  1. O'Reilly's contract looks better with each passing signing.
  2. I agree, and I hope Botterill agrees. I might absolutely be fooling myself into just feeling better, but I increasingly feel that if Botterill was going to accept a pupu platter for O'Reilly, he'd have done so by now. It'll be a good trade, or no trade.* *I reserve the right to completely reverse this position if a trade is made and I don't like it :lol; Yea, but who doesn't?
  3. Dimitri Filipovic‏Verified account @DimFilipovic 15h15 hours ago More At this rate by the time John Tavares announces his decision he’ll be old enough to get a long term contract from the Kings
  4. Or was told by Botterill he'd be the starter until Ullmark beats him cleanly. Something along those lines.
  5. Apparently he believes less in Ullmark than much of the fan base. I can't imagine this is anything other than chasing a chance to start.
  6. I speculated on Sheary. I HAVE SOURCES DAMMIT!!!!! :p
  7. Assuming he has made up his mind...If it's Toronto or San Jose I'm not sure what's taking so long. If it's Tampa, he may have to wait for them to clear out cap space. Of course, he may also simply have not made up his mind yet.
  8. I love Thin Man. Both the beer and the location. But last time I was there, I was devastated to see the no longer had the Bavarian pretzel appetizer. It was a sad day.
  9. As Liger said, the team hasn't been publicly shopping him. But there are other viable explanations for trading O'Reilly. It could be that Botterill sees him as one of the few tradeable assets to give the team a different on-ice makeup. He might want be worried about the backside of the contract. He may not think we're a contender until Mittelstadt takes over 2C duties and Dahlin matures, at which point O'Reilly will be 29-30 and (if they for some reason wouldn't want him at wing) a very expensive 3C. Or maybe he simply says we were freaking terrible, I'll listen on anything. I'm not saying I agree with those possible reasons, just that there are a lot of reasons for exploring trades outside of locker room stuff.
  10. Only $2.75M? That's a good figure. Unless Ullmark sets the world on fire, our total goalie expenditure for the life of this contract is going to be really low.
  11. Consistent 25 goal scorer? Unless I'm having trouble reading (I just woke up 5 minutes ago, so this is very possible), he's hit that mark once. Also seems to be good for missing 10-15 every year. That said, I'd welcome him with open arms on a reasonable contract. He's a nice player for the middle-six.
  12. I'd be both surprised and thrilled.
  13. I'd have happily done that Perron deal. I'd have gladly done that, too.
  14. Couturier had a fantastic season, and he's always been great defensively. I don't want to take anything away from either of those things. But he had never hit even 40 points (I know, injuries last two season or he would have) previously. Six seasons below 40 points and 1 above 70. I guess I just need to see him do it again before I'm convinced he's the new Anze Kopitar.
  15. Because I hate the Flyers, rather than a bullet dodged, I like to think of it as the bullet hitting the right target :) Stephen Burtch‏ @SteveBurtch 6m6 minutes agoMore JvR is 29... He will be 34 when his contract expires. Across the past 3 NHL seasons only 19 NHL wingers have played an age 34 season. Only 3 of them scored 20+ goals. Nobody else topped 13. Only 4 of them topped 40+ pts (this includes all of the 20+ goal scorers). 16%!
  16. Just add it to the long line of bad moments for you on this forum :p
  17. What I'm trying to say is that 2 years is pretty big when the players are in the decline portion of their careers.
  18. Not in year 1, but in year 3 when it's 29 v 31, that is a pretty big difference. https://hockey-graphs.com/2017/03/23/a-new-look-at-aging-curves-for-nhl-skaters-part-1/ https://hockey-graphs.com/2017/04/10/a-new-look-at-aging-curves-for-nhl-skaters-part-2/
  19. No, I mean the mere fact that Botterill is okay with dumping a giant contract on a good-but-not-great winger until he's 36 that's the strike. I'm criticizing Botterill for having interest, not for failing to land him.
  20. This is fair. On the other hand, assuming the reports of a hard push are true (I'd trust Mirtle on this one), it's a strike against Botterill whether JVR signs here or not.
  21. Darren Dreger‏Verified account @DarrenDreger 51m51 minutes agoMore Darren Dreger Retweeted Darren Dreger 2 years. $2.775 million per year for Reaves.
  22. Your favorite site! To Corsica you go! FWIW I glanced, and assuming the person was talking about individual xGF/60, JVR was 3rd behind Gallagher and Atkinson. He was also incredibly sheltered.
  23. Now for your next party trick, try ending your sentences with punctuation. :nana:
  24. I mean, he's a good player. It's not like he's trash or anything. But investing heavy money and term into a near-30 winger remains lunacy. Or, he flips ROR for purely picks/prospects and uses that money for JVR. (If this happens, please stab me in an eye). Naturally. But I want everyone here to know I'm ready to jump off the nearest bridge! Yup.
