  1. 4 million is a little high but i would most likely do that especially if this keeps up into the playoffs but that is pretty high. If its closer to five million i probably turn it down, this is a kid that has not played center for very long and he looks great right now i would just like a larger sample size before im paying him top 20 center money.

Tyler Ennis is not going to get a 5million dollar offer sheet from anyone. If he got 4 I would be stunned. Actually if he gets an offer sheet at all I would be stunned. Tyler Ennis will be signed prior to July 1

  2. I guess 2 questions you need to ask yourself are: How close are you to being done? and Do you have to finish it for your career?

I can totally sympathize with the struggles though. I find that those who haven't gone through graduate school simply don't understand what it entails and it's really hard to talk to anybody who hasn't gone through it. Even if you enjoy what you're doing (and I do), there's just a lot of times where it just isn't enjoyable. Even during Sabres games I think to myself "man I should really be doing some work right now". Big props to your girlfriend for dealing with you though, it's certainly not easy to do--among other things, one of the contributing factors to me and my girlfriend of 4 years breaking up was the pursuit of my degree.

    B.S. = Bullsh!t

    M.S. = More Sh!t

PhD = Piled higher and deeper

also I totally sympathize with that last sentiment... sorry man. :(

  3. I wouldn't trade Ennis for a 1st and a 3rd unless the picks were in the top 5 of the respective rounds.

Thank you. At least someone sees Ennis for what he is. This is his sophmore year and despite injury if you run is ppga against his rookie year its up. Ennis is better this year than he was last year. A lot of that has to do with him having more room and puck control at center. I wouldn't trade him unless its for a top 5 first rounder and a top 5 2nd personally but if a 4mil offer sheet for 4 years hits the table, I match and sign him. Tyler Ennis and his linemates have something like 38pts in the last 9games.

  4. Gerbe and Ennis

so because Ennis accidentally slid foot first into the goal post he is more injury prone? And Gerbe getting blasted face first into the boards makes him more injury prone? I can't agree. If the injuries were things like shoulder injuries or even something along the lines of getting banged up I would be with you. but considering Ennis has had 1 injury, not really sure that counts. I mean Tyler Myers got injured so maybe really big guys get injured too? Roy has been healthy every year minus last season. Injuries are sometimes chronic (TIM CONNOLLY) but in all honesty its usually just an unlucky play here or there.

  5. Well at the end of April I will no matter what happens move out of Buffalo... for good. Either it will be home, NJ, or where I get a job but my tenure in the "All America" city has reached its inevitable end... I have to say 365 days ago I thought my life would be a lot different right now.

  6. If the plan is going to be to roll 3 more or less equal lines, there have to be some cheap players in the mix. Tropp doesn't need the puck and is doing the dirty work reasonably well. Meanwhile, Hodgy and Vanek look like they are developing some chemistry.

If Brown is obtainable -- great. I won't say no. But let's not lose sight of the fact that for the first time in half a season Vanek looks like a weapon again.

None of the guys mentioned including McNabb have shown they are ready to be top 6 blueliners in the NHL come 12-13(the closest may be Brennan). In addition, unless Sulzer's agent loses his mind, he should come reasonably priced @ 1mil per season.

Just a quick note on the state of our Salary Cap since we are discussing it. We are projected to have 19 players signed and 5.78mil in space. Now the good news is that Ennis, Kaleta, and Sulzer probably would not cost a lot to resign. Also i would assume the cap goes up about 2-3mil. In theory we could trade a prospect and a 1st rnd pick for a player who is in the 3million range if we wanted to bring in someone. Carry on.

  7. the stuff in the article and upthread about hodgson being a bit big for his britches is fine by me, provided he's the sort of guy who is committed to achieving/playing a game that matches his elevated self-conception of himself.

and i think that is who hodgson is -- the video that chz posted about how he works out with gary roberts' "biosteel" camp gives me that sense. the guy thinks that he is/can be the best player on the ice at any given time, and appears prepared to work hard enough to make that happen.

I thought I heard that Daniel Catenacci does that camp too? Can anyone confirm this?

  8. If Sulzer holds his current level of play, then Buffalo is the clear winner of this trade.

Great read and I love reading comments from Canucks fans "We also added a good young defender". No you added one of the Sabres worst defenders who is softer than a pool full of feathers. As for Hodgson, I like the fact he thinks hard work is the only way he can succeed and the fact he wants to do more. This team has lacked leadership and Hodgson seems to have some of that. Its going to take some time but it appears right now that we have won this trade.

  9. Still waiting for Hodgson to show me something...anything...other than being a minus every game. Hearing the Canucks fans talk after the trade, I thought we were getting a real star in the making. Turns out we traded raw prospect for raw prospect. Truthfully the trade looks bad for both players so far. I thought Kassian looked pretty good in his role in Buffalo and Hodgson was clearly more comfortable in Vancouver than he is here so far.

    In tonight's games:

    CoHo - 23shifts 16:21TOI

    Kassian - 13shifts 09:50TOI

Hodgson has more potential and will have more oppurtunities to play with top end talent than Kassian will because Hodgson is simply better. He seems to be assisting Vanek's production over the last week and that is a great thing.

This is definitely a possibility, but Lindy is giving them their fair chance to keep the production up. The #1 powerplay unit was Roy Hodgson Vanek Pominville and Ehrhoff... their second unit was the Ennis line. They are awesome right now, and the fact that Stafford and a rookie are putting up points with Ennis gives us tremendous depth.. Vanek has been colder than ever but you know what he's capable of, and if Hodgson gets hot and we get that line producing more... it's like a completely different team. Hoow do we suddenly find ourselves with center "depth" ? Roy is an awesome asset to have as a "third" line center. Depending on how you look at the lines. IMO there's only one line that isn't a #1/2 line and that's the 4th line obviously.

ask you shall receive... Vanek and CoHo are starting to develop a little chemistry, lets hope that trend continues.

For those keeping score at home:

    Hodgson - 3g 3a in 14gp

    Kassian - 1g 1a in 12gp

  10. The best thing that could happen for Hodgson would be for the Sabres to miss the playoffs and he gets sent down to the Amerks for the playoffs. He can use all the games he can get in the Sabres system right now.

Cody Hodgson is not eligible to play for the Amerks in the playoffs. The best thing that can happen for Cody is that he continues to learn and improve.

  11. I actually found this out last thursday the second I got back from having my teeth out but I felt terrible and didn't post... The Job that I was trying to get was given to someone else which pisses me off because I was lobbying for it for an entire month and this person IMHO is less qualified, but ###### me sideways and call me a bitch because thats what the Universe has been doing lately...

    /endrant

  12. Who reads in bed?

    single ppl!

    anyways,

"Those Who Hunt the Night" and "Travelling with the Dead" by Barbara Hambly

Both are set at the turn of the last century and are about a retired british agent (not like james bond) turned professor who finds himself employed by a Vampire... its actually a bit of mystery novel and no there is no sparkling vamps or teenage angst.

  13. Than you must have noticed MAG more that Hodgson, because Kassian was more noticeable than Hodgson. Except for the one semi-break away that Hamhuis broke-up, Hodgson wasn't much of a factor.

I am going to disagree. Hodgson may not have been much of an offensive factor but he broke up numerous plays in our end that lead to breakouts from our zone. His positioning and ability to read the play is amazing.

  14. Its kinda interesting that with Hodgson completely anchoring the 2nd line down the middle, stafford and ennis are getting more chances to break out. Also of interest is that with Goose gone, Leino seems to have found some chemistry with gerbe and kaleta but 2 goals in 1 night does not a line make so that i will watch with much anticipation.

The thing about Hodgson is he has generated a number of chances (unlike the Roy line) in the last 2 games and I think with some practice and maybe a day of rest that Ennis and Stafford can gel with him more. I noticed some of Hods stick handling and shooting more last night so he does have the talent, I think its just going to take some time for him to get comfortable.

As for Kassian, he played well last night but outside the Myers hit and the goal, I noticed MAG more than him... However i will say Sulzer looked very serviceable on the d-line last night and was not a liability. I would argue the jury is still out on who this trade and will be for a bit.

  15. THANK YOU!!!

That's the point...if you are going to blow your wad...don't do it on a 185lb skill guy with potential.....get in the leader this team has been lacking for 5 years.

    THANK YOU!!!!

Well here's the thing, we didn't blow our wad on a player in his mid 30's, who has 1 year left on his contract, would have required a secondary trade to get the cap space for him, and has a NMC... and there has been no actual report from Calgary indicating Iginla has been available or that he would like to be moved.

Hodgson seems to be a leader, is 12 years younger, and plays a position we need. Kassian for Hodgson is a good trade.

  16. You may be right.

I've been waiting 5 years for that easy solution.

Please tell me where I am "pissed"?

It isn't about Zack Kassian, a hockey player.

It is about the pure avoidance of any players that combine both skill and grit. You haven't had it, you haven't tried to get it, and this is more of the same.

Last year I was pounding the table to sell off Connolly, Montador and Stafford for picks, then using a combo of picks and prospects to get 2 real leaders in here. I wasn't opposed to trading Kassian, or whoever was in the pipeline in order to get someone in NOW. We are going into the 2nd year of this, and the leadership column is even weaker than where we were at last year...and you sold off your biggest piece to take a crack at Derek Roy +2"

Darcy just used his call a friend lifeline on the $10,000 question.

From what I have seen and read I completely and emphatically disagree with this. Derek Roy is 5'9" 185lbs and is going on 29yrs old. We know who he is after watching 7 years of his development.

Cody Hodgson is 6' and 190lbs and we have seen 2 games and only have 1 week of watching his development. In that 1 week his on ice behavior has been completely and unquestionably different than Derek Roy's during that same period of time. Roy is easy to move off the puck and he likes to carry it all over hell and back. Hodgson ever aware of where he is makes crisp passes than immediately moves to get open for the next pass. They do not play the same style of game.

You imply that Hodgson is soft. In what way? He backchecks and goes to the front of the net, works in the corners, does not seem afraid to take a hit to make a play, and always covering his guy not just with his stick but also with his body. We traded an underachieving winger (which should please you) for a player who is much more complete. Milan Lucic is not considered a very good player because he can simply hit people, but because he is a complete all around player that hits ppl. if Hodgson played wing i may agree with you but he is a natural center and a complete natural center who does not run over everyone is more important than a "potentially" lucic like winger.

Final thought is that if Vancouver, whom NO one has said has a leadership problem, has fans talking about this kid as though he could captain the team that says twice as much as your own conjecture. Kassian never once showed an ounce of leadership and I have seen Hodgson show a great deal in two games. It has even been discussed.

5 years from now we may criticize Darcy for this trade but I will tell you what, its better than 5 years from now listening to ppl bitch and moan that we should have traded kassian when his potential value was at its peak.

  17. I don't think you follow events close enough.

Rob Ray a Sabres employee said they were shopping him. Were they? Or was it typical Sabres massaging to make it look good after the fact? I don't know.

Kassian......I don't know what he will be, but we sure as hell haven't had anything of what he could be. We've had plenty of Hodgson types.....daddy not included

and if you watched his fights in the NHL so far....I think your last bit has been disproven

Name the last center prospect of his caliber we had? I agree this team needs grit but to say that Kassian is going to be something we have never had but Hodgson is just another soft player, is short sighted and a clearly slighted of view of him as a player. Hodgson may not hit a lot but he protects the puck well and has great vision. Kassian IMHO had horrendous on ice awareness but protected the puck well and could hit stuff. Its 6 to 1 and half a dozen to the other. To be truthful I hope Hodgson in 3 years is 10x the player Kassian is.

Want to know the really ironic part of your argument? You hate the fact we always talk about potential that never comes to fruition, like Stafford, but then you argue against trading Kassian because of his potential... We got a more complete hockey player in Hodgson, that is obvious... so we sold potential for something more solid and your still pissed... around and around we go, where we stop nobody knows...

  18. My thinking was back in December, the season could have been saved. My plan was to trade for Iginla and make a push for Doan and Stoll in FA, or even try and get them in here early.....and boom....you have a true contender.

Even with what could be deemed the biggest trade of the deadline, you waited 3 months, 90% chance lost this season, and really didn't move back or forward. The picks are nice for Gaustad, but you still have the same core in place.

nothing stopping them from going after Doan in FA still, but I don't know what is here to lure a lifelong guy out of his situation if Phoenix comes anywhere close.

I would rather have 22yr old Cody Hodgson now, than soon to be 35 yr Old Iginla then... I agree that the same core is basically in place but a new core is starting to make waves. Ennis, Gerbe, Myers, Weber, Hodgson even are all young guys coming in and any claim that this current core will "hurt" them I think is unfounded by the way they have played thus far. This team is finding its identity and if anything Hodgson brings at the very least a new way of looking at the game because no matter what Ruff's system is, a player who has learned to keep his head on a swivel and be alert will always possess those skills.

  19. Don't worry, our favorite mod is safe. All four are being surgically extracted so I am being put completely under. Thanks for all the advice and I doubt I will feel good enough to watch hockey tonight but LETS GO BUFFALO!
