Not that I have any faith in the league being able to pull this off, but I think the NHL is sitting on a golden opportunity to shake up the "broadcasting norms" for sports and they should look into delivering their games via legitimate streams and dump NBCSN or whatever they have that shows 1 or 2 games a night. Want to grow your product? Make it easily available. Let people watch out of market games, implement a plan to end the insane blackout restrictions. Yes, I know they have NHLtv or whatever, but that product is crap. I refuse to pay for a subscription to a sports league that doesn't allow me to watch playoffs. What's the point? There is so much money to be made on targeted online revenue. Imagine how many people you can reach if they'd embrace the future and open up access. There's no way this will ever happen because the league is run by dinosaurs.

This past Saturday NorthBuffalo and I decided to have our own SabresSpace meetup in NYC. He came down to play on my Saturday beer-league team. It was a fun game but we ended up losing 5-3 after an empty netter sealed our fate. Bonus points for NB rocking the Goat. Gotta love the power of the internet!

This post is about 2 months late but it's Friday afternoon and I've got the time to post it now. I started playing ice hockey about 2.5 years ago, and the past 3 memorial day weekends I've participated in the NYCGHA's "Chelsea Challenge" hockey tournament. This past event they asked me to captain one of the teams in the lower division. I'd never captained anything sports related before and I was a bit apprehensive but went along with it. My team ended up winning the tournament and it was a blast. Afterwards I was thinking about it and I realized I'd never been part of a winning sports team, be it playing for or rooting for. 30 some years and not one championship celebrated until then. To be fair, I didn't really play sports in high school but still, that's a lot of losing over the years. I really can't wait for the Sabres or Bills to make it all the way. The energy in the city is going to be something else.

Netflix has all the series. The past....5 years or so I've been falling asleep to Star Trek every night. I rotate through each series. I'm probably on my 4th re-watch of them all at this point.

Exactly. There's definitely some locker room politics in play with the decision. Does he 100% deserve it this season? Of course not. But in time he will so you let him grow into the position. I also think it will push Jack to be even better. I think spiderman once said, "With great responsibilities come great snipes" or something. Maybe it was his uncle.

There's no one formula for naming the captain, every team is going to do it differently. Not every team has a McDavid, Crosby or Eichel or Matthews on it where you bestow the captaincy on a young star before he's "ready" but it's the right choice because you know damn well he's going to be the face of franchise for the next decade +. We are lucky enough have suffered enough to be a team that has elite talent and the captaincy is going to go to Jack.

I watched the Kane video during lunch today and my biggest impression was how beautiful some of those Eichel/Reinhart/ROR feeds were.

I can't believe there's so much debate about this. Eichel is the face of the franchise. This is his team and he will be named the captain. If I am wrong I will eat a sandwich. ROR will have an A and I'm guessing a veteran with a fair amount of playoff experience will have the other A, which in my mind is Pominsteen.

This post ignores the fact that WPG swapped Bogo for an equally outrageous Tyler Myers contract. Nobody won on the defensive aspect of that trade.

I don't think it's wise to rush or delay development for the sake of the cap. If the players are ready, let them play and deal with the contracts as they come up. If not, keep them marinating in the minors.

In a hypothetical world, let's imagine Moulson and or Gorges get easily out-performed at camp, and get demoted, clear waivers and are assigned to Rochester. In this scenario, they come in with a " this " attitude and head coach Christ Taylor says "I don't want these jerks on my team, cancering up my locker-room". Can they be demoted further, to the ECHL? Has that ever happened or if you're playing on a one-way contract is the AHL the lowest they can go?

While I don't think he'll jump ship this just continues to make the O Reilly trade look even better.

By my count only 3 players have worn 77 in Sabres history: Kulikov, Gratton, and Pierre Turgeon. Hopefully MIddlestat is most like Turgeon. Yes I realize development camp numbers mean nothing but, hey, it's the off-season.

I expect to see growth in all aspects of his game, same with Eichel. They're still so young and each year they're only going to fill out their bodies and have more experience playing at the highest level. If he stays healthy he'll put up 60+ points. I'm hoping HCPH abadons HCDDBs insane philosophy of having "line-pairs" and finds out who works well with who and lets them develop chemistry.

Jack is going to be pushing 45 goals and more assists. He's going nowhere but up.
