  1. With 8-9" of snow in a city like Athens, GA I can definitely understand it causing some major problems. They don't have the equipment and infrastructure to properly deal with a weather event like that.

It's the panic driven nonsense that can be avoided. About 7 or 8 years ago here in Raleigh they were calling for some snow, maybe an inch or two. So naturally everyone panicked and headed for home at around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. And I mean nearly everyone, and all at roughly the same time. What ensued was a traffic nightmare for the ages. All because of what ultimately amounted to under an inch of snowfall and people panicking. You see with the traffic jams all around and a little bit of snow falling on untreated roadways, that snow turned to ice very quickly with idling cars sitting still. People sat in their cars four hours, overnight in some cases, a lot of children never made it home from school on the bus that night and ended up staying in shelters. People I work with who left in the initial panic and got about a mile down the road in three hours, ended up coming back and sleeping at their desks. They told me that I was crazy when I headed out the door for home at 4:30, but I took the back roads, drove at a prudent speed and wouldn't you know it I actually made it home in an hour and a half.

So now, because of that event there is still plenty of pancic, but when snow is forecasted they just shut everything down before it even gets here. Idiots.

Yup thats the issue, they don't do anything to the roads and ppl cant drive. I drove through the front that came through last week and flooded I75 and parts of I285. Was it bad yes. But I slowed down put on my flashers and maintained speed. When I hydroplaned I let off the gas.

It just ammuses me every time we may have been weather my co workers ask me all these stupid questions. My favorite was when they said they lost power once for 2 whole days and they wondered if I was prepared for such an event... I was like let me tell you about the Thunderpocalypse or the October Storm that we had in Buffalo. 5 days no power and we were fine.

WHich brings me to my complaint. THe asshats in washington barely have signed or distributed any aid for ppl effected by Hurricane Sandy and one of the major opponents is a guy who is the congressman of Miss. Palazzo who was begging to get money for Katrina this past summer. Stewart perfectly framed what I believe 90% of this country is thinking.

  2. The level of panic you see in NY can't come close to what happens here. I'm a little used to it now after being here for 10 years, but people truly go insane at just the hint of some bad winter weather heading our way.

    OMG RIGHT!

We had 40% chance of freezing rain and they talked about closing campus. Co-workers discussed going to the store and getting 1 weeks worth of groceries and water. It is absolutely hilarious. They kept saying Beer, Eggs, Bread, and Milk you wont be able to get. I was like really people? really?

God forbid we get snow, they call 8" a snowpocalypse...

  3. I've never tried it. Though I do love their Hopsecutioner.

Not a big fan but I don't like very hoppie beers. Its great when the weathers nicer being able to go out to Terrapin and try all their beers like Golden Ale and Liquid Bliss.

If you ever get a chance to pop the cork on a bottle of Unibroue "Terrible", do it. Unibroue makes some great winter beers beyond La Fin du Monde.

I will have to try it, the local bottle shop has a great selection so I shall check with them, thxs! What is the flavor like?

  4. 2 goals aside I don't think Sulzer has been all that good lately.

I'd start Scott on defense over Leopold right now let alone Sulzer.

I really loved the talk about how good MIke Weber is. I keep saying that and have been saying that for over a year. Kid has heart and he was 2nd rounder, he isnt some lucky late pick but a guy who had a good ceiling and is playing up to or above it. His simple game is getting it done and his no holds barred physicality is great.

Here is a question: Ever see Miler get hit/bumped/run with Mike Weber on the ice... NO because Weber would immediately drop gloves and win or lose he would fight anyone. Look what he did after the gerbe hit. If we had a couple more MIke Webers this team would be a lot better.

  5. If you want to see this team rebuild it would look something like this:

Miller, Vanek or Pommers, Regehr, Ellis, McCormick, Hecht, Leopold, Ehrhoff or Myers, Leino, stafford, Sulzer, Ruff and all the coaches, and most likely your GM. You trade, don't sign and get rid of everyone over the age of 26 basically (a couple of exceptions) and then you tank for 1-3 years or luck out and your current prospects pan out. You bring in guys through FA based on need and skill and then you have completely rebuilt your core within 5 years. Thats a real rebuild.

That is what should have happened on July 2, 2007. They should have dismantled and already dismantled team and started stocking up picks with the hopes that Van and Poms could hold out until the new core was brought up. As opposed to the sticking your finger in the hole on your sinking ship every year and trusting that your captain (ruff) and your Navigator (darcy) would get you to dry land (top 6 in conference) before your sink (see the last 5 years).

  6. Anyone calling into the Sylvester show saying Lindy needs to be fired is like someone going up to Ronald McDonald and saying Wendy's is better.

My favorite thing is when he comes back with "all right then tell me who you think should be coach because otherwise you aren't saying anything"

How the hell am I supposed to know about all the coaches who are out there? I mean the players I can at least watch and see some numbers for. Coaches its a little harder. Him being all what coach what coach replaces Lindy? is a major problem with this entire argument. Everyone is charged is basically well we arent sure someone else will do better so we will wait.

  7. Belgium Triple - La Fin Du Monde

My bartender said I should try it and I gotta say it is really good.

Moo Hoo - MIlk Chocolate Stout

Made my the local brewery (Terrapin) I really love this bear and it is a much better draft than bottle but it isn't overally milky or chocolaty, it still tastes like beer.

  8. How do you figure? We needed centers so badly that we gave up our best forward prospect (at the time), a supposed can't miss blue chipper with uncommon size and aggression, to get one. Had we dealt with the center situation even 2 seasons ago we'd have the centers we needed AND we'd have the best power forward prospect this franchise has ever drafted. It all comes back around to losing 2 centers in one day and never replacing the loss.

If you differ, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

You are going to argue based off of 52 games that Zack Kassian is the best power forward prospect ever drafted in 41 years? Yea thats a major stretch and considering what he did here, I completely disagree. Also You assume that if we drafted Centers in say 07-09 we would have Kassian but thats a stretch too because we probably would have reached and good have easily missed on those picks.

Kassian is decent for a young guy but Hogson was needed and is needed by this franchise and Hodgson has shown great improvement in a short amount of time so I have no issue with Kassian being gone.

  9. I've seen dozens of Hodgsonesq players in a Sabres uniform over the years. At the end of the day Hodgson is another soft skilled forward that has plagued this franchise for far too many years. It's not just a Kassian thing, there is reason Marcu Foligno will be a far more popular player in Buffalo than Hodgson, because long suffering Sabre fans are dieing to have big physical skilled forwards in a Sabre uniforms.

and Kassian was not a big physical forward in a Sabres uniform. Also I haven't seen a player like Hodgson on this team since 07. If fans don't "want" his type then I am glad fans don't make the deals.

  10. That must have been the Lindy effect, the same effect that ruined Paul Gaustad. Kassian needs to play a big man's game. As he matures he will realize that a huge portion of NHL forwards would much rather make it through an NHL game with any contact. Kassian should be able to use his size and physical nature to make the Canucks a more difficult team to play against physically and make opposing forwards very uncomfortable on the ice. That will allow Kassian and his line-mates to be more effective.

And Hodgson with his vision, ridiculous hockey IQ, passing skills, and his propensity to find open ice and draw defenders will make his line-mates more effective.

Its not about finding the best players but the right ones.

  11. Taking into account the roles each player is supposed to play it looks like Vancouver is getting more out of Kassian at this point. Kassian 19 hits & 2 fights, Hodgson 0 assists. The goals are gravy for the Canucks at this point.

Do you wanna actually compare the same stats here or just random stuff? Hodgson has 44FO wins but Kassian has more penalty minutes... okay? They both have 0 assists and I have no desire to see Hodgson fight as thats not his role on the team. Hodgson is not Kassian and I like that. Hodgson is smarter and the Sabres could use smarter. Basically the reason I am waisting my time to write this, compare the same stats or all there stats don't just throw out there that Kassian is playing tougher because I would expect him to. The real question for our team was could kassian have played center? You know like Gerbe :flirt:

  12. I'm sick of making the same point and doing the research every year this gets brought up, but Pyatt has flourished as a checking forward who has averaged 15 goals a year since leaving Buffalo.

I just looked at the Numbers:

Goals: 23, 16, 10, 12, 18, 9 since leaving the Sabres. That averages out to 14.66 goals per season. He plays on the 3/4 line for all the teams sense he left. Flourished? He got 10g and 14g when playing here. He also had 8 and 6g on injury shortened seasons.

Your really stretching the number thing. He is a good 3/4 liner but to make it sound as if hes some sort of poor mans Lucic or that LOOK! RUFF RUINED HIM! Is not true.

that all being said if Ruff doesn't get this team to playoffs, fire every single member of the coaching staff.

  13. If Kassian turns out to be significantly better than Hodgson, I'm worried that Regier will never make a gutsy trade again. Trading our top prospect for their top prospect is arguably the riskiest move he's ever made. I want more moves like that in the future.

It's also tough not to wonder what Kassian might be like for us this year with Ott here to lead the way and Foligno around to compete with.

It is risky but this is why I am curious to hear ppls opinions on the matter. We traded away what we considered our top prospect and in return we got Vancouvers, the ripple effect of this trade will be massive and I find it fascinating

  14. first time since I have been single I go on a date... girls really cool, we like a lot of the same stuff, shes got a great sense of humor, shes clever, and she is attractive...

    so whats my complaint?

I find out in the middle she doesn't consider it a date and she really likes being single because of the freedom and isn't looking...

...I realized at this moment I had boarded the bus to friend town where basically they treat your balls like a gun in an old wild west town, you gotta check them at the city limits.

  15. Resurrection!

I'm bringing this thread back up because I made the mistake of reading the comments under the TSN article where Kassian scored the shootout winner. All the Nucks fans are saying how Gillis basically got the better deal and Kassian has size and skills that Hodgson lacks. So why do we care? Well I thought it might be interesting to keep an eye on both players during this shortened season to see if a winner in this deal does start to emerge. I think it is still to early to tell, however (I watched the Vancouver highlights) based off of the first 2 games only I see more from Hodgson style of play than I do from Kassian. Other current thoughts on this trade as we get under way here?

  16. This reminds me of one I ran into recently. When I try to print something double sided here at work, it does work. Only one problem, it prints the entire document within a 1 inch square in the corner of the paper. It doesn't happen every time, but the issue pops up from time to time.

I have one thing to say that will solve both our problems:

not sure why it won't load the video right but let me just say Office Space found the solution to the problem

  17. o for the love of hockey... on Monday the student pc workstations stopped connecting to the printers... so we told Campus IT... they "fixed" the problem tuesday... well they really didn't, so they "fixed" the problem wednesday night... well here I am Thursday morning on the desk and some of the computers print and some of them can't find the F**@#$^&*(#!!!!!!! printer. So now students are pissed, I am pissed, I am trying to do chat reference as well, my student IT guy is pissed an trying to figure out which ones are fixed... IT IS A CLUSTER F*^%!!!!!

  18. So the semester started on Monday and the office is just insane. My email is like grand central station and the College I am liaison too needs a lot of help because no one has helped them or liaised with them in over a year. So basically I am here, there, and everywhere with these people and the real issue is that I got a random request from a subsection of this college and they asked for something that will probably take the entire day if not longer to track down. Basically my complaint is the work overload that started Monday and has yet to let up. On top of that I get to work 3 of the next 4 Sundays... :death:

  19. SEC still sets the standard in the FBS. I wanted Alabama to win but I was expecting a 10 point difference, this was unexpected

I believe my friend worded it best when he said the real title game was played a month ago in Atlanta. SEC is a level above.
