  1. We have to replace, Roby. It might as well be with this.
  2. I don't think we get that this next year.
  3. Well, the kid from southern Cal didn't see Angola on the lake, did he? He was here in January.
  4. So PA has thought this through? Why are you speaking for him? How do you come to $5 million? You can't imagine a few players removing Buffalo from their NTC list? Perhaps a free agent being okay with taking equal money in Buffalo? These things may have a tipping point. Anyway, why would more money sully the infrastructure?
  5. Scenario A: Players first experience arriving in Buffalo in the dead of winter and travels between airport and FNC and stays in a hotel in a ghost town. "This place sucks!" Scenario B: 120 players arrive in May/June in nice weather and are shown top notch facilities, stay for 5 days and gave a great experience of the facility and city. Over ten years, that is 1200 players and 6000 days of free advertising. "Buffalo isn't so bad! Sure beats, Saskatoon!" Call me crazy, but scenario B is better. A is what happens now. Also having player agents come to Buffalo: A) Coming to the Sabres for credentials 4 weeks before free agency opens Or B) Going to some other team, 4 weeks before free agency opens. how can A not be better? Sure you can second guess every improvement in the short term (especially ones that involve the GM's job of overhauling the roster). But this is a long term endeavor - and these moves might help the organization 10 years after the current owner is gone. Just maybe. Long view.
  6. The same one you were just deriding? Wilco Tango Foxtrot? Are you just contrarian for sport? Incapable of conversation? What the hell?
  7. nah. i'm done. if you can't see any advantage to having nearly every player, agent, and scout in the league come and spend 5 days in Buffalo every summer, what is there to say?
  8. Absolutely. Anschutz is famous for being reclusive, but for also asking his GM's a million questions. That doesn't mean he stands in the way, it just means he wants to be informed about what's happening.
  9. Excuse me, Suck, don't want to be here, hate, so on - so you didn't say hell exactly, but it sorta read that way. It is hard to point at anything good around here without ending up sounding like A cheerleader. I want things like this for BuffAlo - but maybe it will be a turd. Fine, then. This has the potential to be a greesy, corn-filled turd. There.
  10. I have no idea what goes on in Indy, but bringing in 17-18 year olds is a very different prospect than bringing in 22-23 year old college seniors. but you really think it would be 5 days of Hell in Buffalo, huh? I think Buffalo could deliver a top notch professional experience. Most of the kids enjoy the combine as it is, believe it or not.
  11. Man, you are depressing. I think most people would be proud to show off the city during a great time of year. I like to think Buffalo could hit a home run with this.
  12. He's an ideal #3. A guy that can log big minutes if he has to, and stretch the ice creating match-up problems. As a #2 - he's not that useful. I think Erhoff has plenty of value. I'm fine if he sticks around too. I just think he might be worth more somewhere else.
  13. We'll just wait and see who Terry picks on draft day, son. Maybe he'll get lucky.
  14. As the Keeper of the Grand Narrative - I expect we'll be hearing about this at every opportunity. Not a little over the top, is it?
  15. I know nothing of the Colts. But I think the NFL is so different these days. Very few NFL players choose to root down and make Buffalo a long term home these days. Reuben did.....not sure I can name many others. I think Pegula has kept his promise to improve everything outside of the roster: buying the Amerks, hiring more scouting, Harbor Center, yes, the locker room too. I see it as Malcolm Gladwell's tipping point. Continue to do the things that might make Buffalo the right environment, a hockey destination, and maybe, just maybe, things will reach a critical mass and lead to success, and hopefully sustained success. Not buying it? Well that's fine. But I don't think the guy is sparing expense trying. The only free agent you might need is one. But creating an infrastructure that can support the team in any number of ways sounds like good practice to me. I think Pegula has the right GM in Murray, and this will be Murray's roster in a year's time, with Murray's moves, and Murray's trades, and Murray's free agents.
  16. Those bastards. I think that he's can still sign an RFA offer sheet though. That means there is a very good chance he will.
  17. So PA no likey Harbor Center? Weird that someone with your imagination can't see how this can't better the position the hockey side of the organization. I can think of 4 ways off the top of my head. 1. Combine hosting - (for the DRAFT) 2. thereby exposing an entire generation of free agents to Buffalo as a destination 3. Training facility/ D-camp facility 4. Video and analytic center. You can't see any symbiosis here? Really? You can't?
  18. I'm not sure where the expectation that an owner exercise no oversight role in what he owns comes from, but it is an unrealistic expectation. When has Pegula ever said he's not going to watch over his investment? Involved ownership is a good thing. The GM makes every decision with the owner's permission and budget perimeters. Is it really that hard to understand?
  19. So he's the boss from WKRP?
  20. Lots of empties for Mexico-Camaroon....but it was pouring rain.
  21. the logic is airtight once you accept these premises: Tim Murray works as Terry Pegula's agent. All franchise decisions (hockey or otherwise) happen with the Pegula's tacit approval (whether he is paying attention or not). Oversight of the GM comes from the owner (who is taking all the financial risk, BTW). The GM will at times lobby the owner to get the budgetary and structural resources he needs to run a successful operation. The GM is the hired expert. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________- Now onto buying out Leino: Though this decision is a no-brainer. It is still a $7.5 million decision that will get kicked upstairs. Goes something like this: Murray: "Terry, it is time to cut our losses with Leino. I'm advising that we use the buyout window tomorrow." Pegula: "Expensive mistake, wasn't it? Have we looked at every alternative? How does this get paid off? What are the cap implications? Hmmm...... You don't say?" Murray: "I've had Jakubowki write a report on all the implications. He's done a thorough job with it. It's on your desk." Pegula: "Thanks for the call, Tim. By all means, cut the check if you think that's the best route." Murray: We are having our final draft board meeting next week if you'd like to sit in on it. Pegula: I'd love to, Tim. But Kim and I are going to be at a WCT event next week. We'll have to catch up after that. Murray: Sounds good, Terry. I'll give you a call after we complete our draft board. Pegula: Okay Tim, looking forward to that.
  22. We'll done fellas!
  23. sThe only reason this would be an issue is if the owner says no. Tim Murray when he took the job said the advice he got from every gm when he took the job was to communicate with the owner. It is hard for me to imagine that every GM wouldn't do the same thing. What GM would not account for 7plus million dollars? Even if only a professional courtesy? With your expectations I don't think any owner would be living up to standard.
  24. Those were nice pets. so easy to care for. Never shed.
