  1. What is it that Grönborg would need to learn? How to coach like the other NHL coaches?
  2. That’s funny you say that. I started playing this when I laid down last night, and fell asleep prolly 5 minutes in...and I’m one of those people with problems falling asleep!
  3. “To me, the only challenge that would be left is the National Hockey League, to be perfectly honest,” said Grönborg. “I’ve kind of done all that stuff and coached some of the best players in the world. Now I’m interested to have my ideas, to [implement] them over a period of time and do them overseas, and kind of challenging the coaching community over in the NHL.” “When it comes to North American coaching, generally speaking, a coach comes to coach vs. just being a trainer, as we call it in Sweden [coach is translated as tränare in Swedish]. Go out and train the team,” said Grönborg. “Here it’s actually a coach and kind of plan how we utilize the players and give them job descriptions and whatnot. There’s different tweaks in the game situations instead of just kind of rotating four lines, which was very common back in Sweden.” “You’d rotate four lines until there was 10 minutes left and then go down to three lines and then you go down to two lines the last two minutes. …In Sweden, it was very common to have four very even lines.” He is a huge proponent of developing players and has seen success at a national level. A large part of the strength of the U-18, I-20 and National team for Sweden comes from Grönborg. He has helped develop a large number of NHL talents. They have won back to back golds at the world championship under Grönborg. Their U20 team has won two silver medals under him in three years and the U18 also won two silver medals in three years under Grönborg. Grönborg could bring something new and potentially gamebreaking to the Sabres and the NHL.
  4. I’m not going to attempt to win anyone over on going with him, it’s just my personal preference. I’m not interested in NHL coaching retreads (Vignault, Boudreau, Tortorella, etc etc), AHL coaches with no NHL coaching experience (Taylor, Keefe), blasts from the past (Nolan, Ruff), or ex-Sabres (Boughner). It just seems time to think outside the box, which Grönborg fits. It’s not a matter of if he will become an NHL HC, but when. Teams were already kicking the tires prior to this season when there was a million HC openings, including the Sabres trying to bring him in on some capacity. His contract with Sweden is just ending.
  5. Rikard Grönborg.
  6. I actually think I’d prolly trust the decision with Sabre Tooth.
  7. Who’s making the ultimate decision on this? Terry? Botts? Kim? Ted Black? LaFontaine? Beane? That guy we used to talk about with the mafia-sounding name?
  8. Not as many as Michael Jackson.
  9. Ah, yes. The face you’re making realizing drafting lets says 6th in hopes that one player can immediately fix our middle six needs doesn’t equate to what we could get trading Hughes/top pick would fetch for middle six help. ?
  10. This is what I agree with. From the available information, it seems JBott had limited time and trade partner options, and got the best deal that he could at that moment. There was no way he could foresee what would happen with Berglund, but at least he gave us cap space walking away. We still don’t know what Tage will be end up becoming. I believe the trade for Montour saved face. ROR didn’t appear to want to be here, similar to his situation with the Avs. The Avs, like us, had a lot of young players on the roster, that didn’t need to be permeated with his sour attitude. I’m glad for him that he sour-pussed his way into a situation that is ideal for him. It appears JBott did the best that he could to get the best return that he could, given the restrictions. If ROR was a locker room problem, better to have him away from players like Mitts and Dahlin.
  11. And how much middle-six talent could trading Hughes have brought in?
  12. Fishbone Codd would’ve been better.
  13. It’s going to be another long, painful offseason on this board.
  14. Is it true that the Eichel bobble heads they are giving out have him shooting from the wrong hand?
  15. Again with the trend of opponents scoring in the first minute and last minute of periods. Who is to blame?
  16. Dude, relax.
  17. What moves did HCPH do tonight to overcome them going down in the game early? Were the lines juggled? Was there any timeouts? Were there any goalie changes? I didn’t watch, so I’d like to know what he did.
  18. I think he did good getting Skinner for Pu, and a known commodity in Montour for an unknown commodity.
  19. Congrats to Olofsson.
  20. We have won zero Cups since entering the league. What were you expecting this season?
  21. Knew I could come onto the board after watching this game and see everyone having an absolute mental meltdown.
  22. Considering Orr had 41 in 61, no. Orr 41/61 = .67 points per game. Dahlin 39/73 = .53 points per game.
  23. No. Tage was ahead of Nylander in camp, and still is development-wise. Nylander isn’t going to amount to anything, despite our hopes of the possible shiny diamond becoming a shiny diamond. He’s best used as trade bait for something useful, and hopefully for him it jolts him into relevance elsewhere.
