NHL Network's Top 20 Defensemen (Dahlin on the list)
Crusader1969 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Just a reminder that Dahlin will be the only player on this list who will be under 24 at the start on next season. Hughes and Heiskanen will be 24 this coming season and everyone else will be over 25 the average age on the list is 29 and a half Ill admit that this has a flair of homeri but I think that going into the 25-26 season , he will be cemented in the #1 slot that will last for a 5 to 7 year period -
https://x.com/tblightning/status/1693978537953276221?s=46&t=6n2ONBbhmYwnQesFyKn49g Hagel gets paid. We can argue all day long if the tank worked or not but one thing we can, hopefully, agree on is that during those years the Sabres sucked at prospect development. How they didn’t even see a guy worth a few years in the AHL is beyond me

Aug 22 and there are now Days until the season Brian Campbell played 8 years for the Sabres appearing 391 games scoring 32 and adding 144 assists Nikita Zadorov (a personal fav of mine) wore 51 for his one season as a Sabres in the 14-15 season
-
today is Aug 21 and there are Days until the Sabres season Craig Rivet, played 165 games with the Sabres. He was traded to them during the 08-09 season and was waived in 2011. He would be the 26th player named captain of the Sabres.

Skipped 55. The day after RJ died. Just didn’t feel right posting about anything but him

Sabres Trade Ilya Lyubushkin to Anaheim for a 2025 4th Round Pick
Crusader1969 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I’m still believing that another move is coming…. until Hanifan is traded from the Flames , I’m holding onto hope -
As of Aug 19th, there are Days until the Sabres season starts Drafted in the first round in 2009, the 6’3 210 winger was to be the power forward that Sabres fans salivate for. he played 27 games for the Sabres in 2011-12 before being traded to the Canucks for Cody Hodgson.

This year is for RJ. I have a good feeling it’s going to be a special year

Hard to gauge his offensive upside. I think we will get a good idea of it this coming season as he earns more minutes on CSKA. Pretty sure we we looking at a mid 6 winner with 15-20 goal potential. However , I think he will have a big impact on the success of the club. He’s just a guy you want on your side in the playoffs, when space on the ice disappear and guys like Mitch Marner do their Houdini impersonation. That being said , he has skill and can score. In his draft season he had 52 points in 61 MHL games, which while isn’t great, it’s also not terrible. In the corners and in the proverbial “dirty areas” is where he will shine. As Fairburn notes, he is just different than the other 1st & 2nd round prospects in the Stable

Glad to see Poltapov higher than on most lists but still too low to me. I’m going to put him at 6 ahead of Rosen

100%. They had guys with talent and they all flopped. I think Sabres staff at that time are mainly but not completely to blame

As of Aug 17 there are now only days until the season Justin Bailey was a guy that I thought would have a good NHL career. I remember going to watch him play in Kitchener for the Rangers and thinking he was going to be a player. Size, speed and a heavy shot but unfortunately for him he was drafted during a period where almost all Sabres prospects failed. He wore 56 for his first 2 seasons with the club, switching to 95 his 3rd and final year with the Sabres He remains an AHL / NHL tweener with the Oilers
-
A few guys doubled up their number when they were traded and their number wasn’t available. Esposito is an example. He wore 7 as a Bruin and when he was traded to the Rangers he wore 77 then Gretzky was 99 when he came into the league
-
Yes not one player for the 70s yet. I wonder if the Sabres had a team rule regarding numbers ?
-
As of Aug 16th there are Days until the Sabres season i just had to use the Image of Steve Heinz and his “Heinz 57” jersey. Heinz was a deadline day pickup for the Sabres and played 14 regular season games for them in 00-01 putting up 12 points Tyler Myers and current Sabres Brett Murray are the only other players to wear 57 for the Sabres
-
As of Aug 15 there are now only More days until the season john Gilmore (pictured above) wore this number in 4 games for the Sabres in the 19/20 season Tim Kennedy wore it for his 1 game in 08/09 before switching to 13 the following season Paul Szczechura (Who?) wore it for his 9 games as a Sabres in 11/12. #59 was Tim Schaller who played parts of 2 seasons with the Sabres 14/15 and 15/16
-
Only player to wear 59. Played part of two seasons for the Sabres Anyone know who this is? Guys who follow AHL closely may have an idea
-
Yep I looked to and couldn’t find any pics either but it’s true he did wear 60
-
Am I the only one who still thinks a trade is coming ?
-
We know
-
As of Aug 11 there are now Days until the Sabres season Afinogenov played 9 seasons for the Sabres 569GP 134G 200A
-
The list isn’t ranked, so he is just 1 of the 5 listed but regardless he’s opening eyes across the hockey universe
-
markstrom and Hanifan are a combined $11 million and olofsson and Jokiharju $7.25million trade works fine If you are concerned Calgary retains $1 million of the Markstrom contract
-
Divide the 23 man roster any way you want. Since we know these forwards are guaranteed a spot, let’s exclude them Tage, Cozens, Skinner, Tuch, Okposo and Girgensons. And we know 5 dmen who are 100% here. dahlin, Power, Samuelson, Johnson and Clifton therefore you have 6F and 5D written in Stone. Who are the remaining 12? Here is my Guess JJP, Kulich, Mitts, Krebs, Greenway, Savoie fill out the 5 remaining opening night starting roster Rousek and Jost are in the press box Hanifan is the 6th dman and Lybushkin is the 7th Goalies are Markstrom and Levi is the goalie tandem Joker, Olofsson, UPL are 3 parts of the trade with Calgary that will also include the Sabres sending the flames a prospect and draft picks
