would protest quite a bit if my boss refused to listen and the board refused to listen, or I would leave. I want to be part of a solution, not the problem. I've been there before. Even had a good boss, but the director sucked. I stayed too long. While I think that Granato improved the team and has some good things to offer, I would be really hesitant to hire him as HC if I didn't know behind the scenes that he was stridently trying to right the ship. The world is overfilled with "yes" men.
  25. Can someone explain to me how the assistant coach to Kruger comes in and totally changes things. What the freak did Donato do when he was an assistant coach? Why didn't he have more of an influence then? Was Kruger just shutting out every other voice? Why do I seem to be the only person asking this question? Am I really that clueless on how NHL coaching staffs work? [Yes, I know that is an invitation for others to slam me. Whatever.]
